The Pacific Beach Hotel in Hawaii's Oahu is a haven for both children and those who once were children. The three-story, 280,000-gallon aquarium is a big hit, along with the arcade, pool and whirlpool. For the sports enthusiast, there are on-site tennis courts and jogging trails nearby. The Oceanarium Restaurant will draw everyone to the table with a colorful seafood buffet, and the Polynesian Dinner Show is a fire-blazing spectacle not to be missed. The hotel also wins points for being one of the most environmentally friendly locations on the island of Oahu; certain rooms use only recycled or biodegradable products and limit energy consumption.

Neighborhood
The Pacific Beach Hotel is located across from Kuhio, the calmest section of ocean in the area, and guests can enjoy lodging on Kalakaua Avenue, a popular stretch for visitors that includes many shopping and dining options next to Waikiki Beach. High-end retailers like Cartier and Apple share the space with outside vendors selling trinkets and souvenirs. Many famous chain restaurants can be found, including California Pizza Kitchen. The Honolulu Zoo is only a 10-minute walk away.
Hints and tips
When you book your stay, ask for an oceanfront room above the fifth floor for the most impressive window panoramas.

Consider stocking up on snacks or small breakfast treats at the ABC Store in the lobby - they might come in handy during early morning tour excursions.

Nice hotel, great location

This hotel is clean, great location, concierge desk if very helpful and has many options. The Waikiki shopping strip is VERY busy and loud, which echoes up to the rooms. Not enough dining options at the hotel or nearby. We did go to the Oceanarium buffet in the hotel. It was average food and beware - the buffet was $48 per person!!! We had no idea! Overall, we were happy there.

Noisy room

I guess the room walls are very thin. We could clearly hear the toilet flushing, talking (not particularly loudly), moving furniture, walking, etc from the neighboring rooms. In my room (partial ocean view with 2 double beds), the sink and mirror are located outside the bathroom in between the bathroom and the sleeping area, again split by a thin wall which doesn't go all the way across the room. So when I got up earlier than the other person to freshen up it's kind of noisy for the person who's still in bed. Location is perfect though right next to the beach. Staff very helpful.

It was... Okay.

It was one of the cheapest at the rating we could find. So... as far as value, it was pretty good. The beds didn't have comforters which was Okay considering it was a nice 70 degrees outside day and night. The beds were hard too, but... we were so tired by the end of each day that it didn't matter! The lobby area smelled like fish. And not good fish. You know you're not actually supposed to smell the "fishy" smell at seafood restaurants, it is a sign of bad seafood. The pool was small and COLD. It was in the shade until well into the afternoon which is good for avoiding sunburns but bad for not freezing yourself or kid(s). Decent views. Good location near the zoo and Waikiki beach. The $20 daily "amenities" fee is stupid. Meh, it got the job done and was cheap. I think, if possible to pay for it, I would recommend spending a bit extra on the nicer places. My parents were at Aqua Palms up the road and it was quite a bit nicer but was ~$20 a night more which if we would have read the fine print about the $20 amenities fee, would have been equal. It had a microwave, bigger fridge, right by a trolley stop, bigger bathroom and super fluffy bed.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

If you like the outdoors and hiking, Diamond Head is an obvious attraction to go climb. If you take the bus there and walk through the gate it is only $2.50 for the bus ride and $1 to get in the park. A taxi might be a cheaper option for a large group. If you like that but want even MORE climbing, Koko head is a more hidden gem that a lot of locals use for training/morning hike. It is 1000 feet of elevation in .65 miles climbing over steep rail road ties the entire way up. A delightful leg-burn! And FREE. Not recommended for too young of kids. It really is a challenge.

it was very nice relaxing staff was awesome

The only complaint I have is how clean the bathroom was. Went to take shower and found other people's hair in tub and the house keeping never took out the old bar of soap from previous person staying in that room. House keeping needs to step it up!

Perfect Location

We had a great view of Diamond Head as well as Wiakiki beach from our balcony. We had a smoking room, which is not available in a lot of hotels in the area. Within walking distance of beach and a lot of great shopping areas. I would definitely recommend this hotel. In fact, I'm already trying to plan a trip back next year!

Great deal, unpleasant staff
