Great Hotel on the Beach
Beautiful hotel overlooking the ocean. This is one of the only resorts in Poipu with a swimmable beach. Service was excellent, bed was extremely comfortable, and the pool/spa area right on the beach was fantastic. Very romantic; great for couples (although I would probably go for a vacation rental with a kitchen if I were bringing kids). Would definitely recommend.

If you like sushi, try poke at the Koloa Fish Market in Koloa, just a quick drive north from the hotel. It came highly recommended by the locals and was both delicious and cheap. (Note: this is a grab-and-go place, not an eat-in restaurant.)

Sheraton Kauai
Overall we had a good stay, the service was excellent, our room was on the opposite side of the road & claimed a partial ocean view, which is iffy. The rooms were average, but the bed was heavenly and it was nice to have wifi included, for a resort fee of course. The main restaurant was very nice, but the pool restaurant, Lava, was under construction 7 days a week, making the pool very noisy. One of the best beaches on the island, but no chairs.

Good place to sleep not to hang out
First of all the hotel website says the construction has already been completed. Only on half the hotel. There is still plenty of construction going on, and most of the rooms have yet to be rennovated. The staff is friendly and helpful as you would expect at a four star. There are two pools one of which is on the beach and is packed with kids :( There is only one jacuzzi. What???? This huge hotel only has one jacuzzi? Yep you guessed it...packed with kids!!! Hope you don't plan on swimming on your Hawaiian vacation. Luckily the Grand Hyatt is just down the street. The pool area is great!!! Also the bar at the pool closes at 6PM. You might as well tell people to go somewhere else. The only other place to get a drink is to walk over to Rumfire. Guess what? They won't let you in with shorts on. Ha? They must think we're in Alaska. Soooooo where do I get a drink in this place??? Nobody can figure it out. We stayed for 10 days, luckily we were gone on excursions everyday and only came back in the evening. Again, it's a good place to sleep...That's about it.

Kauai getaway
My wife and I very much enjoyed our week long stay at the Kauai Sheraton. Our room was pool and beach front on the third floor. We really enjoyed our early morning and late afternoon lounging on our veranda. The staff was very friendly; the wireless worked well and had a good dinner one evening at their new restaurant, Rumfire. Overall, a very favorable experience and would recommend this hotel.

Needs a nudge from good to great
The Sheraton Kauai is a beautiful resort on the ocean. The grounds are lovely. The Poipu location is excellent. To be truly great, however, the following things need to be fixed: (1) End the $25/day extra "resort charge". Its a rip-off for things like yoga, which we didn't do, local calls and wifi. A classy hotel simply includes small fees in its price and charges a la carte for special stuff like classes. (2) The housekeepers need a checklist each time they clean a room. We never knew what we were going to get day to day in terms of soap, coffee, etc. (3) A double room should have facilities for 2 people, such as 2 chairs, 2 luggage racks, a coffee maker that can make 2 cups of coffee. (4) The soundproofing between rooms with doors between them is not good. We heard our neighbors talk, snore, play music, etc. This was not loud partying we could complain about, just normal behavior.

Best swimming beach around!!!
The hotel has been restored..still in process. The site and beach location is the best around. Go for it!!!! i am a swimmer and there were great , wild, fun, waves but not a dangerous feeling. I pay more attention to the beach than anything else. The staff was great and took special care of our birthday friend. The new rooms are lovely. If in garden area, be sure to get a room overlooking the back pool...lovely setting and can see tip of ocean from top floor. The other garden buildings are amidst construction. Only sad note, the food was not wonderful (except Ahi salad in beach bar)...but we were disappointed this whole trip with the food wherever we went...so not necessarily a special problem here (like fish overcooked everywhere, etc). Great trip...wish i were back. Food may be better when other restaurants open after renovation.

Stunning location, but beware the marketing
A couple of caveats for people considering this property: 1) One might think an 'Ocean View Escape' room would look directly out over the ocean. Wrong. Rather: 'If you go onto the lanai, and look to the side between the other buildings, you can see a bit of the ocean.' That sort of -- shall we say excessively creative? -- marketing is an old joke at low-cost motels, but I didn't expect it at a Sheraton. It took some unfortunately tense negotiations with the manager over upgrade fees to get us a room most people would consider 'ocean view.' 2) Given that both T-Mobile and AT&T cell coverage is very spotty in the area (not the hotel's fault) it would make sense for the property to have a robust wi-fi system. Instead the wi-fi signal was so weak as to be mostly unusable in some places -- including our room -- yet strong enough to stream video from the pool. This could be easily fixed by channeling a bit of the sizable daily 'resort fee' into a network upgrade. The above said, the location is beautiful, with snorkeling right from the property, and the pool available after it was too dark for ocean swimming. The rooms were well-appointed and clean, with nice touches like Starbucks for the in-room coffee machine and a separate trash can for recyclables. We went off-campus for our meals, so I can't speak to the hotel food options. I checked 'No I would not recommend this hotel' below, mainly because there is no 'It depends' option. If the room options were more clearly spelled out in advance, and if we'd gotten a room with decent wi-fi coverage -- or been the sort of travelers who prefer a concierge to Google Maps -- our experience would have been rather different.
