A bit run down.

The hotel is not very well maintained. Needs a facelifting. Breakfast only until 09:00 am.

You get what you pay for

Uncle Billy's is an extremely convenient hotel to stay in while you visit the Kona side of the BI. The pool is nice, it's close to everything you'd want to explore and the staff is sweet and accommodating. The rooms, however, leave a lot to be desired. Ours had a great partial ocean view, but was decidedly unclean. I'd stay there again, because you can't really beat the cost, but know that it's definitely lacking any of the bells and whistles.

Close to everything

Hotel was close to food and shops. This hotel is old, we were a bit disappointed. Air in the room was not good, seemed to be not cooling well. Breakfast was a joke, basically toast, mango, and coffee or juice. Would not stay here again.

Accurate review below

Great location. Close to all the small beach town has to offer. Older hotel that have pretty grounds that are well mantained. Room itslelf was not kept up very well. Horrible linens and blankets, dirty carpet, bad water pressure, towel racks falling apart, only two small towels daily. Friendly staff however and the price was reasonable. Because of its proximity to all there is to do in town we would stay here again but check our room first before accepting it's condition.

Very Good For It's Age

Friendly Staff. Great Location, Housekeeping inconsistent (coffee and soap not replaced everyday, vaccumming done randomly) rooms need updated air conditioning, (current units too noisy to operate during sleeping hours). Other than that, it was a great place to stay.

Great hotel for the price

The location rocks! You can walk anywere in North Kona, except big box stores, but who wants them in Hawaii?Decent guestroom - very clean. Rather retro, but we loved the wooden sliding patio doors and other original touches. The beds are very "sleepable". We would have liked more towels. The pool was nice. We would have liked a hot tub.[...] was very nice as well. The other guests were friendly. It is a great mid-level hotel!

Base for an Explorer

If you leave early and return late, it works great. Needed a place to secure things and a comfortable bed. Although the bed was short for me, it was fine. Early coffee available in lobby. Tried the continental breakfast on a rest day. Ordinary with no protein. Shower and sink fixtures needed refurbishing; their condition detracted from room, but functioned fine.

Taxi from airport to rental car desks at Marriott cost $35.00 with tip each way. Airport shuttle from Marriott was at least $15.00 per person. However, comparable rental car price dropped from $46/day to $29/day. Best deal depends on number in party and number of rental days. Do the math.

A place to crash for a night

The place had a ammenties. However, free internet was out of order, room at smell of urine when we first arrived. Continental breakfast was okay wit only one fruit native to the island, toast, bagel, coffee, and fruit juice.

Older, but terrific location and price.

We have stayed many times at Uncle Billy's. It's in the middle of the Kona Coast near all the shops, restaurants, and historical sites. It's an older hotel, but clean and taken care of by a fantastic and friendly staff. And really....how long are you going to stay in a hotel when you're on vacation in a beautiful place like Hawaii?

There's a shuttle which starts at the King Kam hotel and travels the length of the coast line and it only costs $1 each time you get on. It stops at several beaches and market places along the route. It could save you the price of a car rental if you are only interested in shopping/beaching along the main route of Kona city. Also on Wednesdays, when the cruise ships come in, all the major stores (Walmart, Kmart, Hilo Hattie's, etc.) send shuttle busses to the wharf to pick up the cruise ship visitors and take them to their stores. It doesn't matter if you are from the ship or not, the shuttles are there for anyone who wants to shop.

Cheap hotel in center of town

The hotel location is good - close to the beach & shopping. The room location I had was terrible - heard loud conversations on both sides (registration area & parking entrance). The mini-refrigerator had rust around the edges. The cold breakfast was very limited - bread, english muffins, pastries, papaya.
