Fantastic Honeymoon

Would recommend Sat, May 2, 2009
Absolutely wonderful. We had the time of our lives and this resort is one of the secrets of Oahu! Everything was perfect.

Dining

Dining is the only drawback; very expensive, but then what resort isn't? Drive to any of the nearby towns for more affordable options.

Relaxing getaway

Would recommend Sat, May 2, 2009
Great place for relaxing and doing absolutely nothing. Service was superb all around, and the food, although pricey, was excellent, (but that is to be expected in the islands). I traveled with a friend and we would often share a dinner meal plus order an appetizer or salad, which made eating more affordable. The mai tias were some of the best we've ever had. Very friendly staff. Both golf courses were in impeccable condition. The spa was also great and offered many treatment options. We would have liked more Hawaiian musicians and dancers or other entertainment options performing in the lounge areas.

Nightlife hint

No nightlife to speak of, but this made for a very quiet and restful experience.

Simply the best hotel ever

Would recommend Sat, May 2, 2009
What a wonderful place to stay and enjoy life again. Everything was perfect. It was a bit of a drive into Honolulu, but we could not wait to get back each neight. Great caring staff and the dining was thevery best. We did everything that we could physically do in the time we had. The polynesian Cultural center was fantasic. What and pleasure to visit and enjoy. The whole north shore was wonderful.

North Shore Slice of Heaven

Would recommend Mon, Apr 27, 2009
Loved the secluded location, it added to the romance of the experience. Staff members were very friendly and amenable, we were greeted by all staff even if they were just getting off shift and heading out the door. Our adjoining rooms were nicely sized and comfortable to our needs indoors. The hotel was beautiful inside and outside. Food was a little pricey. Can't wait to go back.

North Shore Location

Would recommend Sun, Apr 26, 2009
Unfortunately the windy cool weather made the trip less pleasant. We had to go to other parts of the Island to find the sun. Great location. Don't miss the Waimea Valley and Waimea beach. The construction on the access road to the hotel was an inconvenience. The resort fee should be added in to the quote on Orbitz. I checked and you had mentioned it but I missed it.

Dining

Dining options much better in nearby towns just a few minutes west from the hotel

Perfect for almost everyone

Would recommend Fri, Apr 24, 2009
First off, a little background, I have been everywhere, and the north shore of Hawaii is by far one of the most unique destinations we have found. The Turtle Bay is great for couples, sure, but families would be great too, there were tons of kids at the resort. One day a large group checked in on a business retreat, their conference rooms and facilities are huge...this place is great for everyone. The one thing we missed from some other resorts is nightly entertainment put on by the resort, and being on the north shore, you are pretty far away from the options in Honolulu/Waikiki...but that doesn't ruin it, this place is still fabulous to rest, relax, and drink a few! You do need to rent a car to get here, but its nice because it give you a chance to drive up and down the North Shore, which is an adventure in its own right. The resort is beautiful, the grounds are immaculate, the whole North Shore is picture perfect. The staff was great, for everything. The rooms are simple, but they are well kept for their age, and they felt great to me. Sure, everything at the resort is expensive for food and drinks, but you are in Hawaii, and on vacation, and its no more expensive than any other destination. Meals will run you about $20-$40 per person with a drink, but its good food and great service, with lots of dining options. If I didn't have a strict personal policy against going to the same place twice, this would be on my list of a must return destination. I loved every second of it.

Money saver

Foodland about 10 minutes in both directions from the hotel. The one in Lai'e didn't have beer, but the one in the other direction does, and there is a fridge in the room. Get some sandwich meat and a case of beer and save yourself some money on one meal a day and have a few beers before you head to the pool/beach.

Great Vacation Location

Would recommend Thu, Apr 23, 2009
This was the best vacation I have ever been on. Loved the location. You are only 10 miles from: Whale watching tours, shark dives, Polynesian Culture Center, resteraunts, waterfalls, snorkling, surfing, sea turtles, helicopter tours (on site). From our 5th floor balcony we could see the whales breaching the water. The rooms are a little out dated but who cares, your not spending that much time in the room anyway. You can go snorkling, surfing, horseback riding, swimming right there at the resort. They have several places to eat at the resort. Most are a bit pricy, but it's a vacation so unless you get a condo with a kitchen your going to spend money for food anyway. A vacation is what you make of it and this was the best one ever. This is a beautiful place to visit, and we hated to leave. Can't wait to get back, and we will stay here again.

Attractions

Shark dive at Hailewa Harbor was awsome!!! Be sure to eat breakfast at Jamesons by the sea.

Much Less Than Expected

Would not recommend Thu, Apr 23, 2009
On the plus side, the pool was wonderfully uncrowded (we visited during spring, when temperatures were cooler). Also, the on-site snorkeling cove was a lot of fun, especially if you got there before the general public took over all of the umbrellas. This is where the positives end. In contrast with the price, everything about this place screamed average. The rooms were very basic. Our promised "beach view" was 90% roof (complete with cigarette butts and trash) and 10% beach view (if you looked way to the right and through the palm trees). Self-parking was so overcrowded that people had to park along any available curb, whether it was an actual parking spot or not. Arriving back at the hotel past 4:00 or so meant a navigation nightmare and a long walk to our room. Our room offered several sales pitches, which seemed low class: If you like our generic coffee mugs you can have one for a Lincoln! If you like the grab-machine-quality stuffed animal that we place on your bed each morning you can keep it for a Jackson! Tacky, tacky, tacky. The hallway carpet was fraying, the sliding screens in the room were off of their tracks, the counters were chipped...the entire place needs a major renovation. I typically stay in lower-priced hotels when traveling (e.g. Best Western) so I assumed that the quality of Turtle Bay would impress me. Just the opposite - I would not stay here again, nor would I recommend it to anyone else.

Not so luxury....

Would not recommend Thu, Apr 23, 2009
The attention to detail is definitely overlooked from the cleanliness of public restrooms in the lobby to the dirty menus and brochures in your room. The hotel is older and the rooms show it. The walls and vents are extremely dirty. I didn't even want to take off my shoes! This is not my first trip to Hawaii, nor my last, however, I will never stay at Turtle Bay Resort again. The front desk employees are rude and are not helpful at all.
