Meh.
I don't know why they bother to ask if you want 2 beds or one.....they never have the info in the computer, andI had to go back and get the correct room after already going up to my 1st room. The clerk was very nice about it all, but, he did say that the info was not in the computer???? The location was great for dining and drinking in town with many choices. The bar and patio was nice.

Unsatisfied exprience at Royal Kona Resort Hotel
I've booked this hotel 4 months in advance. I was placed in the room in the tower that faces the stage and the luau concerts are held every other day from 5pm till 8pm on this stage. The sounds of drums and music from the loud speakers was unbearable, it's impossible to have any rest even with all windows and balcony doors closed. I requested to change the room and had passive agressive attitude from the staff at the front desk. Finally, after insisting on changing the room, I was relocated to the room above the commercial air conditioner of their downstairs restaurant. Isn't it 'good care about their clients'? There were cockroaches in the room, the floor of the kitchenette and bathroom was dirty with the brown stains. There is no beach at this hotel, only tiny lagoon with the ice cold water as the hotel building actually blocks sun in the mornings. Please save your money and nerves, do not spoil your vacation, book some other hotel.

Sightseeing tip:
Short drive from hotel
Rent a car, drive to the Hapuna beach or better book the nearby hotel at this beach. It's only 25 minutes drive to the north from Kona airport but the beach and the ocean are gorgeous.

Needs to remodel
Had a 13 inch analog tv and the remote did not work. Doors were slamming too noisy. This was an upgrade? Will probably stay at the King K hotel next time.

Outdated rooms, Sub-par service, First Rate Location
My room hadn't been updated since this place was built in the 1970's. Inconveniently placed power-outlets, old light switches, stains on the carpet... it works, but if you are a picky hotel guest- you may want to check elsewhere.. On the other hand, if you don't really care about little details like that, and just want a nice comfortable bed in a beautiful location, for a really good price this facility will fit the bill. (the bed was very comfortable btw) Was here on business, so didn't explore beach/pool (do they have a pool?) but otherwise it fits the bill for business travel to Kona. As an aside, the chief complaint I had was the lack of Bell Service/Valet. You have to unload curbside yourself, then go park your car in a rickety old parking lot a bit of a walk from the entrance. They also give you a parking pass to display on your dash on check-in so if you are going to park, you are supposed to walk all the way back to your car to display that... I ignored those instructions and my car was still there in the morning. $10/day for parking- don't show the gatekeeper your computer stamped ticket when you go to leave, show them the handwritten one they give you when you check in to avoid paying double for parking as other guests have alluded to in these reviews. At $100/a night in paradise, I'm willing to overlook this minor inconveniences though- I think most rooms have ocean view, and you just can't beat the location. One other high point- the lobby bar- EXCELLENT service from the bar tenders there, and the setting is simply magical- Quesadilla is really good too with a Kona Brewery Longboard draft. Recommended!
