Had a wonderful time!

We wanted to go on a vacation to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life which is bound by schedules. As such, we didn't sign up for any tours nor did any advanced reservations for any attraction. I'm so glad we did that. We were able to do whatever we wanted to do when we wanted to do it. This hotel was perfect for our purpose. The location was great. Everything was walking distance. There was a great mix of high end, average and discount stores which made shopping great! There was a lot of dining options around the area as well from the high end sit down to fast food with local and foreign cuisine to satisfy any craving. The beach was right behind the hotel. It even was walking distance to the zoo and Diamond Head trail. For the religious, there is a catholic church (St. Augustine) near by as well. We are tennis lovers. This was also walking distance to Kapiolani park which has 4 public courts. "Regulars" at the courts were friendly. We didn't have trouble getting some play time. The Society of Seven show at the hotel was very entertaining! If you get the chance watch it. You won't be disappointed. The icing on the cake was the vow renewal ceremony. It was simple but quite a very romantic and sentimental experience. For you guys who are in the dog house this is a sure fire way to get you out of that. Not that I was! The hotel staff was great! Special mention goes to [...] at the front desk. She had our best interest. [...] She let us see the room and gave us a couple of choices. The upgrade to the Ocean view room was very desirable. She even arranged for us to get a very nice, big discount for the upgrade. Unfortunately, it was just outside of our budget. Nonetheless, she gave us a better room. No, it wasn't an upgrade but it had a better layout. The channel line up on the TV was not that great but then again, you wouldn't want to go there to watch TV the whole day. This is certainly one of the better trips we have taken. We really had a wonderful time!

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

For us, the biggest money saver was skipping on the car rental. Unless you have specific places to go to you don't need it. Shuttle is available from the airport to the hotel and back, most attractions have their own shuttle as well. Even when going shopping outside the area you can go on the trolley.

It's awesome - right on the beach

- The location is excellent: on the beach. it is also near shopping, restaurants, and transportation. - The staff are great and it's so nice to be able to walk right through the hotel to the beach. - The view from the restaurants and bar are amazing. - The quality and noise levels of the live bands in the outdoor lanai varied. The music was not uniformly good or bad, but mostly enjoyable. It's easy to just walk somewhere else when that happens! - We had an ocean view room and we could actually see the ocean!

Try the restaurants that aren't already famous back home. There are local restaurants throughout Waikiki and Honolulu that have delicious food at all levels of price and casual/formal types of food and dress codes. Eating local is good. It helps the economy in tourist locations.

Great place for honeymoon and anniversar

Very good location write on a beach, and meddle of the city on the main street ,in a day time on a beach,in evenings and night time a lot of shows on the main street and a lot of shopping center around and in a front, has 3 or 4 greet restaurants, ocean view , fresh food, great prices. Compare to last trip to Cancun Mexico,i liked there too its nice to go with kids more lay down, easier to go to restaurants all inclusive, here have to wait for seat and a lot of places to go to see around the island, here more like romantic trip to refresh your relations with your spouse.

I always stay here!

I was there for my cousins' wedding. We also went whale watching, shopped at Aloha swap meet, ate a couple of new places. I love staying at OWOTB because it's centrally located on Kalakaua and it's oceanfront. The staff is very accomodating and friendly.

Great Location

This was a really nice place with a great location! The parking was a little steep especially having to valet and tip them every time in and out. Dukes was just as good as the reviews. Defiantly would recommend!

Fabulous location,beachfront sunsets!

We wanted a hotel that was central to shopping, beach front, entertainment, pool, bar, etc. This hotel was perfect for us. The hospitality was so friendly, and the food was excellent. We pre-purchased our breakfast which was a great deal! We had the choice of either an oceanside buffet or a formal sit down ocean side restaurant. Both were fabulous! The hotel was very clean and updated with lots of Hawaiian charm. Dukes bar is located in the lower lobby and has great live entertainment and happy hour drinks. Also poolside service and for a fee beach umbrella service (about $50) per day....This part is pricey but, expected in Hawaii. The only other suprise cost was when we rented a car and had to park overnight ($30 per night fee). This can add up, but hard to put price on convenience. The valet parking was wonderful. Shuttle service to the airport was great ($15 round trip) International market is across the street and designer stores everywhere and malls close by. A wonderful holiday, but not a budget one. Worth it!

The Cheesecake factory is the best food in the area for a great price. The wait can be about 1 hour, but worth it...just shop about while you wait. The Hard Rock Cafe is new to Waikiki , but we found it a disappointment...

Great hotel!

We lived in Hawaii for 3 years and stayed at many hotels on many islands. We only stayed 2 nights before moving back to the mainland, but Outrigger did a great job. If you have kids, the pool area is a little small, but so are most of the Waikiki hotels. Stay at Hilton or Sheraton if you want the big pools, but be aware, they are both VERY busy. The in-house restaurants are great. We always went to Duke's even before staying at the hotel, but don't rule out the Hula Grill or Chuck's. Both are very good! The rooms were very nice! We had a room with a double bed. We didn't ask for a view, so we were overlooking the roof of the shopping center next door, but you can still see Waikiki, the Royal Hawaiian Pink Palace, and a little bit of beach and ocean. Aside from the view, we had plenty of space, very comfortable bed, a couch, nice TV, and nice bathroom. The staff were all very friendly. We talked to MANY of them including front desk, bell services, housekeeping, and even an engineering/maintenance guy when our TV volume would not turn down. I would stay here again any day.

If Duke's is a long wait, I would go to Chuck's over Hula Grill. The salad bar is small, but it covers the basics and the food is great!
