Room for Improvement

The best thing about this hotel is the friendly staff and the toilet seat warmer... Location isn't bad either. There are hidden fees everywhere! I can't believe they have the audacity to charge their guests $20 PER Day to park their rentals in the garage ... on top of an $80 deposit! The rooms are a little cramped but clean. Beds are not all that comfortable - Motel 6 quality mattresses - but the pillows are pretty fluffy. Free WI-FI - whoopee!

Do yourself a favor and walk to your destinations in Waikiki ... we walked to every area of interest within 2 miles - saves A LOT of money on parking and time on traffic, which can sometimes be tough to navigate if you're unfamiliar to the area.

Basic hotel on very good location

Location of this hotel is very good to explore Waikiki. The beach is within walking distance. Hotel needs better managment. Personel is obviously not happy, lots of discussions between staff. Included braekfast is just ridiculous and a ripoff. We didn't have electricity in the bathroom and We had to make complaints 3 times and it took 3 days before someone came to fix it. Room on the other hand was streetside and yet relatively calm with a nice terrace. Personel told us the lease for the building was ending and so the owner was just trying to make as much money as possible for the time the lease was running. This was showing...

In general OK, but expect better

Location is good, staff are friendly and helpful. The complimentary breakfast is below average: just toast, orange juice and canned pineapple pieces. Valet parking is $20/night. Rooms not in the tower are near the pool, expects big noise if there is a party or energetic kids. Rooms are not very clean. If you think the location (close to wakiki) is very important, it is an acceptable choice.

A good place

The hotel is an older establishment on the AliWai Canal which is an excellant place for walking. It is close to the beach . It has a very nice bar/restaurant with a very friendly casual atmosphere. This a very Energy saving hotel your room card is required for electrical power , the comode is a high tech unit which ideally would not require toilet paper. The pool area is so very peaceful and beautiful. You have free wireless access and their is also a computer room you may use as well as an excercise facility and hot tub. It is an old hotel nothing fancy , it could use updating and remoldeling but if your main needs are a place to sleep after you have done your adventures , it is good. Yes, the free breakfast was mainly, toast and pineapple, after the first day they did not replenish the in-room coffee materials you had to purchase them. I would return to this place!

Plan ahead if you want to rent a car. Reserve one in advance for the days you would use it ,as parking it is about 20 dollars a day and parking areas are mininmal and traffic is extremely heavy. On a whim we tried to rent for a day and could find none availible.

The location was perfect for our needs. We wanted to be walking distance to Waikiki but not spend much. We had a very nice clean, small but comfortable room. The blacony had a fantastic view. We went down to the bar for a drink shortly after we arrived and it was just fine for a quick relaxing drink before bed. Breakfast we looked at but couldn't get ourselves to partake. Looked like juice, white bread toast and a few pieces of canned pineapple in a small cup (in Hawaii we expected fresh fruit). We would stay again.

You get what you pay for

Great location: 3 blocks from the beach. Great price: under a hundred a night. Everything else: lousy. My wife and I were in Waikiki for our 5 year anniversary. We didn't expect top notch amenities. We were there for the surf and sand. Our biggest complaint was the noise. We didn't mind a little noise, I'm sure we were making some ourselves, but the walls seemed to be paper-thin. We woke up several times a night from ice machines, conversations and sirens that seemed to be on a constant rotation in front of the hotel. I think we'll pony up the extra twenty a night and stay somewhere a little more modern.

Great Deal!

Perfectly adequate room, friendly staff and plentiful amenities. The rooms leave something to be desired, but hey, you're in Hawaii, you're probably not going to be spending that much time in your room. The beds are ok, and the maid service is great. The one major drawback to the room is the lack of soundproofing in the door/wall to the hallway, as we were woken up every morning around 6am to the sounds of other guests talking in the hallway. You can also rent beach towels here as well, so no need to pad your luggage with bulky beach towels! You rent them for the day, return them, and come back the next day for fresh, clean towels! I would skip the free breakfast though, unless you're looking for something to snack on before your real breakfast, as it consists of toast, canned pineapple and coffee. However, there is also a downstairs bar open from 9am to 4am with moderately priced (read: cheap in Waikiki) food and drinks and 2 happy hours- awesome!

Hotel stay at the Waikiki Sands Villa

First of all there were hidden fees that we hadn't planned on like a hotel deposit and another fee to park your vehicle on the primisses. The room had a strange odor that aggrivated my sinuses, a double bed instead of queen and a who sleeps in a twin bed anyway. The double bed made rest very unpleasant and we didn't want to separate and sleep in a twin bed. WHO WOULD????? There was no hand soap, but a dispencer, the towels were hard, the only way to keep the air on was to leave the keycard in a slot next to the thermometer and the water from the overhead vent leaked on our head. The staff was accomodating and friendly but people should know these things and I did leave a review for the hotel.
