Super Hotel

We stayed at the Outrigger with our children in 1971 the experience then was wonderful. Forty years later the experience was even better. The staff were always there ready to assist. Our room was very comfortable and the maid service was excellent. We especially enjoyed the lanai after a long day sightseeing. The bus service is fantastic, a block a way from the Outrigger which we used on serveral of our day trips. Diamond Head, which we hiked to the top. Pearl Harbor and the Aloho Stadium Flea Market and of course a trip to downtown Honolulu. We also took a day flight to the Big Island and a bus tour to the Polynesian Cutural Center. Both tours completed a superb time in Hawaii. Last, but not least, the Outrigger is located on the beach, near lots of shops and restaurants.

Honolulu vacation 2010

The overall experience was good, like I note a little noisy, a lot of door slamming. The access to the beach was good but get there early if you want to get spot. In general Honolulu is typical big city. Our best times were out and away from the hotel. Especially on the north side of the island. Nothing to do with quality of the hotel, but if I knew what know now I would not have picked Honolulu. Up side there were lot of great resturants.

Beatiful friendly place

What we used most at the hotel was the connecting restaurant Dukes and the beach area. A great place for a cocktail overlooking the ocean or a meal as the food was great, too. Walking to the beach, taking in the sun or a evening walk along the shore. Although due to the neighboring hotels the sun didn't hit their beach and pool area until around 10am so claiming beach chairs early required relaxing in shade for awhile. We had a partial ocean view room. It was truely a partial view but thats what we signed up to. We had 2 double beds which were too small and a bit uncomfortable. We're not a big couple, I'm 5'7" and wife 5'2". Queen is our preference but was not an option and there wasn't a Kingsize available. We also chose the package that included breakfast. We were given coupons to use at any of 3 different areas of the hotel. Although we are not big breakfast eaters having coffee, juice, scones (they had other items, too) from Seatle's Best was a great start to the day. This was our first trip tp Hawaii and the location provied us with a wide variety of places restaurants, shops, stores or the World Market within walking distance. Overall a very nice friendly place to stay.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

We signed up for a few tours through V.I.P Tours. The drivers were very friendly and infomative about the island. I didn't mind the 2 short trips in the bus (except one, I'll get to that later), to a Luau and Pearl Harbor. The one longer tour around the isle of Oahu was full of many sights and interesting facts provided by the driver but spending the bulk of the daylight inside a bus felt too captive for me. The driver saved it a bit with his wit and stopping as often as he could. Now for 1 of the short drives, 45 min, to Pearl Habor should not have been too bad but we had to meet early morning for pickup, 6:30am. This was to assure we get a ticket to see the Arizona Monument. We arrived around 7:30 and the driver had us stay on the bus so he could get all of us tickets for the same tour time. He came back around 8:00 with tickets for 11:20am and said we have time for a city tour and set on our way. Our morning coffee was great and not being the young pups we use to be asked for a restroom break. Almost an hour went by before he stopped to let us off. I would've rather visited a passing gas station than viewing the historic buildings. It was the worse ride I ever took.

Always a Great Stay!!!

This hotel is in the hub of Waikiki. It has such a fabulous atmosphere for all ages. If you don't like to be around many people don't come here. But if you are the type who loves lots of friendly interaction with people all over the world, this spot is great. Lots of nightly entertainment and don't forget to catch a sunset sail on the catameran. You don't need to worry about a rental car. You are right on the beach. There are lots of excursions when you want to take an adventure. Also, close by you can rent cars by the day. Enjoy!
