Low-rise condos with tranquil gardens and ponds in Poipu.
The former home of Hector Moir, manager of Koloa Sugar Plantation, and his wife, Alexandra, sits at the heart of Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation, a 33-acre condominium resort. Guests today are welcomed in the same setting where the Moirs welcomed guests, and the gracious home overlooking ponds, orchids and a cactus garden houses the Plantation Garden restaurant. Low-rise buildings with plantation-era details evoke the charm of old Hawaii. You can't get closer to the beach than this, but you may occasionally share it with a sea turtle or monk seal.
Highlights
  • Alexandra Moir's legacy, Moir Gardens
  • Complimentary wired Internet in condos for guests with laptops
  • Poipu Beach with surf breaks, water sport rentals
  • Book one-bedroom oceanfront units at least six months out
Location

Rooms
There are 333 one- and two-bedroom condominiums on 33 acres. Ranging from 620 to 1,180 square feet, all condos at Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation have complete kitchens, one or two lanais, and a pullout sofa. Maid service is available upon request for a fee.
Features
Guests share in several nice facilities nearby. Parents with children age 4-12 enjoy adult time while kids play next door at Sheraton's supervised children's program. Kiahuna Golf Club, a short drive away, offers Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation guests special rates and charging privileges at its restaurant and pro shop. Of course, beach lovers need only stroll a short way to get their fill of surf and sand.

Around 24 couples a year marry here, many under the spreading banyan tree. Those who want to say "I do -- again" can join a complimentary weekly vow renewal ceremony for up to six couples.
Dining
The on-site Plantation Garden serves up nostalgia and Pacific Rim cuisine. Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation guests are also welcomed at Joe's on the Green at Kiahuna Golf Course. A quiet condo getaway

We have stayed at Kiahuna Plantation five times since 1979. This was the best stay in terms of excellent maintenance, efficient housekeeping services, and friendly staff.

Very good quality for price

This hotel, with kitchen, was perfect for my wife and me since we didn't want to eat out for every meal. The cost was great for the room we received. The building was by the road so there was some traffic noise and roosters are noisy all over the island. The open concept (not windows, only screens and shudders) was so nice to have the fresh air at night, even if the wind whistled a bit after we closed the shudders. Don't expect a 5-star hotel here but we both would stay here again since it was very nice and met our needs (place to sleep and spends some time in between outings). The beach is a bit of a walk but it was easy enough to drive and park near it. There are so many good beaches all over the island, I don't know why you would want to stay at just this one anyway. Great locations (restaurants and shopping right across the street). Really had no complaints!

If you go in the winter, be prepared to get muddy when hiking. Most trails we did were very slippery and we were very dirty when we finished!.

Kiahuna.. Great Spot to vacation

This was not our first trip to Kiahuna Plantation, but it was probably our best. The "Local Expert" service lead us to great activities on the islands to enhance our enjoyment of the Garden Island. We had first class guides and tours. Kiahuna is a very special place for family enjoyment, but was equally nice for a couple. The lawn areas and the location along Puipu are incomprable. We have already begun thinking about next trip to this wonderful place.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

First of all, you need not eat out every meal. But in those time when a "nice dinner-out" is called for, try the Beach House for the best view of the sunset and exceptional food. When sunset has passed, try Keoki's accross the stree in the shopping center. Keoki's has great food as well.

Good location, decent for families.

The hotel is just fine, spacious and a great location. The only way to get really close to the beach and have an awesome view is to spend WAY more money. But the garden view rooms are pretty as well. Even the farthest rooms from the beach are still just a five minute walk, and Poipu is one of the best swimming/playing in the waves beach on the island. The only down side: the pool and hot tub are not down by the beach like neighboring Sheraton. They're a 5-10 minute walk across the street. Very strange....

Excellent location for the price

Kaua'i is beautiful and far from the madding crowd. Kiahuna Outrigger was lovely, quiet, relatively close-in to all the amenities - beaches, activities, snorkeling, shopping. The island is small enough to travel easily by car to visit a variety of sites and many gorgeous beaches - none overly populated. Not as much "touristy" stuff which was excellent. Zip-lining and Heli tour were superb activities.

Beautiful Setting

Great access to Poi'ipu beach for snorkelling; saw several sea turtles and myriad reef fish. Loved the hotel beach, as well. The gardens are beautiful. Don't miss a drink with some appetizers at the Plantation Restaurant. Staff are extremely friendly and service was very good; rooms kept clean and well maintained. Be sure to attend the orientation on your first morning to learn about island activities. The helicopter ride was amazing.

Ideal location close to restaurants

Staff was great, setting up activities. Condo was clean and user-friendly. Took some tours and went to luau at Hyatt. Loved tour of Waimea Canyon/Wailua River cruise. Wish hotel had on-site pool and a lite-fare restaurant (ex: lunch/breakfast). Also, being from Arizona would have liked air-conditioning. We felt sticky and damp the whole time. The trip was great for the price [...]!

Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation

Nice, clean condo. Knew there was no a/c, but it would have been nice to have as it was hot and humid during our stay.
