Kona Bay Hotel (Uncle Billy's Hawaiian Family Resorts)

The hotel location is good - close to the beach & shopping. The room location I had was terrible - heard loud conversations on both sides (registration area & parking entrance). The mini-refrigerator had rust around the edges. The cold breakfast was very limited - bread, english muffins, pastries, papaya.

A truly wonderful place that's a great bargain and a kitschy, funky old Hawaiian vacation spot. The 70's architecture, classic island getaway design, and outdoor dining and check-in area are really endearing. We were greeted even late in the evening by a wonderful front desk clerk. Our stay was lovely. It's not a place you'd want to spend a lot of time, but it's great for a night. And it's perfectly located on the main drag in Kailua, too. Easy access to the beach and tons of shops/restaurants.

Very good price, friendly staff, great location (right in the middle of all the restaurants and stores). Does need to be updated a little, but would definitely stay there again.

Uncle Billy's Kona Hotel is very conveniently located on Alii Drive next to all of the action in bayfront Kailua, Kona. We had a large room in the older, open section of the hotel, with two queen beds and a pleasant little lanai. The room was a little grungy, but comfortable enough with a small refrigerator, a room safe, and free wireless. A continental breakfast was offered, but I can't comment on the quality as we did not take advantage of it. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Parking is cheap at $5 for overnight. The room was not well insulated for sound and it was one of the NOISIEST nights ever, between a lovesick chirping coqui frog, late night partying and singing somewhere, early morning garbage pickup, and the worst, an eager leaf blower who started early before the mall across the street opened. That awful sound penetrated and reverberated throughout the room. Fortunately the room is moderately priced, and if you can sleep through any disturbance, you would probably find it a good value.

At first I booked the hotel with some courage because the review in here is not very good, but it turns out to be very good. Just in the downtown Kona, cross the street to the ocean, close to all ocean activity place. I would highly recommend this hotel to people.

Uncle Billy's is a spot for those looking for a no frills spot to rest your head in kona town. If your looking for the cheapest option and will only be there at night it'll work just fine but it's the kinda place you would be embarrassed to tell anyone who knows the area that it's where you are staying. Essentially it's the same as a motel 6. Not particularly clean and an interesing odor (esp in the elevator) but comfy enough beds. Don't expect too much info out of the front desk people either. Biggest recommendation is reserve your rental car before you arrive because this side of the island is often sold out.

Nothing particular for that price. The rooms are old, but clean. The breakfast is just nominal. There are many restaurants, gift shops, groceries etc. around, but the beach is not very good.

Th bathrooms are very old and rusty. They need to remodel them very soon. The same for the rerig.

This hotel is great for the location and price not the best for comfort but a good place to crash.

The rooms are nice and the hotel is just in town center and restaurants and shops are close by. The staff is friendly and helps where ever they can. They have washing machines and dryers. Inclusive is a continental breakfast which is very basic, but every room got a fridge so you can bring your own stuff with you.
