Hawaii Trip
We were a little apprehensive at first, after booking our rooms. We were reading online some opinions of others about the Princess Kiaulani Hotel. I'm not sure where they were staying. I can only talk about our experience. We were met at our car and our luggage was taken right to our rooms as we checked in. Everyone was so kind and welcoming, which meant so much to us as we were very tired from our long flight. A basket full of fresh fruit and candy was delivered to our rooms from the hotel. (Perfect) Everyone remarked how comfortable their beds were. The sheets were just right as I am very fussy about my bed sheets. The view from our balcony was just beautiful. The ocean one side, the mountains the other and even views of the city, oh yes, we had it all. We were close to everything: shopping, restaurants, beach, shows, ect. We attended 2 luaus, went parasailing, snorkling, road trip to see the blow hole where they were filming Hawaii 5-O. We saw the Valley of the Temples, Diamond Head, the Dole Plantation, the North Shore, Laniakea where we were able to see the large sea turtles as they came upon the beach or swam in the beautiful blue waters. We went to Pali Lookout for some great pictures and the Museum of Father Damien of Molokai (now Saint Damien). We were able to attend a beautiful Hawaiian Mass at St. Augustine by the Sea which was only 3 blocks down from the Princess Kaiulani Hotel. Yes, it is in the middle of everything. We were able to relax on the beautiful lanai and listen to the wonderful entertainment by the pool bar. I also read someone they thought the pool was very small. Not at all. The pool was great with lots of places to sit or lay. Though the water was warm we spent our time at the beach surfing and paddle boarding where a hotel attendent brought us all fresh cold fruit and choice of cold bottled water along with towels and chairs. We have already recommended this great hotel to our friends. They are already making plans for next year at the Princess Kaiulani. We have stayed at hotels from Canada, the Bahamas, Florida, Texas all along the east coast, some were even gated. This hotel rates right up there at the top. Our family and friends are talking about going back already and making plans. Thank you so much! The Princess gave us great memories. The Porter Family P.S. We even named our picture disks Hawaii 1 (meaning we will be making a second trip for Hawaii 2)

Some people may think some of the restaurants are a little pricey but after attending one, we found the best way was to order one meal and a 'pupu' (appetizer) as you are served so much food. Even ordering a 'pupu' and one meal to split there was still left over food. If you can eat a lot check out all the deals online. They are great. Our family eats very healthy and there was a wide variety of healthy foods to be found.

Great Location
This was my 5th visit to Waikiki so already had a good idea about the hotel (especially location which is great) I had initially intended to stay at a hotel ON the beach, but as I couldn't book until quite late, the prices had gone through the roof and the PK (as it is known locally) had a far better price suited to my budget. I still wanted something 'nice' as it would be my Girlfriends first visit. The hotel is in two sections, the main building where the lobby and facilities are and a separate tower (but still feels like its in the same building as the elevator is under the same roof..... When we arrived after 26 hours of travelling from the UK, we just wanted to check in and get to the room, so we did just that. The first thing that hit me was the smell of stale tobacco upon leaving the elevator on the 21st floor but luckily our room (2169) did not smell of tobacco.... If I am honest I was a little disappointed by the room at first, but I guess that is because i have seen better in Waikiki.... but it was still clean and quiet which is the most important to me. The bed was HUGE and VERY comfy. Shower OK, not great but did the job. As part of the hotel 'resort fee' of $12.00 per day (which I had forgotten about !) we got two small bottle of water per day FREE PARKING (self) very rare in Waikiki, 60mins of LONG DISTANCE calls per day (awesome!!) High Speed (wired) internet. Othere things too but these were the most relevant to us. The fire alarm went off at 5 am during our stay and there were people in the lobby asking what was going on and lots of confusion - I thought an explanation/apology by way of a note under the door would have been good but not a big deal. We had a voucher for for a half price breakfast if bought with a full price one - we had breakfast once in the hotel and weren't very impressed - I suggest Dukes (see elsewhere on TA) it has a great buffet for a lower price. Pool was ok, quite a lot of kids at times but not too bad and always got a lounger ok, there is also a bar near the pool, but we took our own drinks to the pool on the few occasions we used the pool (not sure if permitted, but never saw any signs) Overall a very good hotel and I would certainly recommend you check it out Room Tip: Try a room as high up as possible and ask for non smoking

The location was perfect! Only a 3 minute walk to the beach. The room wasn't the best but all we did was sleep there the staff were all fantastic and for the price you can't get much better. The show creation in the hotel was awesome as well.

Location, location, location! The SPK has it all! We never rented a car or took public transportation! World class Waikiki Beach, restaurants, shopping, and entertainment just a stroll away! Book the tower upgrade... the view of Diamond Head and Waikiki Beach is breathtaking! We especially enjoyed the nightly hawaiian music. The breakfast buffet at the Pikake Terrace was outstanding! We stayed here in 2004, now in 2011, and WILL definitely return!

The international market is a souvenier attraction. Whatever the asking price is for an item, feel free to make a lower offer. The store owner will negotiate, maybe as much as 1/3 of the original price!!

location can't be beat!
i have stayed at this hotel several times before and had been underwhelmed. the public places were almost grand but have too much people traffic. on our recent stay, we were given a larger room which accommodated a roll-away bed which was nice. the room faced the pool and noise level at night was quite high due to the loud bands with hula shows. other than that, the location can't be beat. the beach is just a block away and the international marketplace which is a large swapmeet by the beach type of shopping is right next door. shopping and fine dining places were within walking distance. i would recommend this hotel to everyone and we will certainly be back given the fantastic location and reasonable price.

a little disappointed
A little disappointed...the room was quite small and not as welcoming as depicted online; the safe in the room didn't work and when we asked to move to another room instead of wait for the repair technician, we were told to use the safe at the front desk - had to spend a couple of hours to wait; three front desk staff members that we dealt with were not very nice at all...could not even say hello or thank you; and bathroom had a dingy smell. On the other hand, some of the staff members like the garage attendant, pool-side attendant handing out the towels, a couple of the housekeeping members - they made us feel appreciated.

Incredible Value
This hotel was clean, comfortable and in the middle of Waikiki. It was an unbelievable vailue in relationship to anything else in the area. I highly recommend checking it out to anyone traveling to Waikiki. Only thing I did not like the lack of a breakfast restaurant at the hotel other than its breakfast buffet. Personally, I do not like buffets and am a light eater.

Rent a car and be sure to take in the north shore beaches a couple of times. The shave ice and shopping up north is more enjoyable and the beaches more beautiful! The parking fees at the hotel are so reasonable in wrapped into its one-time resort fee that it is very worthwhile and easy.
