Clean, Comfortable, Quiet, Practical, Convenient
So glad to find this Hotel. We travel a lot and our main requirements are to have a clean, comfortable and quiet place to sleep, as well as, a frig. , coffee maker and hair dryer. We were amazed at how quiet it was since our room faced the street (city side). The most noise we heard was from the a/c window unit and an occasional slamming of a door (wish others would be more considerate) but that's not the Hotels fault :) We had a kitchenette with a mini frig, microwave, coffee maker, dishes, etc. The TV had several channels, unlike other hotels. The only thing our room didn't have was a phone and alarm clock, but in this day and age, we use our cell phones. There was only a shower and no bathtub, not a big deal for us, but maybe for others. The water pressure was GREAT...nice hot showers. The pool was clean. Also, was in a great location...just a couple of blocks north of all the shopping and beach. There is limited parking for $25 per night and is somewhat difficult to park...and even though they assign you a stall...often times others park in your spot.. This is a non-smoking hotel, which is great, but for those who do smoke...it would be nice to have an area where you can sit down, instead of having to stand in the parking lot. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay at this hotel again.

Shopping tip:
Short drive from hotel
There is a Flea Market at the Aloha Stadium (close to Pearl Harbor) on Wednesday and Saturday (8:30 - 3pm ???) which only cost a dollar per person. They have many vendors that carry the same things that you would find in the souvenir shops, only at half the price. You can often buy T-Shirts 4 or 5 for $20. There is also sterling silver Hawaiian jewelry, lei's and shell necklaces, coconut purses, Hawaiian shirts and dresses, swim suites, Hawaiian wood carvings...you name it, they got it! You can even negotiate the price with some of the vendors, when purchasing a lot. Make sure to wear sunscreen and hat, as well as an umbrella, in order to block the sun or occasional rain shower, as there is not much shade since this is held outdoors in the parking lot. Happy shopping :)

For god's sake don't try to drive in Honolulu. The place is a nightmare. Taxis may be more expensive but are definately easier on the nerves.

A surprise Oasis
I stayed in this hotel because of the available kitchenette and the price of parking (less than most). However, they have since raised their parking fees but did honor the internet fee I saw posted. The kitchenette was only a 2-burner stove, the utensils a bit lacking (plus no soap or paper towels) and the frig a mini size good for only 1 person. The rooms need to be upgraded a bit in my opinion as they have an older-property feeling. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the feeling of warmth and relaxation at the facility. I was in a pool facing room on the ground floor and my patio was somewhat private due to the bamboo trees but I was facing the common patio and pool. It was the best location in the hotel in my view. Floors 2 or 3 would be good too but there is not elevator. Do not get away from the pool area or facing the street. It's not so pleasant. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly and there were maintenance personnel constantly working around the place. Plus they did have daily maid service. In summary, I would highly recommend this place due to it's location near Waikiki and the price. I spoke to the manager (Paul) and he advised that they are a recent Aqua property and were in the process of slowly upgrading the facility. It's an Oasis in the midst of the Waikiki jungle!

Short drive from hotel
Purchase in-room food at a Foodland located away from Waikiki. You would need a car but it's so much cheaper. Get the local loyalty card for discounts. You can use it also on the next trips.

The best hotel staff you will ever meet
Here is a mixed review... We have arrived to Whitesands way before check-in time but the room was ready and they let us check in early with no extra charge. we had a basic room... very basic no phone no flat screen tv no bells and whistles... but it was well taken care of, clean and facing a very cute pool. Sadly, we had some kind of a leak the second day we were there the carpet by the bathroom was getting to be some kind of a swamp... my partner and I went to the reception and asked if something could be done about that. they didn't have any open rooms that night but the security guard got a few towels and tried to get the water our as much as he could... very nice and respectful man actually kind of surprised me, and after all that because the room smelled he offered to watch our door if we wanted to sleep with the door open so that we could sleep safe. Thenext morning we went to do our own thing and didn't even think that something would be done about our room. we thought what can we expect from one of the cheapest hotels in the city? As soon as we got back from Hanauma Bay we were called up to the reception by one of the clerks and he was so apologetic and felt really bad we were told that the hotel will move our bags and make sure we got a better room and even gave us a pn upgrade to a room with a kitchen. not only that, they gave us a nice bottle of wine ... and to top it off one on the maintenance guys ran to an abc store and got a corkscrew so that we could actually have some of that wine. just super nice people ... Everyone that works there is just a five star service. all the rest of our stay every single time we walked by we were still greeted with genuine smiles and real aloha spirit. Loved White Sands Hotel. Inexpensive Clean Very helpful staff Genuine people Great location Parking yes Book this place and you are in for a pleasant surprise ! thank you for reading...

Island Time
I came to Hawaii to get certifications needed for my career. Trying to save money,I bought plane tickets that included my stay at White Sands. I couldn't have been happier! I never needed Marriott or Hyatt. White Sands is in Waikiki (more funkier than Honolulu) The staff are locals that are so pleasant! The man who runs the tours will be your BFF! His advice got me on the public transportation system which is rated the BEST in the US. Indeed it is! Got me back and forth to Neal Blaisdell Center every day. Everyone respects their elders and young people get up for elders to take their seat. (is that happening where you live?) You are living on 'island time' at White Sands! Cook 2 meals a day for your self. Staff take care of you. Even lend umbrealla's to you! I'd go back again and again...my style!

Worse experience of my life!
Do not book this hotel because you don't know where you will end up! The hotel overbooks all the time (they admitted it) meaning they will gladly take your reservation (and your money), then when you show up, they tell you they have no more room available. They will then send you to a "sister hotel", a horrible tower located in the busiest area of waikiki with no pool or hot tub. We were given a standard room (they refused to upgrade us) facing a parking structure. We were unable to sleep the whole night because of how loud it was. We did get a hint when we saw ear plugs in our room offered graciously by the hotel. After 2 horrible nights in the tower, they were kind enough to have us back in the hotel we had originally booked. They refused to refill our coffee each day stating that they only offer one pack per room per stay. How cheap! Bottom line, do not book this hotel if you don't want any last minute bad surprise!

White Sands - Affordable Comfort
At first, we were given a room with two beds which was shabby and with "odd" design (e.g. closet inside the bathroom). Next day we asked for a one-bed room and were switched to another building same morning. The staff is very friendly and responsive. The new room turned out to be very comfortable, with relatively new kitchenette (dishes, cooking pots, skillet were there so we could have breakfast in and save money). Each room has balcony so we used to sit there sipping wine and talking. Wonderful! The Waikiki beach is 12 min walk but a very pleasant walk along cute shops. The bus stop is 5 min walk. The facility has own laundry so don't have to bring a lot of cloth. We didn't use the pool preferring the ocean swimming but many people enjoyed the pool. Overall, we would stay again at the White Sands next Hawaii vacation.
