Pleasant stay
I stayed in a one bedroom suite with a fold out sofa bed for my daughter. I was very surprised that the kitchen was fully equipped and I wished we were staying longer to take advantage of it! There was also a washer and dryer in the room. Everyone was very friendly and I really enjoyed how quiet it was. I read in some reviews that AC was extra, but it was included with my package. There was no maid service during my stay (2 nights) which is fine with me-- I think they only come once a week to save costs. If you want something, they will respond, however. I think there are other maid service options if you stay longer. The room was spotless when we got there. I'm very sensitive about smells and nothing like that bothered me there. No shampoo or conditioner is available in the room. This was actually the first time I have stayed at a hotel in Hawaii and didn't have any charges to pay when I got there! EXCEPT-- Internet access was $9.99 a day, and it starts from 3pm for 24 hours (so don't start paying for it at 2pm, because you'll have to pay again at 3pm. Check out was at 10 am, which I thought was very early, but they did let me keep my bags there once I was checked out (in a secure area). They said we could still use the facilities and I did use the pool and locker rooms after we were checked out.

Dining tip:
Short drive from hotel
Most of the restaurants are a drive down the road. The resort is on the edge of Alii drive, but across the road is a shopping center. Unfortunately, I was not very happy with most of the dining choices in Kona. Everything was mostly mediocre on dining. There is a restaurant on the property (Aloha Friday's) but I didn't try it while I was there.

Honeymoon
This resort is the furthest one out on Alii drive, so it is a short drive to everything. The rooms were very beautiful and spacy. We had no troubles at check in nor check out. The only irritant was the light swithes were in awkward locations. If that is the only annoyance then it must be an awesome place. We did not book any activites through the resort, so I cannot rate those. We did not find any beach access from the resort. We had to drive about 5 minutes up the road. There are not many beaches on Kona, though. The beach up the road was perfect for snorkeling. The landscaping was absolutely beautiful. This was a nice place for a home away from home. We stayed at 2 other places during our stay in Hilo and another in Kona as well and the Kona coast resort was by far the best!

Good kitchens, BBQ grills.
Overall, it was a good place with good cooking facilities in the kitchen and BBQ areas. The room was basically clean and not noisy. We had a top floor room, so I can't say what lower floor occupants experience. There's a golf course separating the resort from the ocean, but in the evenings the guests simply walk across the grass (100 yards) to get to the rocky shoreline and observe the sunset. We were pleased with the place. Minor gripes: it would be nice if they had more recycling bins around the resort. Also, they need to update the "manual" that they provide because it doesn't always accurately describe how things work. For example, if you call housekeeping from your room and leave a message with a request, your message may be ignored. But you get a reliable and prompt response if you simply call the front desk instead.

Sightseeing tip:
Short drive from hotel
Drive over to the Sheraton at Keauhou Bay to watch the Manta Rays at night (after about 8pm). You can self park for free and then visit the bar or just hang out and look over the railing to see the Manta Rays which are attracted to the bright lights at the hotel. Also, from the Kona Coast resort itself, one can walk (about 20 mins down Alii Drive) to Kahaluu Bay Beach Park for easy snorkeling at a very popular location.

The good, the bad and the really ugly
This was an average place and the pools were small. It was disappointing that there was no access to the beach right on the property. The timeshare department was overbearing and untruthful. We agreed to stay for a 90 minute presentation which lead to one way longer... when we said we wanted to consider their proposal they were extremely agressive. Do not attend the timeshare presentation. The discounts are NOT worth it. Try to decided what day trips you want ahead of time and book online.. that will be cheaper and less aggravating.

Again, book online prior to the trip if you can decide on what you want to do. You will save time on your trip and money many times if you book online. The Lava tour and snorkling with the dolphins were excellent tours offered.

Excellent Place to Stay in Kona
This resort is highly recommended. This is the second year in a row that we stayed at the Kona Coast Resort. It's also a great price for a one bedroom condo with a full kitchen and two full bathrooms. The staff is very friendly and caters to your needs. We will be going there again next year.

Beautiful and convenient
The rooms were spacious and beautifully decorated. The living areas were large and comfortable. The kitchen - fabulous. Our room overlooked the second pool which was quiet and out of the way. The only negative was having to pay a daily rate for each computer having internet access. We ended up sharing instead of each using our own. The Shopping Center was right across the street and Kailua Kona was just a short 5 minute drive. As an added bonus, there was a Japanese Bon Dance the weekend we were there!

You must use the great kitchen. Buy food and save money by cooking in. You won't regret it. If that's not your thing, several dining choices are close by.
