Nice but not over the top

Due to the disruption of the burial grounds during construction near the beach, this hotel had to be built back a bit from the ocean. Still all of the amenities and service you would expect from the Ritz, but had a bit of a feel like the Westin Time Share villas in the pool area and looking at it from there. Weather in Kapalua can be rainier than other parts of the island. In hindsight, I would have preferred Sheraton Blackrock for the beach and snorkeling and families should do the same. Ritz Kapalua might be good if you planned to lounge by the pool, hit the spa and enjoy the pricey but good food. Had their breakfast buffet and it is worth the $38 each since you can eat that much in berries alone if you were to buy at the local store. All in all not bad, it is the Ritz in Maui so how can you really go that wrong?

Ritz Carlton Kapalua

This hotel is in a windy part of the island. Days are 50/50 sun//rain/clouds. Rooms were nicely decorated. Fitness center equipment worn, pool was not very clean and poolside chairs worn also. For a hotel that just completed a major renovation, the details were overlooked. We had a club level room and Leslie, our conciege was fantastic!! Stay on the club level, its worth the extra.

Ritz Carlton like a Ritz Cracker

The hotel did not meet our expectations as a luxury type resort. For having a mandatory resort fee, we expected that there would be free or a small fee for water sports equipment, instead the hotel did not offer these amenities. Additionally, the hotel failed to give us "lei's" upon arrival. The concierge was very helpful with planning activities but they were always looking to "sell us" the highest costing activity. I guess that's how all hotels would be like. Overall, we expected a lot more from the Ritz Carlton as a luxury hotel instead it would have been better to just stay at a full service Marriott.

relax at the Ritz

If you want to get away from the crowds but still have reasonable access to the rest of the island, the Ritz Carlton at Kapalua is a wise choice. The west side is meant for couples looking for a serene atmosphere but with all the necessary amenities. The Honolua store for daily items is just a short walk from the hotel. You are surrounded by lush grounds while taking your daily walks. While the Wailea side is also very nice, Kapalua gives the feeling of truly being in a tropical setting.

Great place for a family vacation

Went to Maui to relax and get pampered. Kids wanted to spend as much time as possible in the water, either the ocean or the pool. The ritz offered both at reasonable price. The beach is really nice but the water is little too rough for small kids( we had a 3 year old). Very close to downtown lahina, which was convenient as the food at the ritz is on the expensive side, it adds up very quickly if you are staying there for a week or so.

Very Nice Resort!

We did not realize there were such substantial differences in rainfall from one area of the island to another. Had we realized we would have stayed further South. The resort was quite nice. The food was pricey - as others had indicated. The pools were nice - as were the hot tubs. Service was good with the possible exception of having to ask one of the three employees standing around chatting to each other if we could get someone to unload our luggage from the back of our opened trunk. All our employee experiences, after the first one, were quite nice! The gym was nice - nice equipment - pleasant staff. With the exception noted would rate it a 5 star!!!

elegant upscale hotel

Modern spacious and quiet room on beautifully landscaped property. Nice pool with two jacuzzis. Surf at the beach on the rough side. If planning to travel to Hana, Haleakala or upcountry Maui, Kapalua is farther away from these destinations than other resorts.

Great Experience

The Ritz had excellent service and we had a great room with a view of the ocean. The facilities were very clean and modern and the food was very good. The resort is pretty isolated which is both a positive and a negative. The upside is you don't have crowds of people everywhere and it is a pretty relaxing experience overall. The downside is that you are contained to the restaurants on the resort (except for a couple of exceptions) unless you want to drive. While the food is very good, there are not any cheaper options for dinner and the food is very expensive (as is most of Maui). The weather is a also a little bit shaky in this area of Maui so you will get a little more wind and rain.
