Many wonderful restaurants to choose from for dining. We can't find the Royal Hawaii hotel because it was hiding behind the Sheraton Hotel. I will stay there again.

The Royal Hawaiian is the best!

I know how import reviews and feedback are to fellow travelers, I value this greatly myself. So I will be very honest and specific. The Royal Hawaiian is really the only place to stay in Honolulu. Get an ocean front room in the historic part of the hotel ONLY. Yes, you get a balcony in the newer side, but it's not worth it and the rooms have not been refurbished with the same charm. If you can not afford it, wait until you can. Not worth staying anywhere else. Why? Because you're in Hawaii!!! You don't want a hotel room that looks like every other room in the USA. The Moana Surf Rider is nice too, but not as special as the RH. With check-in you are served a special drink with flower lei greeting. Delicious banana bread and pink bath robes with slippers await in your room. Cushy bath towels and FINE toiletries in the bath room. Opulence in every nook and cranny of this hotel. i Could go on forever! I have stayed in many luxury hotels, but this is the best by far! You will see some bad feedback about the pool size and small bathrooms. Probably not conducive for families with a lot of kids, (we brought our teen daughter) but as a RH guest you have Sheraton priviledges also. They have a big pool for kids. Definitely the best beach services. No charge for lounge chairs, pink umbrellas and pink beach towels. Don't listen to the comments about availability. We traveled in July 2010, the facilities and cabanas were always vacant in the afternoon and evenings. The maid service is most excellent. Tip your maid daily ($5.00) and she will be your best friend with lots of extra TLC. Dukes is great for breakfast, only $14.00 for a buffet. Please be advised about fine dinning in Honolulu. We tried them ALL, sad to say they are ALL over rated and terribly expensive. Stay with what you know like, PF Changs, Cheese Cake Factory, etc. Splurge on cocktails and apps on the beach. Best places for this are the Moana Surf Rider, The Royal Hawaiian Mai Tai Bar (my favorite, get the burger too) and the bar at the Sheraton. Great music at all these locations. See below for luau review. For families that need sandwiches, anywhere you go you will pay $10.00 for a terrible sandwich. Look for the side alley found in the Outrigger hotel by the laundry facilities. Still a terrible sandwich, but only $5.00 and lots of snacks to-go. To see turtles on Waikiki beach...take a swim very late afternoon, evening. Swim out about 50 yards, line up with the Outrigger Hotel towers. Below you will see a small coral reef. They hang out there to eat. We saw them every night. They swim right up to you, eyeball to eyeball, it's such a kick! Most do the Pearl Harbor excursion, the USS Missouri, the air museum at Hickam, Kualoa ranch and snorkel with the dolphins catamaran trip (we did not see dolphins, no worries, still a great trip) The rainforest hike was fun, but please be advised the waterfall is nothing special, more like a trickle of water:). You freeze your buns off with the bus rides to these excursions, so bring something warm. Earplugs too, the drivers talk excessively, about nothing, trying to work their tip:) In closing, I would like to say the Royal Hawaiian is truly royal! Although it is located on the beach, it still feels like a quiet oasis compared to the other luxury nearby hotels. You will feel like you live in a palace. The staff even makes it special when you say goodbye. They take farewell pictures in front of the hotel, tuck you into your cab and wave goodbye like you are family and will see you again soon. Hope you have a magical stay at the RH too! Yes, it is expensive, but money well spent. [...] Check the RH sales EVERY day. Usually they post on Wed/Thurs. Our trip was $1,300.00 per person with air/ocean front room/SFO/July 2010. Very do-able. God Bless!

Dining tip: In Hotel

Try the burgers and Mai tai's at the Mai Tai Bar on the beach. Fantastic!!! The other apps offered are fabulous too, but very expensive and hard to make a meal. Pass on the luau if they have it inside because of weather conditions. Trust me, it's not worth the huge ticket price. Outside would be spectacular, I'm sure. Azure is over rated. Proceed with caution on any fine dinning in honolulu.

The Pink Palace of Waikiki

This was our second trip to the Royal Hawaiian, and we could hardly wait to return. Tucked away in the commercial hub-bub that Waikiki has become, is this spacious, graceful gem. With its spreading and calming lawns fringed by tropical gardens and royal palms that seem to hide and protect you from the rush, The Royal has been able to maintain its 5 star genteel quality. Here is a tip: Pass on the very pricey ocean view rooms. Instead, take a quiet room overlooking the tropical gardens, we prefer the first floor. Spend your days on the private beach and in the warm aqua water, but retire to the quiet of the garden rooms. We purchased a package, air and hotel[...]. The Royal immediately upgraded us to a larger room and threw in breakfast everyday, and we never even asked. I think I had eggs benedict three times, after the fresh pineapple, of course.Look for Lucia in the Surf Room when you go in for breakfast and give her a hug for us.We hope to make The Royal Hawaiian an annual event.

Simply the best hotel on Waikiki. Incredible service, excellent location for everything, yet still very secluded in it's own way. Would highly recommend.

hawaii, my family fall in love

we're staying at royal hawaiian jr.suite. it is end of the hall. not that expensive -special rate. my daughter always happy to run with me. it is clean and quiet, first calss svc, very large, 4 times larger than regular room. pool is very small, but you can use sheraton waikiki pool that is big enough. royal doesn't have seefood buffet, we ate at sheraton. it looks like sheraton has everything, but they are very busy and small rooms. relax and luxury will be royal. in front of royal hawaiian ocean doens't have stones only, but other hotels have. you can walk more than 1 miles from the sand to ocean without stones. safe for kids, too.
