Strolling the beach and lounging poolside are pleasant ways to while away vacation days, and sunrise doesn't get much better. Grills are available for guests and the hotel rooms and one-bedroom suites offer home-away-from-home conveniences. The adjacent Coconut Marketplace has dozens of shops and restaurants.Highlights

- Walking distance to Coconut Marketplace
- Free in-room Internet access
- Complimentary parking
Location
Kauai's Coconut Coast is the most central and convenient for vacationers who want to explore all that the Garden Isle has to offer -- which is to say, a lot. Aston Islander on the Beach is located almost mid-way between Waimea Canyon to the west and the riveting cliffs and dramatic topography of the Na Pali coast to the north. Poipu Beach is about 15 miles southwest. The eastern shore has its own compelling sights, too. Peaceful Wailua River, Wailua Falls, and Kauai Backcountry Adventure's Lihue tubing are just a short drive away.Rooms
Teak furnishings, private lanais, air conditioning and free Internet access give accommodations an inviting island ambiance with contemporary appeal. Aston Islander on the Beach offers 198 units -- hotel rooms to one-bedroom suites -- in the low-rise, walk-up buildings set around the pleasant property.Features
The beach at Aston Islander on the Beach is perfect for strolling and sunning and the pool is a peaceful respite from the frenetic world. But sports, sights and restaurants are nearby, allowing guests to choose how to spend their time. Lydgate Beach Park, for example, draws swimmers and snorkelers of all ages to its protected, sandy lagoon, and nearby Wailua Golf Course was named by Golf Digest as one Hawaii's 15 best courses.Dining
There are no on-site restaurant but grills on property offer family cookouts. Guests can walk to restaurants at Coconut Marketplace.Transportation

Nice quiet location
We really liked this hotel and didn't want to leave. It was so quiet! All we heard in the morning were the birds and the waves (birds not chickens). We watched the whales from the balcony each morning from our oceanfront room. The pool was a little small but we didn't have much time to spend there anyway. Everyone was very nice and helpful. The grounds were very clean and well kept. The room was just what we needed, nothing fancy, but it was a great location to visit all parts of the island. It was right behind the coconut mrktplc which was handy for breakfast, lunch and dinner and a little shopping. There is a store that has a few grocery items if needed. They had outdoor grills you can use and a nice little bar. You can't swim on the beach there, but it was still nice to walk on or sunbathe. Would definately stay here again!

Short drive from hotel
The nearby luau was really a fun evening. The location, food and entertainment were really good. There are two or three grocery stores about 1 1/2 miles to the east of the hotel, plus shopping and a few restraunts.

Good value
Clean, comfortable bed, liked small fridg, microwave, sink and dishes. Beach not much, but like most others. BBQ available at poolside. Resort fee is simply an increased per day cost. Never used included DVD rental, used newspaper to catch sand from shoes. Missed carpeted floor, but understand about the sand from the beach

Good value on Kauai
Hotel located in a great spot and is a terrific value for families. The staff is very friendly and rooms are big. However, it clearly needs upgrading, especially bathrooms.

March at the Islander
We stayed at the Aston Islander on the Beach for 8 nights. Overall I would recommend this hotel. For the money you cannot beat this hotel. It is centrally located between the north and south shores. The hotel is older, but well kept. They do not have all the amenities you would find at a Hyatt, but who needs them. The rooms are equipped with a small kitchenette area that includes silverware, plates, bowls, knives, cutting boards, etc. This was nce to have as we ate at the hotel a few nights. I would recommend paying the extra money and getting an ocean front. It's not too much more money, and definitely worth it! I liked the fact the hotel was much quieter compared to your larger resorts. It was easy to kick back and relax!

Not that great!
This hotel was not that great. The room smelled very musty even after we turned on the air conditioner. The room cleanliness was also not great. I had to wipe down everything in the room since there was an inch of dust upon check in. They do have laundry facilities on site, however, they are very strict on when they open and close the room. They were down 1 washing machine and 2 dryers so you had to wait for machines. I had laundry in the dryer and was told to leave it so they could lock the door at 10pm. I would recommend staying in poipu for a much better experience. Better hotels and better restaraunts.

Fabulous Kauai Vacation
Great Resort even though no restaurant there. Great ones nearby, Trees and Hukilau, plus Coconut Marketplace Fish Hut and BBQ Hut. Sandi Kato the Resort Gen Mgr most accomodating, gracious host. Fabulous room (205) with direct ocean view overlooking the meticulously kept-up grounds and pool which has drink bar from 1:00pm to 9PM.

Money-saving tip:
Short drive from hotel
If you are a frequent shopper of Safeway(or their store affiliates)-bring your store card, any coupons, and perhaps get a gift card before you get to the island-Island prices are more expensive, but getting necessities there for breakfast, lunch, etc, can help you shave costs for what may already be a pricey visit to paradise
