Waikiki’s beachfront Gold Coast getaway

Cradled between Diamond Head Crater, Kapiolani Park and the sparkling sea, the boutique Kaimana is one of the few hotels on Waikiki's exclusive Gold Coast. Although less than a mile from central Waikiki, the area offers the peace and tranquility of neighborhood Hawaii and one of Waikiki's most stylish stretches of sand. The hotel's signature open-air Island restaurant, the Hau Tree Lanai, is a longtime favorite of residents. Book an oceanfront room and marvel at the seascape before you.

Dining

The Kaimana's signature restaurant is the Hau Tree Lanai, a beachfront outdoor patio beneath a historic native hau tree. Island dishes are served breakfast through dinner, with special emphasis on local ingredients and preparations. Upstairs and offering a remarkable ocean view is Miyako, a Japanese restaurant that attracts many of the hotel's Japanese guests. The Sunset Lanai Lounge is perfect for a drink and appetizer.

Rooms

Room décor is muted and simple in hints of rattan and floral, with wall-to-wall glass doors leading to private balconies. All rooms include complimentary Wi-Fi. Book within the main wing of the hotel, where an oceanfront room delivers a multi-hued panorama in virtual 3-D effect. At the open-air lobby, take advantage of valet-only parking (fees apply) and 24-desk service.

Location

The Gold Coast is an exclusive residential enclave marking the eastern end of Waikiki. Framed by sea, sky and parkland greenery, it's one of Honolulu's most coveted addresses. Only three hotels have locked in this location, and only the Kaimana has a beachfront setting. Reach Central Waikiki by foot in about 15 minutes along the beach park walk. Both the city bus and the Waikiki Trolley stop near the hotel.

Highlights
  • Rejuvenate in a residential beachfront sanctuary on the preferred end of Waikiki
  • Enjoy the natural surroundings, including 200 acres of park and hidden beaches
  • Delight in the petite, open-air charm of the Kaimana, a rare gem in Waikiki
Recreation

  • Bird watching in Kapiolani Park and winter whale watching from Diamond Head Rd.
  • Swimming and snorkeling in front of the hotel
  • Onsite Jujube Salon and Clinic

Fees may apply.

Economical Beach Getaway for one or two

I stayed here for business, small but clean room. Close to beach, friendly staff, view was perpendicular to beach but was ok for the money. Beach was good if you don't want waves and want to wade.

Grossly overpriced , not worth half what I paid

As a first-time Hawaii visitor, I didn't know the lay of the land and this hotel, but the website looked nice. As it turns out, this hotel is buried at the end of the Waikiki strip, surrounded by nothing (read: there is a park and aquarium, but no nearby restaurants and limited public transportation). As soon as I arrived in Hawaii and saw the hotel (we stayed elsewhere our first few nights), I wanted to cancel, but it was too late. I do not like large resorts, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend the one of the jumbo properties, but I would discourage anyone from this hotel. $300 a night with no coffee maker, mold on the shower head that I cleaned before bathing, a leaky tub, and an on-site restaurant that charged $18 for an omelet. Nothing about this hotel strikes me as three star and I would not recommend it to anyone, at least not for a price above $99 a night. Perhaps I got ripped off by the travel website I used, since I can't imagine people pay this much to stay at this property. I'm very disappointed.

GREAT LOCATION. AWAY FROM THE BUSTLE OF WAIKIKI

The location was terrific. About a mile away from the hustle of Waikiki, yet central enough to get to everything quickly. The ocean side rooms are great with good views of Honolulu and Kaimano beach is steps away. Other than the beach the hotel does not offer much and the restaurant ws pretty expensive.

New Otani - Oahu

Room was small and needs to be upgraded. Staff very friendly and helpful. Location is very good - at the park and near Diamondhead. Restaurant is very good. Overall rating is good to very good based upon the price. Out of the way of all the insanity in Waikiki.

Great locatiob but needs fluff

Overall it was a pretty good choice. The room was small but very nice & since we only slept there it was fine. The view from the balcony was GREAT. Location was near just about everything without being directly "in" the busy area. The only downside was the bedding. The mattress was not too bad but it could have been more comfortable especially for the nightly fee but the pillows were awful. You could tell they were old & we both woke with stiff necks & headaches. asked for different ones but they weren't any better. Overall, I would stay there again but bring my own pillow.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

The Aquarium is worth it. With in a short walk & inexpensive, takes 1.5-2 hrs. The Circle Island Tour with Robert's Hawaii is a great way to see the island & is full day with pickup @ the hotel. Think about renting a car the day after the tour to re-visit or see sites you didn't have enough time at. Turtle Beach if you want to see live Sea Turtles.

Old Hawaii Paradise

We booked a park view room but was given an option to upgrade to an ocean view for $30. Boy was it worth it, hubby said best view in 30 years of island travel! Hotel is on the nicest beach just outside of Waikiki proper - no pool, natural surroundings and minimal neighborhood noises - a big change from the Hilton Hawaiian Village where we were earlier. That said if you crave loud bars, complex pools, proximity to nightlife and restaurants, this is probably not for you. Hau Tree and Miyako restaurant pricey but yummy. Park free outside the hotel but mind posted signs re:restrictions.
