Great Family Vacation

The Royal Hawaiian was excellent overall! The location was perfect right in the center of Waikiki, the staff was very friendly and provided great service, the hotel itself was very well kept. The kids pool was fun and hotel right on the beach. The only negative was that they had us in a Smoking King room and couldn't get us a NS King and we ended up with NS double beds and the mattresses were not good. I had a backache all week. Other than that, we loved our vacation and my 3 1/2 yr old wants to know when we're going back!

Royal Hawaiian Hotel

The hotel room was nice but not outstanding. The view from the balcony was outstanding. The room would be much better if we would have had a couple of comfortable chairs to sit in and a microwave would have been very nice to have. We were there on super bowl Sunday and were out of the room all morning and part of the early afternoon and had no room service while we were gone. The maid came in to service the room while the super bowl was going on. Not good. The hotel itself was very, very nice and all the hotel personal were very helpful and friendly. We still have no idea what the daily room charge was all about.

Good Location

Good hotel with great location on the beach. Expected a little more (5 star). Actually will go back to the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach, which offers similar experience without all the "extra" fees. I am a SPG member and this still didn't get me the extras without additional charges. Grounds were beautiful and probably one of the best locations on the beach for a wedding.

Beautiful but not Royal Hawaiian

A beautiful classic hotel with attentive service. Awesome breakfast with a great location on the beach. However the rooms were small and not well appointed. Certainly not by 5 star standards. Prices were high but not unexpected. The bar serves an outstanding Mai Tai.

"Pink Palace Doesn't Disappoint"

The ambiance at The Royal Hawaiian is unmatched. The many sitting areas throughout the hotel, as well as our room, were beautifully decorated in historic Hawaiian charm...no flowered bedspreads here! Understated elegance. The one pool on the property is more geared for adults, but RH guests have access to the family pool at the neighboring Sheraton, so everyone is happy. The roped-off beachfront area is great, with complimentary lounge chairs and umbrellas. Neighboring hotels either have little or no beachfront, or guest have to rent the chairs and umbrellas. Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center is a few feet away, with The Cheesecake Factory and some nice shops. California Pizza Kitchen is across the street. Great location; great hotel.

Time-saving tip: In Hotel

The RH has a suite for guests checking out later in the day, after the 12 noon check out. We spent our last day at the beach, checked our bags with the Bell Desk and came back to the suite, complete with a shower, bathroom, tv, sitting area, desk and telephone available for all guests. At any given time, there was only 1 other family in there. This suite made those last few hours in paradise much more convenient.

Beautiful hotel....and we live here!

Outstanding service....beginning with the valets. Checkin easy and access to room straight forward. Only downside was the limited elevator service, played the waiting game for only a 6 story hotel. Took exit stairway onetime with 4 bags and still beat my wife downstairs.

Honolulu Getaway

First time visitor to this property located in a central location in Waikiki. Staff is very attentive and the property is clean and inviting. Close to upscale shopping, restaurants and activities not to mention it's on the beach. I would go back to this property. The pink hotel!

Explore cheaper restaurants close to property for better value and just as nice a view, for example, LuLu's in Waikiki.

Royal Hawaiian - Nov. 2009

Was upgraded to a full-suite at no additional charge. My little girl had a great time just running around our room --very happy with that. Upgraded televisions very nice. Walls were a bit thin as we could hear other guests talking around 1 AM. Generally friendly and professional staff. Were some exceptions though. However service was poor at the Surf Lanai restaurant. Staff seemed disinterested and unfriendly. Client service desk also seemed more like telephone operators than a service desk; after I explained I wanted to get a bell boy to get my bags and have the valet bring the car around, the desk person told me to repeat my request after they transferred me to the valet station. A little more is expected at a luxury hotel.

"The name says it all"

There is not a way to enter or leave this classic hotel without feeling you are somewhere special. Beautiful property! Great beach location with nice area just for hotel guests. Good place for adults as the best things this hotel has to offer would probably not be appreciated by children.

ONO Hawaiian Foods-Local cuisine. Leonard's Bakery-famous for Malsadas, but try the portuguese sausage wrapped in sweet bread. Don't forget about grocery stores. Gives some local flavor. Go to the deli dept and try Poke it is a raw fish salad served as an appetizer. It doesn't get anymore local!
