Great staff, but building sucks

Ceiling falling off in bathroom, plumbing backs up daily, staff snakes daily. Night time plumbing girgles, you find sewer dirt in bath/shower in the morning. One lamp did not work, had to use facecloth as wedge to keep chest drawer closed.

The KK in DOWN TOWN Kona

The King Kam's Location: The location n staff is what made it for us. You are conveniently located just off to one side from DownTown Kona. Especially if do not want to get a rental car, the KK is just a 20 seconds walk of the beginning of old town Kailua Kona. The center of town is just 5 min. walk along the ocean front. Food/Breakfast buffet: If you like real omelets as I do. Literally this is the only place that makes a real omelet, NOT just a skinny folded in thirds fried egg with with luke warm comdements in side as ALL others have evolved in during my first 63 years of life have been. Staff: The four staff my wife n I came in regular contact with were all sincere, friendly and professional at all times. A vary refreshing change from the "it's my job to be friendly" attitude most hospitality staff now seem to have in America now. Convenience: Most Kona hotels do NOT have white sand beaches, the KK's beach is just right and in the right spot, only seconds form the hotel as also is the hotel's parking. The KK's parking is NOT the normal half mile + hike from the lobby as most hotels seem to be now a days. I could go on but will not waist your time. In conclusion, I will stay at the King Kam again and that is perhaps the best n most sincere gage of satisfaction......

Dining tip: In Hotel

Get the breakfast buffet, suggest you do not order off the menu. You can choose either and mix the two at the same table. I got the buffet n my wife ordered off the menu our first day there. My wife changed her mind and started using the buffet the remainder of our trip....

decent hotel

Room is average sized. pool is COLD (not great in winter months). Food is mediocre. Was disappointing that we came on our honeymoon and were given a room with 2 beds. Forget that we got no upgrades, but they couldn't even accommodate us with a room with one bed. Short of it, mediocre place with plenty of other mediocre places nearby that were much cheaper and more in the heart of the city.

Vacation in paradise

With the up and down reputation of the King Kamehameha, I was a little uncertain about the outcome. The hotel was clean and fresh. The A/C worked great, which I think is mandatory for a tropical vacation. The pool and deck were clean and well mantained. The beach front, though public, seems only to be frequented by Hotel guests with easy acces to snokeling. Located in the center of old Kailua, it was a short walk to restaraunts, etc. You could actually get by without a car. The on site restaraunts were not exactly top notch. The partial ocean view from the 6th floor was fine, kind of reminded me of Italy. All in all, a great value. The only problem is finding time to get back there.

Good Location

This is a pretty cool hotel with some cool displays in the lobby and near the restaurant. It is close to the ocean with a nice little beach for kids to play around in. It can be a busy area but that's because it is close to all the shops down on Alii Dr. If your goal is to stay in the Kona area this is a solid choice. Nothing to complain about really, other than a microwave would have been nice. Also, on luau nights the parking lot can get crowded. Kinda of annoying seeing as they charge you an additional $10 per day to park.

Killer Tacos- Cheap mexican food in large quantities. Also a good public beach just north of here near the skate park. Rocky, but nice little tidal pools to explore

Pleasantly surprised at the Excellence!

Only our second time booking a "discounted" hotel online and were quite pleased with the accomodations. We would be happy to stay at this property whenever returning to Kona, HI. Thanks for pointing us in the right direction!
