Opulent Poipu resort is both playground and blissful retreat
Acres of saltwater lagoons and freshwater pools, grottos, waterfalls, and an extravagance of tropical blooms create a setting so lush it could be a movie backdrop for the ultimate island love story. Tranquil but playful -- who can resist a 150-foot water slide? -- the AAA Four Diamond Grand Hyatt Kauai inspires thoughts of paradise. For spa-lovers it may well be paradise since Anara Spa added its blissful garden sanctuary. Yet golfers, kayakers and tennis players will also find idyllic ways to while away the hours … or days.
Highlights
  • 45,000-square-foot Anara Spa
  • Camp Hyatt (ages 3-12), now partnered with National Geographic Kids
  • Adjacent Shipwreck Beach, where "Six Days Seven Nights" was filmed
Rooms
Decor at the Grand Hyatt Kauai is "Classic Hawaiian" with warm hues and rich woods. There are more than 600 rooms, each with lanai or balcony, but the resort doesn't feel crowded thanks to meandering paths and waterways that create a multitude of secluded, peaceful areas.
Features
It is hard to peg the resort as ideal for couples or families, lovers or adventurers, golfers or kayakers, because it is for all of the above. Romantics find hidden nooks among the gardens and lagoons and in the serene spa. Tranquil lagoons beckon to kayakers while golfers can take the challenge posed by Poipu Bay Golf Course, where distractions include whales breaching just offshore. Parents have bonding time with children during cultural and family activities, and adult time while kids play and learn in highly regarded Camp Hyatt. A twice-weekly luau and Polynesian revue is for everyone.
Dining
There are nearly a dozen restaurants, bars, and snack venues at the Grand Hyatt Kauai, including an espresso bar where caffeine junkies can jump-start the day at 5:30 a.m. Stevenson's Library channels the ambiance of a Victorian gentleman's club (ladies welcome), a cozy spot for late-night Cognac or Port. Reserve in advance to dine at Dondero's, the only AAA Four Diamond restaurant on Kauai.

Wonderful place. We had a great, comfortable room. Spa and pools are spectacular. You also have a bunch of different options in terms of things to do (tennis, gym, golf. etc.). The island is also wonderful. Great vacation, we would go back in heartbeat!

Do not do the Nothern/Southern star sailing experience. That is not worth the cost and there are better ways to visit the Na Pali coast.

The best hotel on Kauai

I have been to Kauai 7 times. The Grand Hyatt is by far the nicest place to stay. The Poi Pou side is the sunny side and you are going to have sun when it's raining in Princeville. The pool is by far one if the most beautiful pools on the planet. Very amazing gym facility. Though it is expensive. You get what you pay for.

Awesome family getaway

We had a blast here! The resort and room was beautiful. We could walk out our back door stait to the beach! On the day of check out they have a complementary lounge where you can shower and get ready for your flight if you have hours after you have to check out from your room. Only down fall was the walk to our room from the parking lot and hotel lobby. Oh well we enjoyed the walk through the beautiful resort anyways!

Old world charm with 2014 sensibilities. When u say old world 'the picture of dark wood , carpets pop up instantaneously in your mind Fortunately this hotel is pretty light ,sunny airy .We enjoyed New Years a lot with a night trip to the beach fireworks , band et all plus were shuttle bused back to the hotel bar for more partying and the final count down to bid adieu to 2013. kinda reminded me of another memorable New Year in Taormina,Sicily. Thank you kindly Skgupta

Grand Hyatt = Grand Vacation!

We were blown away from the time we drove up to the hotel. Most ( except 1 or 2 ) of the staff was nice, professional, friendly, helpful and treated us very well. The only reason we didn't give room cleanliness a 5 rating was because of a little bit of ants in the room but we understand that it has nothing to do with the staff or cleanliness of room. Some things just cant be avoided no matter how clean things are. Restaurants are pricey hence the 4 rating on value but food is very good and they do charge a little bit for room service and meals are a bit high. I have no other minor complaints from here on. Grounds are incredible! Pools are amazing! The stay here was worth every penny and WILL come back soon. Didn't want to leave. Resort is so big that at night when we took a little stroll by the pools, gardens, waterfalls...etc..it was like we had the whole place to ourselves( not an exaggeration # even though place was all booked up. Great job Hyatt staff. You even offered us a hospitality room for an hour AFTER we had checked out so we could enjoy the pools and resort and shower and change afterwards. # we had explained that our flight wasn't departing until 9pm that night so we had a while before we had to head to the airport.) This was the clincher! Were coming back.
