Not bad

This hotel was fairly close to the Waikiki Beach area-easily within walking distance. The front desk people were helpful and quick when checking in. The only thing we missed was access to internet in our room. The business center was busy and there were limited computers (only 4). Never had a problem with the valet parking. They were all very friendly and always present when they were open. The $18.99 + tax cost was comparative to other places located in that area. Overall a pretty good experience.

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

The quickest way to Waikiki beach from the hotel was thru the park - which we discovered on the last day. The park was nice and in the morning there were many people jogging and doing yoga. There were plenty of sidewalks to avoid congestion and even some stations along the way to wash the sand off your feet.

Great value and location

We stayed at the Gateway Waikiki hotel for a week in early February and had a great time. The hotel is right by the main retail center and near coffee shops and restaurants. The beach is only a 5 minute walk away. We particularly liked the beach near this hotel because it was quieter and less crowded. The room was decent, didn't have any major problems, but it was a bit small. Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nice, affordable place to stay in Waikiki.

Waikiki Gateway

Hotel is old, not particularly clean, SMALL, and clearly designed for the Japanese clientele. Location is good, food is terrible in the morning breakfast buffet. Entry is the nicest pareat of the place, except for locatiopn, which is good. Car parking is a huge hassle and would be impossible were it not for the empty building across the street which offers underground parkking at $15 a night and has some bizarre practices. Overall, I wouldn't stay there again.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

Don't rent a car in Honolulu. In fact, dopn't stay in Honolulu. It's really just a huge rip-off center aimed at it's main business client, the tourist. GO anywhere else. In Honolulu you'll be constantly subjected to rip-offs of every possible kind.

Unbeatable price for location

Was on vacation to explore the possibilities of moving to Hawaii. So it was nice to have a central hotel location...parking was another story and found it not necessary to have a rental car...parking every night in the hotel garage was $20 a night or you were looking for street parking forever. Awesome view from the 12th floor....excellent location for dining, nightlife, dining and of course morning coffee.

Quick staycation

The boyfriend and I wanted to do a quick evening in Waikiki without commuting back to our families home. We dined and shopped at Waikiki and had a nice rest back at the room. Valet prices is a bit high but we parked at the post Office overnight for a couple of bucks. Other than that we enjoyed our stay.

No free WiFi, holes in walls & critters

If you truly just need a place to crash for the night & care nothing about how clean a room, this is it. They advertise free Internet, but actually charge $5 per day for WiFi. Their real free internet is a small shared 'business center' on the 3rd floor. There were exposed pipes in the ceiling of our room & the bathroom was awful. The bathroom looked like it was directly out of a ghetto apartment. Missing tiles & an occasional insect visitor. Most the staff was friendly except for a front desk lady who when I asked to have a cab called, she pointed me to the closest yellow pages & said we dont offer that service. The location is ok, right at the south end of the Waikiki shopping strip & .5 miles from the beach. Just remember, for this economy hotel, you truly get what you pay for! You have been warned!
