Budget-friendly hotel overlooks Wailua Beach on the Royal Coconut Coast
Easy on the budget, Kauai Sands Hotel is garden-style lodging overlooking the ocean on the east shore of Kauai. There are not a lot of frills here, but basic vacation needs are nicely met in 173 comfortable rooms decked out in casual island-style decor with air conditioning. The 6-acre property has two pools and puts guests steps from user-friendly Wailua Beach, where activities include swimming, snorkeling, sunning, surfing and boogie boarding. The hotel does not have its own restaurant, but the many eateries of Coconut Marketplace are close by.Highlights
- Steps from Wailua Beach
- Two swimming pools
- Budget-friendly accommodations
- Walking distance to Coconut Marketplace
- Internet access (fee applies)
Location
A central east coast location makes Kauai Sands Hotel a fine base for easy exploring north to Hanalei Town, Princeville and the Na Pali Coast and south to Poipu Beach Resort. Even the rugged western shore, with spectacular Waimea Canyon and Kokee State Park, is a doable day trip.Rooms
All rooms at Kauai Sands Hotel can accommodate up to three adults or two adults and two children. Basic amenities include both air conditioning and ceiling fans, a small refrigerator, balcony and tub and shower. All rooms have wireless Internet access (fee applies). Kauai Sands Hotel does not have adjoining rooms or cribs available, but families with young children can request a rollaway bed (fee applies).Features
Kauai Sands Hotel is a good choice for vacationers on a budget and those who plan to spend most of their time out and about in gorgeous Kauai rather than in a hotel room. The hotel is only a couple of miles from Wailua Golf Course, well under a mile from tranquil Wailua River and just a short walk to the 60-plus shops and restaurants at Coconut Marketplace. A small in-room refrigerator allows guests to have snacks, juice and breakfast items on hand, making it even easier to keep a vacation budget in check. And although many island accommodations, even the most luxurious, do not have air conditioning, Kauai Sands Hotel does.Transportation

Previous good reviews by others confirmed !!!
We were received at the .reception desk by very professional staff, who answered all our questions and made us feel very welcome by their quiet aloha spirit. which was reflected by all those we talked to. Yes the rooms are sixtyish in style, scrupulously clean and fresh, despite the need for a few more wall plugs. We were fairly close to stores and restuarants and enjoyed the whole experience. Really good value for the money

Not much Aloha spirit
The customer service was dismal. No Aloha. The room was worn out. Tile in bathroom dirty, pulling away from walls. Leftover tortilla chips on bathroom floor...not ours. Bed was so old you could feel the wire springs. Pillows were flat. Towels were thin from years of washing. Both pools were closed; coned off and cold. And no apology or explanation as to why it was closed. Electricity went out for awhile and one hotel maid joked that they didn't pay the electric bill. Actually, probably not a joke. Over all, not even worth the cheap price. Definitely made for good stories though!

what a dump
when we got to our room, there was garbage all over the place, beds unmade, etc. it was obvious the maid had not come. yet, we were sent to it anyway?! we called the front desk and they gave us another room but in a totally different building than we requested. the ice machine was broken, the window in our room was broken, the brick? that makes up the pathways all around the grounds is extremely slippery when wet, and both pools were closed. the front desk staff were the most unhelpful and unwelcoming i have ever encountered.

one night passing through
Friendly staff, clean rooms. Older hotel . . .obviously used to be something really great when it was new . . .we just stayed one night . . .and pretty much just slept and spent a couple hours in the morning there . . .but it certainly suited our needs and was the best price by far on the island. Kauai Palms in Lihue (2 nights) was the next closest for a good deal (20$ more) . . .nicer in some ways . . .but not as good for location.

Kauai Sands needs a revamping ASAP
We used the hotel primarily for sleeping and showering while we were out and about the island. The hotel is from the 50's and you could tell by the look of the exterior, lobby and room decor. If you don't care about status; come and stay here - oh and it was $60 bucks a night right on the beach with 2 swimming pools. Walking distance to Coconut Grove shops and farmers market

Uncomfortable get away!
Rooms have creaky double beds. Staff unhelpful when request made to change room. AC loud. No extra pillows really seemed to care less about their guests. Would never stay there again!
