Paradise

Beautiful hotel located directly on the beach. Very relaxing. Staff was very friendly. Rooms immaculate and comfortable. We went snorkeling near the hotel and saw fish and turtles. Watch out for the big waves! They can hurt you.

Wow.

We were first-time visitors to Hawaii and did an exhaustive search into which island to stay, etc. We knew that the Big Island would be a great choice because we did not want the touristy-feeling and commercial feel of Honolulu. Orbitz had a fantastic package deal with airfare, hotel, and car rental (please note – a car is an absolute must to get around, and we brought our own GPS, which was very helpful). We were greeted with fresh juice and hot towels upon check in and were upgraded from a partial ocean view to an ocean view on the 9th floor. The view was breathtaking – I have never seen anything like it. We even slept a couple of nights with the sliding doors open. The hotel provides for everything, slippers and a robe, mini-fridge, books about Hawaii, an umbrella – everything you could imagine. The location is a bit far from Kona – over 30 minutes – but we only went there one day to stock up on supplies. Buy your snorkel gear at walmart or bring your own, as the rental fees are high. The snorkeling was phenomenal – we saw all kinds of fish and watched a sea turtle grazing on the rocks for almost a whole morning. The waters are calm and blue, the sand is smooth, and there is not a hint of seaweed. Don't expect to find shells, though. The beach is open to the public but we noticed that towards the hotel, only guests lingered. The state park drew most of the crowds. We kept returning to Kings Shops/Queen's MarketPlace for shopping and food - Mauna Lani and Waikoloa Market were a disappointment. One thing that I would have liked to see improved is information on activities near the hotel – the hotel staff didn't seem to know much. There is an activity desk but it is an outside company that will try to get you to go on their day trips. The activities staff was helpful, though – still, do your research and have an idea of where you want to go. All in all, we couldn't be more pleased with our experience here – it was a restful and rejuvenating vacation. We will definitely be back!

Hawaiian Holiday

Would recommend Mon, Jun 15, 2009
The staff was the friendliest, without exception, in all of the 35 years my wife and I have taken vacations. The food was excellent, and even with someone occupying the room next to ours all week (more than one couple) it was extremely quiet. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and the food, and food service, was first rate.

Best combo of beach/hotel/value in Hawai

Would recommend Sun, Jun 14, 2009
This is probably the best combination of incredible beach with good hotel you can find in all of Hawaii. We can't say enough about how convenient having a room at a world class hotel a mere steps from one of the best beaches in the world is. Don't hesitate for one minute about this hotel and also go for the beachfront if it isn't that much more. The only drawback is that the hotel was so empty that some of the facilities (restaurants, etc.) are closed.

Money saver

Watch Orbitz sales on this hotel as we scored an unbelievable deal for an oceanfront room.

Great hotel, wonderful staff, terrific!

Would recommend Sat, Jun 6, 2009
I took my wife for our one year wedding anniversary and just got back today. We had a wonderful time - the food at the hotel is terrific as is all of the food in the area. Volcanoes National Park is a must. Mauna Kea Observatory was really cool. We enjoyed all of the beaches, the luau's, waterfalls, horseback riding, snorkeling, etc.. The staff at the Hapuna Prince and Mauna Kea resorts are top notch. We would definitely go back to Hapuna Prince again.

Perfection in Paradise!!

Would recommend Fri, May 29, 2009
Absolutely stunning view and beach. Wonderful, helpful staff. We had a chance to visit a larger resort hotel for a luau and were very glad we chose a smaller, more intimate and elegant hotel like Hapuna Beach Prince. We felt lost at the other one! If you want to get away, this is definitely the place.

Money saver

Since this hotel is in a resort area, food is a bit pricey. Save your money and go to Foodland or Sack 'n' Save in Kailua Kona. We stocked up on necessities and deli sandwiches and kept them in the mini fridge in our room. The Hapuna Cafe on site was reasonable.

Excellent location, not so great service

Would recommend Fri, May 29, 2009
One of the best locations on Big Island. Excellent swimming. Very nice hotel. So if you looking for the right place – it is one. But you looking for excellent service – it is not. We purchase it as a package – flight, hotel, car… But when we arrived around 14:00 PM (after 12++ hours of travel) room was not ready but the hotel was half empty. Reception promised to speed up the process, but 60 minutes later it was not ready. We finally get other room not the one we reserve. Reception was not really helpful in some other cases also.

Great one week vacation

Would recommend Thu, May 28, 2009
The Hapuna Hotel has elegant surroundings yet a casual atmosphere. The hotel is open and airy. You always feel comfortable in whatever your are wearing, swim attire, resort casual clothes or dressed up for dinner. The staff has a very unimposing presents, but are available if you need them. The direct flight to Kona from San Francisco gets you there early afternoon so you can get settled and start your vacation with a afternoon stroll on the beach and then a sunset dinner.

Attractions

Venture out of the hotel area and see the island attractions. We have found that the various activities and tours are very organized, efficient, friendly staff and well worth the money and time.
