Utterly relaxing condo haven on the east shore of Kauai
Vacationers looking for nice, affordable beachfront digs in one of the top locations on Kauai will find much to love at Aston Islander on the Beach. Low-key and peaceful, the resort sits on six landscaped acres along a strand of golden sand. Strolling the beach and lounging poolside are pleasant ways to while away vacation days, and sunrise doesn't get much better. Grills are available for guests and the hotel rooms and one-bedroom suites offer home-away-from-home conveniences. The adjacent Coconut Marketplace has dozens of shops and restaurants.
Highlights
  • Relaxed oceanfront setting
  • Walking distance to Coconut Marketplace
  • Free in-room Internet access

Location
Kauai's Coconut Coast is the most central and convenient for vacationers who want to explore all that the Garden Isle has to offer -- which is to say, a lot. Aston Islander on the Beach is located almost mid-way between Waimea Canyon to the west and the riveting cliffs and dramatic topography of the Na Pali coast to the north. Poipu Beach is about 15 miles southwest. The eastern shore has its own compelling sights, too. Peaceful Wailua River, Wailua Falls, and Kauai Backcountry Adventure's Lihue tubing are just a short drive away.
Rooms
Teak furnishings, private lanais, air conditioning and free Internet access give accommodations an inviting island ambiance with contemporary appeal. Aston Islander on the Beach offers 198 units -- hotel rooms to one-bedroom suites -- in the low-rise, walk-up buildings set around the pleasant property.
Features
The beach at Aston Islander on the Beach is perfect for strolling and sunning and the pool is a peaceful respite from the frenetic world. But sports, sights and restaurants are nearby, allowing guests to choose how to spend their time. Lydgate Beach Park, for example, draws swimmers and snorkelers of all ages to its protected, sandy lagoon, and nearby Wailua Golf Course was named by Golf Digest as one Hawaii's 15 best courses.
Dining
There are no on-site restaurant but grills on property offer family cookouts. Guests can walk to restaurants at Coconut Marketplace.

Perfect Location

My husband and I stayed for a week at the Islander. It is a very comfortable hotel in a central location. It is close to airport, and makes for an easy drive if you want to explore the north or south shore. It was great having the Coconut Marketplace very close with shopping and several dining options. We ate at TC's Island Grill several times during the week and loved it every time. I would highly recommend the ocean front rooms - awesome view! You can almost throw a stone into the waves. It was very convenient to have a microwave and refrigerator in the room. The staff was helpful and friendly. The only con was that the bed was on the firm side; I prefer a softer mattress. The Islander is highly recommended by us!

Great central location on the beach

Second time staying at this hotel. Clean rooms, friendly staff, great central location on the beach (great for sunrises). Only critique is the water is too rough to really swim or snorkel in right off the beach.

Going downhill

This hotel used to be pretty nice for the price. Now, the hotel is full of rude staff, housekeeping that doesn't actually clean, just replenishes items and soon will charge for every little thing. My husband and I agreed that this is our last visit to the Islander on the Beach. It's not terrible, but not great either. Location is central to things to do on the island which is a plus. If you are familiar with the Cocunut Market (a group of shops/places to eat) Most are closed now and only a handful of tourist items only places remain. The grounds are still maintained nicely and the sound of the ocean to lull you asleep is nice. Still...there are better places.

Beautiful, relaxed resort

This hotel had a very relaxed, casual atmosphere. It has beautiful, landscaped grounds and convenient location next to the Coconut Marketplace in the heartland of Kauai in the city of Kapaa on the eastern side. Centrally located to destinations on the North shore, Southern beaches and Waimea Canyon. There is some construction causing traffic backlog over the Wailua River bridge. It has convenient guest laundry facilities.
