We just finished up our 7 day trip to Kauai, and were very pleased with the staff and accommodations at the Pono Kai (Bluegreeen) Resort. The room was clean and well presented on our arrival. The full kitchen worked very well for our needs and we
were able to buy groceries from Costco and Big Save, to have most of our meals right there in the unit. Saved us lots of money over eating out. The resort is beachfront property. The pool and activities were great as well, and the kids were well entertained while we were not out exploring the island. It is a perfect location in relation to the island, being in the heart of Kapaa and about mid-point on the highway between Hanalei (north side) and Waimea (southwest side) of the island. Also, right across the street from the LDS Chapel. Our only complaint is that we were not offered a beachfront unit. Ours was on the street side. We could see the beach from our balcony, but there were about 6 other buildings that were closer than ours. It would have been nice to be right ON the beach. Maybe it can be requested, but we were never given the option. Not a big deal, as the beach was about a 2 minute walk from our unit. There are better beaches for swimming as well.

Short walk from hotel
About 2 blocks to the south is Big Save market. It seemed to have the best prices on groceries there in Kapaa, but if you can make the drive to Costco in Lihue, you can load up for the whole week. Avoid the Pacific Island Bistro chinese restaurant. It was terrible and overpriced.
