Quiet Location, Little disappointing

For a 5-star hotel we found the facilities to be a little disappointing. There was a pool and the location near the coast was beautiful. However, the restaurants were average, menu limited, bar not very cosy, facilities not exceptional in any way- even a little run down in parts (carpets not clean, fixtures missing, for example). Room was average for 3-5 star - nicely appointed but nothing beyond what you'd expect from a 5-star. There was a $25 daily resort fee to cover water and coffee in the room. Service was average. Obviously a nice hotel but not necessarily worth the price compared to other high end hotels I have stayed in before.

Excellent, if pricy, West Maui Resort

The hotel is very clean, well organized, and the staff are extremely friendly, helpful, and attentive. Our room came with a minifridge and had a nice balcony overlooking the pool and the ocean. The pool and hot tub were fun and the pool-side bar made excellent drinks. I found the General Store (a minute's walk away) key for groceries, snacks, and drinks. The hotel is quite large, and the three-minute walk to the room from the lobby became slightly annoying as our week went on. The Ritz is basically the last hotel on the highway headed north, so to go almost anywhere means driving for a while. Kahului airport is an hour away and many of the activities we scheduled ended up being half-an-hour away or more. Nearby restaurants include Pineapple Grill in Kapalua, reachable by resort shuttle in very few minutes, which served us tasty burgers, and Roy's in Ka'anapali, which had an excellent menu. An hour away, past the airport, is Paia, where we had a fantastic meal at Flatbread Company.

Actually an hour-long drive (not an option under "distance" on this form) - Flatbread Company makes fantastic pizzas, salads, cocktails, and desserts. They made me feel welcome and right at home and the garlic chicken flatbread pizza we had was delicious.

I would stay in the Kaanapali area next time. The pool is just average and not much of a beach. Everything to do is in Kaanapali or Lahaina so you have to drive. The hotel food rates are pretty crazy and we could hear everything in the hallway.

Superior Customer Service...like no other!

We booked a quick 5 day getaway for our 10 year wedding anniversary in January 2012. In a word our entire experience was EXCEPTIONAL. From the beautiful resort to the breath taking views to the beyond first-class service, the Ritz Carlton is truly second to none. Two tips to remember in our opinon: 1. As a mom of 2 small children I would say that this is really not a kid friendly resort and I would not bring my children here to stay. While there are children present, the hotel definitely caters to the adults and not the children. 2. The cabana/poolside staff do backflips and practically turn themselves inside out to accomodate your every need. For example, when we inquired about where to purchase sugar cane to bring back for our kids, they summoned an employee with a machete to cut some stalk on the premises and had it sent to our refrigerator in our room while we lounged by the pool. UNBELIEVEABLE!!!! We had a FABULOUS time and would absolutely stay here again!!

Simply Beautiful

The hotel is gorgeous, situated on a golf course with a fabulous beach within walking distance. The pools looked great (I never got in because I had an ocean to swim in) and there are many restaurants and bars located throughout. The ocean view from the room was spectacular. There are also walking trails everywhere.

Whale watching tours in Lahaina... we chose a sail boat over a motor boat. Much more intimate, awesome and organic. I cant remember the name of the tour, but they are the only sail boat whale watching tour. Most excellent. Oh, we saw plenty of whales too!
