The warm tones of wood, woven grasses, honed plaster and gold-hued stone set a natural tableau for the bright colors of the fresh sushi delicacies. Nice hotal but the weather??

The hotel is great but please beware of where the hoteel is located. It is on the windward side of the island and it WILL RAIN. Most days it is windy and you can count on rain during your stay. The good news, if it does rain you can drive 4-5 miles south and get to nice beaches where it will be dry. If this hotel was located 5 miles south it would be the only place to stay on Maui. If you want sunshine everyday of your stay, stay closer to Lahaina.

2nd honeymoon

The good: Stunning property to look at; views of pools and lawns overlooking sea are postcards. Very, very clean, rooms as well as public areas, except hall carpets were worn (but they're replacing them right now). Great, clean (again!) 24-hr fitness center. 3 good-sized main pools, plus 2 jacuzzis and very nice kids pool. All staff except one - a very condescending spa receptionist - smiles and greets you at every single encounter....maids, concierge, front desk, bellmen. General store, easy walk from front entrance, has all the little things you forgot at real-world prices. The OK: the beach is at foot of the grounds, but is quite a hike downhill and has NO shade at all on the sand. The pools are very relaxing, never crowded, but also offer no shade unless you pay $100/day for a cabana. The extended Kapalua complex is reachable by shuttle and offers several great restaurants and a much nicer beach, but the best restaurant on the hotel property (Banyan Tree) has been closed, giving you too few choices if you don't want to leave the hotel! The not-good: Its location may suit those looking for very quiet seclusion/luxury, and probably great for golf, but it's best if you never intend to leave the complex. If you like to explore the sights and other great dtining, you're always setting out from the extreme end, which becomes a drag. The competitors may be mere 4-stars, but the ones I visited had close beach access, cool pools with shade options for when you bake, and more dining choices on site. Are they as elegant?...no. More fun?...maybe. More practical?....rained out the last 3 days, Ritz pools were unusable; on the advice of their bellman, packed towels and drove 20-30 minutes west and caught rays at the places I WASN'T paying for.

Great Family Vacation

The Hotel is very beautiful. The layout can be quite arduous if you are at the end a wing. Walk to lobby can be pretty long. Pool was a little cold for the young ones especially with the windy climate. Hotel staff is very friendly with Maids actually buying gifts for our kids. That was a first for us. You can save money by walking to local mart which we didn't find until last day. Played golf at both Plantation and Bay course. Free shuttles from lobby which is very convenient.

Go to local mart for sandwiches/breakfast, chips, drinks, etc. Food at hotel/pool is very good but pricey.

Nice, but should be better.

Overall hotel experience was clean and nice but not stellar, compared to other 5-star hotel experiences. Room amenities and towels were not always refreshed properly. The pools are lovely but the beach, which is more important at a beach resort location, was rough and not ideal for swimming or sun bathing.

Our first time at a Ritz and Kapalua

I wanted to say you can never go wrong in Maui but this place and location was exceptional. Just the right speed for me. I don't like it too slow - La Haina was close enough to drive any time. The property was perfect they treated you like you mattered. Remembered your name if they happened to meet. They took the time to make sure you were comfortable. The hotel was clean and beautiful.

We enjoyed out stay... but

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Ritz. The gentleman who checked us in was wonderful and all but one of the staff members were absolutely wonderful. We would have scored higher on the staff but the gentleman checking out the towels was a little rude and made you feel like were bothering him when we approached him. Not really the feeling you expect to have at a luxury resort like the Ritz Carlton. The only other thing I would recommend is maybe offering beach umbrellas to your guests and assisting your guests with bringing the chairs down to the beach. I had an arm full of items and was a little disappointed to find out we carry the chairs down to the beach on our own.

Almost Ritz-Carlton Level

Ritz-Carlton Kapalua had many of the things you'd expect of this property. Rooms were comfortable, but each(we had to move once) had a bit more sand from the beach than we'd have expected. Property is a bit spread out, meaning some walking was necessary. Quiet for this time of year, a plus to us. Valet/bell staff was excellent, easily the best of the hotel. Strange fishy smell, presumably from Kai Sushi, on the nights it was open - in our opinion you should never smell the fish in a sushi restaurant, especially out past the lobby. Nice property, but we will stay elsewhere when next on Maui.

Not so good if you don't golf

Beautiful grounds, and probably wonderful for golfers. We found the beach was not user friendly at all. Very high surf when we were there so you really had to fight the surf to get in the water. No umbrellas and reclining chairs near beach. A limited number of chairs on bluff above beach together with a few fancy recliners with awning for which you have to pay extra. A different set of truly awful singers and musicians in main lobby off bar/restaurant every day. Except for excellent buffer breakfast, restaurants have poor menu. However, excellent restaurants nearby which you can reach by hotel shuttle. Avoid in Jan-Feb. Weather was very poor when we were there.

Anniversary get away

Perfect for those who want to kinda disappear. It was my wife and I's 4th anniversary and we were celebrating our 1st child being in the oven. Needless to say she wasn't doing too many "heavy" things. the Ritz was a great blend of everything for everyone. A little too secluded from "action" for us but very great nonetheless. Highly recommended.
