Updated island-style hotel next to the beach and zoo

Queen Kapiolani is a value-priced hotel under new ownership. A total overhaul of rooms and common areas is scheduled for completion by the end of 2010. Enjoy killer views from east-facing rooms and a location ideal for exploration. Find the Honolulu Zoo across the street and the best stretch of sand on Waikiki Beach. Despite renovations, the hotel plans to keep the atmospheric paintings of Hawaiian royalty that have graced the lobby and celebrated the hotel's namesake since the early days.

Highlights
  • Views of zoo animals from private balconies
  • Experience eastern Waikiki's natural beauty, including bird watching in Kapiolani Park
  • Waikiki's best stretch of beach is less than a 2-minute stroll from the hotel
Location

The hotel boasts one of the best locations in Waikiki, across from the Honolulu Zoo and half a block from the beach, shopping and dining along Kalakaua Avenue. The Waikiki Aquarium is a 5-minute walk from the hotel. Find festivals and exciting weekend events at Kapiolani Park, located one block from the hotel.

Rooms

Choose from 19 floors of standard or deluxe rooms with a renovation completion date of December 2010. Book an east-facing room on a higher floor for Diamond Head, park and ocean views. Most rooms have balconies and all rooms feature air conditioning, free daily newspaper, high-speed Internet (fees apply), safe and refrigerator.

Dining

The modest-priced Garden Lanai restaurant currently serves breakfast, but will reopen for all meals upon renovation completion. Located next to the hotel, Teddy's Bigger Burgers is one of Honolulu's favorite burger-and-shake hangouts. The 50s-style diner serves custom-order creative burgers and a variety of shakes and malts.

close to beach!

The tradewinds blew so badly through this corner room, I had to leave my door open with a towel.! Security even was worried.

Great first trip to Hawaii

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the Queen Kapiolani. The room was fantastic for the price that we paid. The location was excellent close to everything that was fun! We would definately stay there again. A very good selection of eateries and clubs within just steps or a few blocks away. We pretty much walked to everything we did.

5th stay at this hotel.

We travel to honolulu every year, and this our 5th time to stay at the Queen Kap. The draw for us has always been the location and view of Diamond Head. This end of Waikiki is much quieter, and convienent to the beach, Zoo, and Aquarium.

While Hanauma Bay is top notch for snorkeling, Queens Reef at the south end of Waikiki is NEVER crowded, and is a great area to walk right off the sidewalk and snorkel.

thought i paid for King bed and then was refused

this was a waste of money. main thing was I asked and paid for the king bed and was given a double. this was on our honeymoon. The wanted a gigantic fee for getting a king bed. finger pointing between the O booking service with a z and hotel. toilet didnt work the whole time. asked for it to be fixed and they never fixed it.

Our Honeymoon Hotel

We stayed at the Queen Kapiolani because it was such a fantastic deal, had a great location and seemed to be a pretty decent hotel. Overall, we were please with the Queen Kapiolani. It was clean, the staff was generally friendly and the rate was reasonable. It was literally right around the corner from the beach. Why pay a lot more money to be across from the beach when you can save a lot of money just by being around the corner?? The view from our room was beautiful...we elected for a Diamond Head view. While this wasn't necessarily the best hotel I've ever stayed in, it served its purpose for our honeymoon in Hawaii.

No luxury

If your looking just for a cheap hotel on Waikiki it's ok but if luxurious is what you want go some where else. My room was very small and out dated. Not even room for a chair at the desk you just sat on the bed.

Small Rooms

The room and pool were a bit smaller than the pictures on the website led us to believe other than that it was a very nice stay.

Queen kapiolami

10th floor partial ocean view and great view of diamond head. clean room but a little small. Very close to restaurants and shopping on Waikiki. Parking is not good unless you want to pay $20 a day to park in the hotel parking garage. Overall a pleasant stay though.

Loud, small, and in need of a remodel

Location is the only plus for this hotel. Parking is $15 a day in a tiny garage, car barely fit. Room was lacking. The windows are old jalousie windows that don't seal. The wall unit a/c was moldy. Asked for another room and was told they were completely booked. The Diamondhead view was very good. Close to everything.
