Disappointing stay on Maui
Nice setting and beautiful views. But not from our "garden" room that was the cart path for the staff to zoom up and down at all hours of the day and night. Not sure why were given this deluxe room when we never saw other guests on our trek to and from the lobby. Our check in person was "Joy" which she was not. Her attitude was not helpful, snotty is a good and graphic word. I also checked out with her and it became evident that because we had booked a package deal we were not up to snuff compared to other guests. The house staff were very good and helpful. But could not make the room up with all amenities, had to chase down the cart a couple of times to get towels and other items. Unfortunate because the setting is really beautiful. The best feature of our stay were Loco and Moco, pot belly pigs that loved having their tummies rubbed and seemed truly appreciative of our presence.

Dining tip:
Short drive from hotel
We had a scrumptious dinner at Kimo's at sunset. Had local Maui cowie beef, wow, best prime rib I have ever had. Great service, attentive but not annoying.

So much is left to be desired...
Front-end staff is ok. Mmm... Not as friendly as other properties I have been to. E.g. Marriott Chicago! Checking-in wasn't anything spectacular. But, I got an oceanview room upgrade. So, not much complain there. I think the Ritz tries to create an exclusive atmosphere. I do appreciate it but didn't notice a lot of mingling. E.g. where are the japanese guests? Not too many to be found. Unless they are hiding in their own social gathering spots, I didn't see too many of them. They are scarce. For a high end resort, the Ritz at Kapalua, is definitely dated. E.g. furnishings. Or is this their corporate identity? The gym .... Ummm.... the equipment are so OLD. Even my neighborhood gym has newer more up to date equipment. Not only is it not great from the standpoint of keeping up to standards, but also not clever from a safety standpoint. SOme of these equipment are really rickety; completely incongruous with what a high end resort claims to provide as their amenities. There are not a lot of dining options on site! Mainly room service. My biggest peev is the signage. There are only signs for room numbers but nothing for "lobby" and other parts of the sprawling complex. I was there 2 nights, 3 days, and still got lost every time. What if there is fire / evacuation etc? All said, the pool is great. I was able to do laps when it was not too crowded. Would I visit again? Maybe. But I will like to try other resorts in the area, such as the Westin. Stay tuned.
