Resort adds glam to Coconut Coast with fantasy pool and luxury condos
The beachfront resort spreads over 12.6 acres with a 300,000-gallon fantasy pool in the heart of it. Units range from hotel rooms to two-bedroom vacation condos, located in seven low-rise buildings across an expanse of manicured lawns dotted with pools, waterfalls and slender palms. Outrigger Waipouli Beach Resort opened in 2007 and has a decidedly upscale look and feel, exemplified by the use of exotic wood and imported stone in accommodations. The Building Industry Association of Hawaii recognized the resort as a Parade of Homes "standout."
Highlights
  • 300,000-gallon fantasy pool with meandering river and dual serpentine slides
  • Full-service Spa by the Sea
  • Complimentary wired Internet in every unit
Location

Centrally located on Kauai's east coast between Kapaa and Wailua, the Outrigger Waipouli Beach Resort is just a 40-minute drive to Princeville or Poipu, giving guests easy access to the north and south shores of Kauai.

Rooms
Condos at the Outrigger Waipouli Beach Resort have a distinctly upscale vibe created by rich Indonesian woods and Peruvian travertine accents. Granite countertops and top names in appliances in the full kitchens -- Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Fisher/Paykel, among them -- set a level of luxury and quality likely to appeal to discerning guests. Condos range from 898 to 1,853 square feet, giving families room to move. A few hotel rooms are also available, adding convenience for wedding parties and other groups traveling together. Maid service can be requested for a fee.
Features
Walk out onto Kauai's longest beach, a three-mile strand of creamy sand where vacationers can stroll or sun to the rhythms of the rolling Pacific. Among the amenities at the Outrigger Waipouli Beach Resort are a 4,000-square-foot spa where visitors and locals choose from a full menu of massages, facials and other indulgent treatments, and a restaurant with a focus on locally grown, organic produce and fresh fish (open happy hour and dinner only). A small fitness center open 24/7 keeps workout junkies happy. Guests who want to create their own local dishes can use grills on the property and shop for groceries just across the street.

Fantastic Getaway

We enjoyed our stay very much, except that I broke my toe while on the Na Pali coast tour - sea was very rough. We also went to the Waimea Canyon -- spectacularly beautiful! The condo was spacious and I loved the fact that we had indoor washer and dryer. We had dinner out in our patio a couple of times while enjoying the greenery, palm trees and a glimpse of the ocean beyond. We were on the first floor so we didn't have the spectacular view that those on floors above us had but I loved the scenery anyway. Only one thing, I felt the oversized bath tub should have been in the master bedroom (I took the master as being the one with the bigger bed and patio). We also felt that the DVD player should have been in the living area instead of in the 2nd. bedroom. But that's nitpicking. Kitchen was fully stocked with the proper utensils, etc. Great frig, stove, and dishwasher - all stainless steel. We were centrally located with a Safeway right across the street. The prices are a bit steep but there's a Foodmart about a block away. It might be a bit better. Breaking my toe put a bit of a damper on my trip but our condo was the best place I can recall staying at and, of course, Kauai is beautiful!

Fantastic place to stay!

Great location...plenty of places to eat and shop within walking distance. Two grocery stores are right across the street if you prefer cooking in your condo. Also, a good location for doing things on the island. Almost midway between the north shore and Waimea Canyon. Great rooms, spacious, and very clean. The pool is fantastic, especially great for families with children as there are two small water slides built into the pool. Great place to stay!

Awesome accomodations lacking location

The Outrigger Waipouli provide almost everything you need in their condos. They are well furnished with contemporary bedding and appliances. We felt right at home in our condo. Our view wasn't all that spectacular but we didn't want to upgrade since we didn't plan on spending much time in the condo. The pool is a lagoon type which we really enjoyed with waterfalls, a slide and sand bottom whirlpools. Very nice! The resort is in the East and most of the activities are in the North or South. It was nice to be in the middle at times but the weather in the East wasn't all that great and we wished we were in the South where is was sunny most of the time with awesome beaches. We enjoyed ziplining and our zodiac rafting tour. Highly recommended!!! Overall I recommend the Outrigger for the price and quality. If you don't mind a 30-40 minute drive you can pretty much get to anywhere you want to go.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

We thought we would save a lot of money buying our own groceries at the Safeway across the street. Boy were we suprised at the prices at the grocery store. $5 for a loaf of bread. If you have a membership card to Safeway or a grocery chain in Kauai bring it along! Saves a lot of money. Or eat at Subway!

Excellent choice...

It was very nice that they offered a courtesy suite to us to use after we had checked out. We had taken a day cruise with snorkeling and needed showers before the airport.

Great place to stay!

We were super-excited when we arrived at Waipouli Beach Resort, the room did not feel like a hotel at all. It felt like a mini-apartment. It was nicely decorated and had all the kitchen items you could want; there was even laundry detergent. We unpacked and went out to explore and were greeted by cockroaches when we got back. We alerted the front desk and they promptly moved our things. We attributed the pests to having the room right next to the dumpster. Our next room was just as nice and bug-free. Our stay was excellent after that. The pool is more family oriented with two water slides and is only 4 feet deep. The Tahitian Lanai (restaurant/bar) is located on the property and has live music in the evenings although the food and drink is not cheap;) This is a great place to stay because you can make trips to the North or South Shore fairly quickly. It is right across the street from a shopping center with a Safeway (groceries), Starbucks, Longs' Drugs, ABC Store, Subway, Panda Express, Cold Stone, and other little shops.

What a SURPRISE!

We were initially put off by the lack luster entry and [...]@ reception was a snob over his messy work area--Once we got to our room, we were VERY surprised! It reminded me of the Ritz Carlton in St Thomas: Plantation style, with heavy mahogony doors/moldings. Modern kitchen with all amenities. The pool looked great but we hung @the beach with our own private hut/lounge chairs where we would see maybe 5 people during our days of sunning. We will definately come back with the kids and rent a 2 bedroom--then we will hang out at the cool looking waterslides@the pool!

Great Family Getaway

The room itself was very nice, clean and spacious. The pool was great. The staff was friendly. There were a few locals at the pool on the weekend but they were not bothering anyone. We booked a partial ocean view room which was mostly a view of the parking lot. You could see the ocean if you leaned over the balcony. The view is not that important to us, though, and would definately stay again. Having a kitchen, washer and dryer was a definite plus. Safeway is right across the street which makes the location unbeatable.
