Mother and daughter getaway

Would recommend Mon, Jul 28, 2014
I was spending the weekend on a much needed getaway with my daughter. My daughter is autistic and has an extremely limited diet. Unusually, when we eat out, the wait staff is thoroughly annoyed when I have to order her food. It was nice to be treated courteously the entire weekend. We had a wonderful time and both got some much needed R & R.

Gorgeous hotel with the best staff ever!

Would recommend Mon, Jul 7, 2014
The Ritz Carlton Kapalua lives us to the reputation of the hotel chain. The hotel is beautiful, the pool areas were immense and relaxing, the grounds were a tropical paradise! I have never experienced such a welcoming and wonderful staff at any other hotel in my travels. Everyone was smiling and they jumped up to help with anything we needed. The valet even had our car washed because of the leaves that covered it after a storm! Over the course of 7 days, we played 5 rounds of golf at the 2 courses that surround the hotel. If you go golfing, don't forget your camera. The views from both the Bay Course (be sure to eat lunch at the Pineapple Grill) and the Plantation Course (dinner at the Plantation House is a MUST) are so amazing that it might help you forget how hard the courses are. There is a 1 1/2 mile nature trail that starts at the hotel and continues down the beach toward Napili. It has beautiful vistas and picture opportunities. Caution: the trail is not paved, so flip flops may not be the best way to navigate over the rocks - also, don't try the trail at night - way too many ways to twist an ankle in the dark. At the end of the trail, be sure to stop at Merriman's for another incredible dinner with great views. The ONLY drawback to the hotel is that it is situated a bit further off the beach than I would have preferred. When they were building the hotel, they discovered a Hawaiian burial ground near the beach that forced them to move the hotel back inland. During the day, they do run a golf cart shuttle down the hill to the beach if you don't want to make the walk. The water is a bit rougher than at Kapalua Beach which makes snorkeling a bit more of a challenge.

Attractions

Be sure to book a helicopter tour of the island. The hotel concierge helped us choose the best tour for us. It was the highlight of our trip!

Wonderful honeymoon

Would recommend Mon, Jun 30, 2014
My wife and I stayed at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua for our honeymoon, and had a wonderful experience. It was my first trip to Maui and my wife's second. From the moment you arrive at the hotel, the staff are helpful, courteous and happy to help with anything you might need. Perhaps the best thing about the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua is that the staff can help you with just about anything you need. The hotel itself has many amenities of a very high standard that you might be interested in, but even better, their concierge desk can sign you up for any activity on the island that you can think of, and make helpful recommendations if you need some guidance. After 20 minutes with our concierge Grant, my wife and I had our entire week planned out with helpful information and tips to help us along our way. We signed up for a snorkeling trip, a day at the spa, a tour of the Road to Hana, a luau, a paddleboarding lesson, and a cabana at the beach, all of which were excellent. We also got helpful advice on driving up to watch sunrise from the summit of Haleakala. The one issue I had with our stay was the location of the hotel itself. The property is gorgeous and secluded enough to make your stay feel exclusive and peaceful. Having said that, it was almost an hour from the airport, and it was also a considerable drive to other towns and locations in Maui that we wanted to explore. However, the hotel had a shuttle service that could help us get around, and enough of our activities were within the hotel property that my issues with location are minimal. Since we rented a convertible, driving when necessary was still rather fun and enjoyable. Overall, we had a fantastic honeymoon and I would definitely recommend the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua for any visitor to Maui.

Attractions

If you're driving up to watch sunrise at Haleakala, dress VERY warmly. It might slip your mind since no one thinks of Hawaii as cold, but the summit of the mountain was hovering at around 40 degrees, with very strong winds.

Again and Again

Would recommend Tue, Jun 24, 2014
I would visit this location again. The location is perfect for the romantic get-a-way we were looking for. The staff were extremely friendly from the bell hops at the doors, the different hotel staff inside and even the staff working the outside grounds. The room was always perfect condition.

Money saver

Use Urban Spoon and you will find some nice places around the area. The Gazebo was one of the best dollar values around.

Another Day In Paradise

Would recommend Mon, Jun 23, 2014
Hotel is beautiful and well kept, but they charge you for everything they can - including a $30/day mysterious "resort fee" on top of what you pay for your daily stay - but I guess that's why it is so well kept... Only other issue we had is hotel is quite far north of everything, including road to hana, town of old lahaina, jet-sking, etc. - we ending up renting a car for $150/day from hertz on-site hotel concierge. Our advice would be to rent a car that you can pick up from airport when you book your trip... nonetheless Maui is breathtaking and an unforgettable place to visit... Aloha!

Great hotel

Would recommend Sun, Jun 15, 2014
Everything was great from the staff to the actual property. But don't forget all this greatness comes with a price. Bring your wallet and savings account because they are VERY expensive from food to drinks.

Dining

Sea House, Merrimans and Pineapple Grill. Great service, great food, great views. The Seahouse is very reasonably priced

Wonderful relaxing stay

Would recommend Sun, Jun 8, 2014
Great girls getaway. Beautiful grounds. Definitely need a rental car to get off the resort- explore Haleakala, drive to Hana, luau in Lahaina, shop on Wailea. Try some excursions- snorkeling on Molokini, helicopter ride. The beach is about a 5-10 mins walk down a path but there is a golf shuttle to take you there and back. Room was clean and comfortable, turn down service comes early around 6. The pool and beach service end at 5, but the pool and hot tubs are open 24 hrs. The pool service is not like that of the Four Seasons (Evian face water spritz, sunglasses being cleaned, complimentary fruit and smoothie etc) which is why I didn't give all 5 stars, but it was good. I ate at the sushi restaurant which was good with attentive service, but overpriced ie $20 for a roll. I also ate at the beachside restaurant which was good with fast efficient service- the Kahlua mud pie was yummy. There are beach lounge chairs on two separate grassy areas overlooking the beach- one is sunny the other has shade. You can't take lounges onto the beach itself. The resort fee is $30 a day and includes wifi. I liked the gym facilities, but some of the equipment is dated. I did a full day at Montage Spa at Kapulua Bay which was fabulous and is a must do- the gym is brand new, there's an outdoor infinity edge pool, hot tub, poolside service, steam room, sauna. I didn't use the spa at the Ritz and can't comment on it. You can't see the sunset well from the resort but you can see the sunrise over the West Maui mountains. There is a shuttle which will take you around Kapalua.

Dining

There are several places to eat off resort which are excellent- Lahaina Grill, Roys, Mama's Fish House, Merriman's- make reservations before your trip for the popular times around sunset. Good breakfast places- Gazebo (long line but moves quickly), Slappy Cakes- yummy! The resort is about 15 mins from Whalers village at Kaanapali Beach for shopping and other restaurant options. Enjoy your vacation and embrace the Aloha spirit

Ritz-Carlton

Would not recommend Thu, May 29, 2014
I for one was very disappointed in the Ritz. After having stayed in many Ritz-Carlton's in the world, this hotel does not rank well with them. I stayed in a Deluxe Room with Ocean View. The Bed was lumpy and uncomfortable, both my wife and I had backaches when we would get up in the morning. The furniture in the looked like something from the 70's. Amenities, Coffee and Tea in the room were undrinkable. No microwave, which is pretty common in today's rooms. Lots of noise in the hotel as construction crews were replacing windows and working on the plumbing. Pool was one of the bright spots. It was nice and staff was very friendly and helpful. Beach is too far from the Hotel and not really very nice. Food costs in the hotel were excessive, and 2 of the 5 restaurants were shut down 2 days a week each. If you don't have a rental car, you will have to depend on a shuttle to get you in to La Haina. Travel package was great in that they pick up the 30 dollar a day resort fee. but that did not stop them from trying to charge me anyways, until I pointed it out that it was paid for already. For me and my wife we will not stay again at this hotel again.
