Uncle Billy's is no Uncle Marriott
I was there on business, and just needed a comfortable bed and working internet. Bed was ok, but didn't look or smell clean. Bathroom was smelly and room was so dirty (dusty, wrappers on the ground, etc.) VPN kept crashing and automatically disconnected every 5 minutes, though regular internet worked, albeit slowly. Internet is free, but parking is not ($5 per night). Free continental breakfast is composed of papaya, mini muffins, and bread/toast. They had leaded and unleaded coffee with the sugary juices. Location is great, but for the money, go down the street to another property.

Short walk from hotel
While there, they closed Ali'i Drive for vendors. I guess every third weekend they let folks roam the street to shop, eat, and enjoy local music. It was relaxing, and at the end of the street, you can go swimming and fishing on the dock. Very picturesque...

Poor quality and unacceptable conditions
"Poor quality and unacceptable conditions" - my exact words when I called [...] to cancel my remaining 3 nights and move to the Royal Kona Resort.1. What they called "partial ocean view" is non-existent. ALL balconies overlook their parking lot and registration office. No view of the ocean.2. Room smells like urine. We went to Walmart to buy an air freshener, but that didn't work.3. Rusted and jammed showerhead. What else is there to say?4. Broken equipment - hair dryer doesn't work, light turns on 5 minutes after switching on, a/c fan is old, loud, and only had high setting.5. Received an instant bug bite on my face when I moved the bed sheets around.Overall, the conditions just killed the mood that you would expect when visiting Hawaii. For an extra $25 per night, we moved to another resort with much better quality rooms.

Great motel not a resort
The place was clean with basic decor, bathroom, bed, fan. The air conditioner was old and noisy but after awhile we got used to it. Decent pools especially the one for little kids: 2.5 feet deep. Parking lot wasn't too far from the room but we couldn't see our car from the room. Breakfast was a decent continental: bagel, english muffins, bite-size danish, fresh papaya, juice, coffee. NOTE: no milk. It would have been great to have milk because I was traveling with my 2 year old but the ABC store wasn't too far down the street. Overall--this is a decent Motel, clean, friendly staff, in town, good location (across the street from a farmer/flee market) about 10min to a beach. If you need just the bare necessity, Kona Bay is for you.

Short walk from hotel
Across the street from Kona Bay Hotel's parking lot, there is a farmer/flee market where you can get good tropical fruits and souvenir crafts. Remember to bargain. Aloha!

hell in paradise
If you can get past the police tape around the cloudy, leaf filled pool and the fleas in the rooms, then this is the place for you. Don't expect to eat or drink because, the bar grill is broken down and boarded up. Location is great but the front desk doesn;'t know much about thew area. This was the last leg of my trip, next time it will be at the Royal Kona Resort down the street, it was much nicer

Great Place
We stayed only one night here before our timeshare week. We were pleasantly surprised. The room was basic, but clean and good size. The location is excellant (better than our timeshare!). I would recommend Uncle Billy's for anyone and would go back myself and would have no problem staying for several days!

Great Stay
Great people and clean room. Booked room on Sunday morning for that evening stay. The reservation office is not open on Sunday so when we arrived the reception desk did not have the reservation from [...]. Showed the receptionist a paper copy of the [...]receipt. Lucky hotel had rooms available and was provided room as a walkin. The reservation department squared away billing first thing Monday morning. Refrigerator did not work, but that might have been our fault. Switch on wall labeled refrigerator. Did not check for on/off switch on refrigerator. Was told hotel charges %5.21 for parking. I did not see that mentioned as an additional cost. Free continental breakfast - unexpected surprise - simple but good.

Great place to stay!
This was a great place to stay for way less than anywhere else I could find in Kona (there's also an Uncle Billy's in Hilo). room was fine and clean, staff was friendly, and Uncle Billy even came out to say hello at breakfast and welcome everyone to his place. Right in the downtown area and walking distance to everything around Ali'i Drive. If I come back to the Big Island I'll make my reservation here, and will recommend it to any friends who need a place to stay in Kona or Hilo.

Great hotel for the price
The location rocks! You can walk anywere in North Kona, except big box stores, but who wants them in Hawaii?Decent guestroom - very clean. Rather retro, but we loved the wooden sliding patio doors and other original touches. The beds are very "sleepable". We would have liked more towels. The pool was nice. We would have liked a hot tub.[...] was very nice as well. The other guests were friendly. It is a great mid-level hotel!

hawaii 5 'o'
What else do you need, bed, shower and toilet. Its a throwback to the 70's in the decor sense. Basic and no fuss. But who wants to stay in the hotel when its hot hot outside, hawaii rules, sun, sea, tropical fish, humpbackwales, tropical jungle and the friendliest people wherever you go on the island. don't just stay in kona. ALOHA
