Hapuna Prince
The Hapuna is a great hotel with an awesome beach right below it. The hotel is very quiet and you rarely see or hear guests, except at meals, poolside or on the beach. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The only real problem that we encountered was that mealtimes are limited and the bars close at 8:30. This wouldn't have been much of a headache , but the Hapuna is about a 15 minute drive from any goods and services. In fact the restaurant the bell hop recommended was on the other side of a DUI checkpoint.

A beautiful spot!
Staff helpful; great beach; food at beach bar and grill very good. Other restaurants at hotel too pricey so ate elsewhere. Room view incredible. Hapuna Beach is our favorite on the Big Island. Loved the openness of the hotel w/birds flying around.

Decent place
We stayed at the Hapuna for 8 days in jan 2013. Pros: beautiful bay setting including whales breaching just off shore. Amazing sunsets. The best sand beach i have ever visited - no rocks. perfect for boogie boarding . Star gazing is offered through the resort and was a highlight as we live in a city with light pollution. (although expensive through the hotel). Nice rooms (although the tv was a CRT). The restaurants are expensive but so is everything along this coast and the Hapuna restaurants are no more so. the food quality is very good - superior to many other spots we visited - including the buffets they run a few times a week. from speaking with a couple that returns to the big island every year for 30 years, this resort is apparently in the best weather spot on the island. Cons: they want to 'nickle and dime' you for everything. For example, it's ~$10 a day to park in their lot, and this resort is in the middle of no where so you really don't have a choice. I'm sure they don't check to make sure you've paid for parking as they don't take your car information so you could get away without paying depending on your personal ethics. Wireless internet is another ~$11 a day and is very very slow - personally if i am paying this much for the service I expect it to work. Water in the room is extra, boogie boards are $7/hr etc. If they included these components rather than being so miserly it would be appreciated and help guests to feel they are appreciated. We paid for a package at $25 a day for these things plus a few other things kicked in and then the staff would forget to bring the two included waters to the room. nothing major but sometimes it's the little things that count.. Also, the room has no amenities for you to prepare your own meals so a trip in to Kona to get supplies is suggested. although the best weather spot, you are +30 minutes to Kona and cut off from broader amenities. Expect to spend some time driving unless you stay on the resort. Ie the walk score is low. :) The staff is so-so. We came from the Trump in Honolulu and this was certainly a step down in service, although it's not terrible, just not that friendly when you check in, book excursions etc. Overall, this is a nice place especially if you can get it at a decent price.

nice but expensive with extras not included
at nearly 500 USD per night we enjoyed our room premium oceanview room with beautful view - BUT no glasses, no mini-bar, no knive&no fork&no bottle opener, and wifi at extra-charge same as parking AND no restaurant or bar open after 9.30pm..... Some staff very friendly and helpful but quite a few staff not so nice and friendly as expected in a place like this...... so on the whole we were not 100% happy- especially if we compare with same class of hotels in Europe or Asia...... but that's not Hawaii we know....

Beautiful location
The hotel is on a very beautiful private beach. We stayed there because we were attending a wedding at the hotel. The views from the balconies in the Ocean View rooms were amazing and worth the upgrade. The rooms are outdated, and the furniture needs refurbishment. Bathrooms are very spacious though. Everyone that worked there was very friendly, but the restaurants were very expensive. There's no food options near the hotel, so you will need to have a car and drive to other restaurants. Kona is about a 40 minute drive. If you want nightlife and lots of shopping then stay in Kona. If you want a quiet beach and relaxed vacation, then this hotel is a good option.

Short drive from hotel
As expected, the food at the resort is outrageously expensive. There are a few restaurants about 10 minutes north, and there are some south near the other resorts. There's also a grocery store in Waimea if you want to buy food and keep it in the fridge.

Beautiful Hotel
We loved our stay at the Hapuna Beach Hotel. We had a fantastic view from our room. The staff were all very helpful and friendly accept for the woman with the short hair at the activities desk. My only recommendation is that they open more restaurants for dinner or vary the menu from night to night.
