don't stay here

Staying at this hotel was the worst travel experience I've ever had and negatively affected our family vacation. The hotel is in a state of great disrepair. The pictures online must be at least 20 years old. The building and rooms are quite dilapidated. The staff was rude and extremely unaccommodating. This is quite possibly the worst hotel in Honolulu.

My Experience

It was expensive but it wasn't that pretty. The hotel was old and seemed like a motel. The television didn't have a remote and i called in for them to bring it up and they said okay but i waited the whole day and they didn't bring it for me.

Location Location Location

I've stayed here twice in 4 months. Granted the bed was not the most comfortable but, I would stay here again in a heart beat. If you are looking for fancy this is not your place. If you want convenient, close to everything with 24 hour access to Wal-Mart and food this is the place to be. Fridge and Micro in the room. Stop at Wal-Mart for some filters and good coffee, eat breakfast at Like Like Drive Inn, Pagoda restaurant Or Asahi Grill across the street and you are set.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Stop at Wal-Mart 24 hours one block away. Pick up some essentials, water, soda, snacks and even fruit, yogurt, milk and cereal for breakfast if you want to save on a couple meals.

Good enough.

The location is perfect. It is a 7 minute walk from Ala Moana Center and even shorter for Walmart. The hotel itself is old, so you shouldn't expect too much. At least the room has a nice, cold air conditioner, mini fridge, and coffee maker. I also had a vehicle for the first 4 days and the parking was very convenient because the garage was right across the street ($10 per day charge). Unfortunately, the internet as well is not free. Overall, I still had a wonderful time visiting Hawaii for the third time and I would stay at Pagoda again.

Worst

This is the worst hotel I've experienced. We registered as Mr. and Mrs. and yet they gave us two twin beds. The refrigerator wasn't working. Maintenance turned it off and said wait till the ice melt than turn it back on after he saw we had a lot of chill stuff. No offer to replace the refrig. Water started melting all over the floor. We never turned it on. No smoking on our floor. Sounded like everyone went downstairs under our window to smoke....lots of noise. My bed felt like it had bedbugs in it. I scratched all night. I had no more than two hours of sleep. Did I tell you about the renovation. Tried to complain to management. None to be found.

Caveat Emptor

Parking is not included in the price, and internet access is not included in the price. Either is about $10/day extra. This seems to be a good deal for parking and a bad deal for internet access. The hotel itself is okay, but kind of dingy and old. Parts of it smell like somebody used a lot of ylang-ylang to cover up a mildew smell. The bed was comfortable and the fridge and microwave worked fine. The slat-style windows in the room don't close completely and so it was very humid inside the room. The location is great--reasonable walking distance to Waikiki and to Manoa (but I walk more than most people, so maybe it's not a good walk for you). I had no trouble with the staff.
