It also has one of the famous Kauai landmarks, Spouting Horn, Kauai's answer to Old Faithful. Families can walk to Poipu Beach Park where a protected ocean lagoon is safe enough for young children.Rooms
Rooms at the Sheraton Kauai Resort look out on the Pacific or gardens and koi ponds. Decor is perfectly suited to Kauai -- sunny palettes and rich woods with fabrics and accents that reflect the changing hues of sky and ocean. Airy and uncluttered, the 394 rooms are housed in four-story buildings grouped in three locations around the 20-acre property.Features
The Hawaiian Cultural Center at the Sheraton Kauai Resort is part gallery displaying the work of local artists, part classroom where guests learn Hawaiian arts and crafts (artist demonstrations, lei-making and hula classes included in daily resort fee). Excellent Hotel
Very nice hotel, and ideal location. The pool and hot tub were both nice. And It was nice to walk out onto the beach in the morning. The resort fee sounded high at first, but considering that covers parking, wifi, free valet the first night, and activities, it wasn't so bad. Even with the fee, the rate was very reasonable, and felt we got a great deal for a prime location. Some tips: If you aren't much into views, opt for the garden view. It's not a bad view, you're closer to the parking lot, and still about the same walk to the ocean and pool.

Use caution when driving, especially at night. Most roads are very tiny and windy and it's very easy to miss a turn. Furthermore, some private or closed roads appear on online mapping tools, so when in doubt, stick to the major highways and you'll be fine.

Almost Heaven
We were here from Jan 17-27. Overall the location won out over any complaints, but the construction was a major issue...noisy, smelly and intrusive. Also, paying extra for a "partial ocean view" was a complete waste of money. The beach, garden and pool areas are beautiful. During construction there is only one restaurant on site and no hotel shop in which to pick up needed items...it's a long long walk to the nearest store. Weather was great; snorkeling was moderate; hotel activities staff booked us on a wonderful 5-hr whale watching boat trip...saw lots of whales, dolphins and turtles. Mahalo

We booked the shuttle bus from the airport to hotel and back. Rented a car in the hotel after our arrival. It was much less hassle than dealing with luggage and returns at the airport and we had door to door service.

My "GO TO' place to escape
I've stayed in this hotel twice now. And both times I absolutely LOVED my experience. The difference is - staff. True aloha spirit. I was welcomed and cared for. Location is fantastic. This review is long long past due. I'm planning to go back in April. And I'm looking forward to seeing the wonderful staff at the Sheraton and enjoying the Poipu Beach. From the bottom of my heart MAHALO for wonderful memories and true OHANA care :-D

Construction
We have stayed here before, but there is quite a bit of construction going on now. The ocean view dining room is not complete. The staff seemed "Tired". But considering the cost of the room it was a good value. The location is excellent and they have redone the pool area very nicely. Drinks are very expensive and not that great, food OK. I would wait until the construction is done before I could recommend this hotel.

Do not book garden view room
We stayed for a week in the garden view room. We Might as well have stayed at a different hotel. The rooms were TINY, in desperate need of a remodel, and across the road from the rest of the hotel, and dirty. The staff was unhelpful in local areas, they were more intersted in nickle and diming you on everything. There are rental fees for everyhing to do with the hotel, even though you are paying a 25 dollar resort fee. Oh and the remodeling in the garden view area is constant. The location of the hotel is nice as it is right on the beach, but the beach is so crowded we ended up going to Other beaches anyway. Restaurants around the hotel were very expensive too.

Definitely NOT a 4-star hotel, yet.
Re-think their rating on this particular Sheraton property. While every other Sheraton hotel tends to be in the high-star realm, This Sheraton is not quite there. The renovations continue at all hours. One day they were applying some adhesives that made the entire resort smell like an oil refinery. In fact, one evening we arrived back to the room to find a memo under our door stating the water would be off from the hours of 12am - 6am. Sure, not the worst situation, but the hotel didn't even offer anything more than "we're sorry." That's generic-hotel quality, not Sheraton. Sheraton can do a much better job of warning guests that the construction is a big noise issue. The resort fee of $26 is rediculous for the services. Do yourself a favor and spend an extra $100 bucks at a different hotel. Again, this is generic quality hotel masquerading as a Sheraton. On a side note, the maid service was SUPER prompt and all the maid staff were very pleasant and happy all the time. Also, if you don't rent a car, use Speedie Shuttle service vs. the one the hotel recos.

Short walk from hotel
Skip Sheraton's Lava restaurant. It is more expensive than even the finer restaurants nearby. Also, do yourself a favor and purchase your own Mai Tai drink fixings at the Whalers Cove (similar to ABC Stores). Sheraton charged $10.50 for each watered-down drink they serve. Shameful, really.

Fantastic oceanviews, watch the whales from your deck!
The location of this hotel and the service can not be beat. Also there are alot of restaurants and shops close by. The room are a nice size and with large decks overlooking the ocean on the oceanfront rooms. The hotel is remodeling some areas and at this time it was a bit of a nuisance because it is close to the ocean front pool. Also the restaurant that overlooks the ocean is getting completely remodeled and we really missed having breakfast there in the mornings and watching the whales as we have done in the past. All in all this hotel is a great value for Kauai!

Pleasant Garden restaurant is just a block down from the hotel and is in a gorgeous setting overlooking orchid gardens. There is a covered porch to eat out on overlooking the gardens. The food is good and the service excellent.

Perfect stay on the Garden Isle
A fantastic "winter" location on the south side of Kauai made for gorgeous sunsets and view of migrating humpback whales. Pool areas seemed small but the beach was nice, and there is a whole new bar/restaurant under construction but it was not too intrusive. The dining at "Lava's" was limited - more like a bar with only bar food, and not many options for vegetarian diets. Lots of other places to explore around the small towns nearby.

Short drive from hotel
Go see the staff at the Activities Desk right away to plan your itinerary while on Kauai - Isaac was very helpful and loaded my vacation with everything I wanted to do to make it a perfect getaway. A rental car is necessary to visit all the sights and local towns on the island, but some places like Old Koloa Town make for a decent walk.
