loved everything about this hotel....

The hotel was very nice for someone on a budget. Beautiful pool, friendly staff, nice bar and resturant, and computer room. Beautiful location by the Ala Wai. Did have some noise from sirens now and then, but think the city is cleaning up the riff raff and making it more accomadating and safe for us all. Would deffinately stay again and loved the staff and beautiful view of the Ala Wai and Diamond Head from room.

Friendly staff

Wanted to keep to a tight budget so looked for location, continental breakfast and fridge in room. Checked reviews and pictures. *** Can't depend on either! *Location not too bad as far as being close to beach- easily walkable to beach and museums, but on the edge of not so nice part of town- (female) wouldn't feel comfortable walking by myself at night. Not knowing the city- was not sure of location. Lots of trash and junk on sidewalks in area. And although there probably isn't ANY place in the city that is quiet- the windows did nothing to keep sound out. Very noisy. *Staff was very pleasant, helped with many questions about buses and directions, eager to make guest happy- they even switched rooms for us with no hesitation (because first assigned room was not very clean- carpet filthy and tacky- room very musty). *The rooms are small and need a good deal of heavy cleaning, some repair of tile, walls, etc... and a fresh coat of paint. No evidence of bugs. They always left clean towels, but did not replace used glasses in washroom. Plenty of storage space and hanging space. Small fridge did the job. Coffee maker in room but charge for coffee after the first night! Beds adequate, old, a little firm and had plastic mattress covers under thin sheet. Did have a balcony- but too small to really sit out on and furniture was dirty and uncomfortable, and if you sat down - couldn't see over rail. *Did feel plenty secure in hotel. *WikiWiki breakfast was toast, croissant, canned pineapple, juice and coffee. No decaf. Didn't eat at the restaurant- but selection looked pleasant and prices reasonable. Would probably not stay there again. I don't need luxury- but do need clean and comfortable. Another family member (same week) stayed at another hotel (booked on this site)for less and it was much nicer all around- area, room, amenities, also their room key gave free access to trolleys! Live and learn. Over all, it was not "horrible"- just not good.

Reasonable price for good location

Waikiki in general is a quite expensive area, so compared to other hotels, this hotel is a really good deal. It is quite cheap, the location is really good (just 5 min to Waikiki beach), really nice shopping mile just around the corner. We did not stay directly in the Waikiki Sand Villa Hotel but were accomadated in the Aloha Hotel just opposite which seems to be a little bit more modern than the Waikiki Sand Villa Hotel. The room in the Aloha hotel was really big, but not very clean (but bearable for a couple of days) and had a balcony as well. Oahu, in general, is not exactely the place to stay for longer: try to get away to one of the other islands as soon as possible,

good value

Hotel is in a good location with a short walk to the beach and easy access to roads in and out of Waikiki. The staff was courteous and friendly. The hotel has a pool which many in the area do not, so it was nice to take a dip in the evening. Shopping and restaurants were within short walking distance, so we took in the local sights and enjoyed the dining and shopping.

good choice for the price

It's a good hotel, not the best one though. Pretty well located (2 blocks from waikiki beach) and close to shops. Complimentary breakfast consisted in toasts, pineaple fruit and juice, tea and coffe everyday. There more things available for purchase (like cereals, but no milk at all).It was served 6:30am to 9am, and there was not much space to seat during that time. Many guest have to sit on computer desks for breakfast, since there were no enough tables. Wireless internet was slow, very slow. Rooms were spacious, w/ mini fridge and clean. The hot tub and swimming pool, were OK.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Walking from Sand villa to the beach on your right first corner there's a buffet place, good food and cheap price. Can't remember the name now, but good place to eat. Staff not very talkative, but good food. On the left hand corner also an ABC store, with some food, fruit, souvenirs... TRANSPORTATION HINT!!! From the airport you can take a suttle for $15 (that's what all information stands will tell you) BUT, much better choice if you travel only with carry on luggage is the CITY BUS. Lines 19 and 20 run from Airport to Waikiki for $2.25. Takes a bit longer but much more cheaper. Sand villa is only a block away from the bus stop.

I would stay here again!!

We had such a good time here. We loved the Bar and Grill that was located right by the check in area very good price and the food was really tasty. It was one of my favorite places to eat. Everywhere else we ate at was at least 4 to 5 dollars more a plate. Also it was really nice not to have to go to far after a long day of play. It's in walking distance of the beach and pretty much anything else you want. If you want to enjoy the beauty of hawaii though I would rent a car it so much prettier on the other side of the island which only takes about an hour to get to. Be prepared to spend 15 dollars a night for parking but I would still say it was worth it. The staff was very nice the rooms are older but pretty well keep up. If you are used to a 5 star hotel and won't settle for anything less don't come here. For the rest of the normal people in the world that need to go cheaper this is a great choice.

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

Go to the swap meet it is every wed, sat, sun, I do believe. They have the best prices and its huge lots of different stuff to pick from and its only one dollar to get in per person. Its at the aloha stadium I think you can even take a shuttle bus there I am not sure we had a rental car. Free parking.
