Outrigger Luana
We chose Outrigger Luana because of location on Fort DeRussey Park; quiet and peaceful, moderate walk to Waikiki and to the beach;away from the crowds. We had a great view of the park, the city, and the ocean from our balcony. Staff was gracious and welcoming. We didn't use housekeeping everyday. Shower curtain had some mold on it. Pillows were awful but the bed was very comfortable and the room was really nice; kitchenette didn't have microwave but came with dishes, cutlery, coffeemaker and small fridge. Parking on site available. Loved the "fruity-licious" water in the lobby-great thirst quencher when you come in from the heat! Pool is small but adequate with comfy lounge chairs--spent our time in the ocean mostly. We had a wonderful time and plan to return.

Great location, comfortable
We really liked the location right next to Fort Derussey park. The hotel was away from the others on the busy Waikiki strip, but was still just a short walk to the restaurants and shops. It was also not too long a walk to Derussey beach, which was beautiful and less crowded than Waikiki. The staff was very friendly, courteous, and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean, but we heard all the street noise from the side we were on. Also, the air conditioner was noisy. Our only other complaint with the room was that we had a sink, refrigerator, dishes, and cutlery, but no stovetop, toaster, or microwave. It wouldn't have taken much to add these items to make a complete kitchenette.

Plan ahead and book ahead. There is so much to see and do, and spaces can fill up fast. Also, for dining, breakfast before 8, and supper before 5 is a lot less busy.

Central and scenic location
Location was nice right beside Fort De Russy Park, which gave you a peaceful area to look out at. The pool overlooks the park not surrounded by highrises like many others. Convenient location between Ala Moana shopping center and Waikiki Beach area. Close to the Beach Walk and many other stores and restaurants. Beds were comfortable, though it would have been nice if sheets had been changed every few days, being that floors tended to get a bit sandy and would end up with sand in bed.

This Hotel Has Bed Bugs
The staff was friendly and helpful. The location was good for the price (a block from Waikiki beach. But the beds in my daughter's room had bed bugs and they got bitten quite a bit after several nights so we had to change rooms. That is a big enough downside that I would probably not stay at this hotel again.

Shopping tip:
Short walk from hotel
The International Marketplace in Waikiki area is not as great as I had been led to believe and the prices were not less expensive than other places around the island for the same items.

Excellent stay for the price.
This trip was for a visit with family and for fun. The hotel is close to the beach, nice park, and downtown Waikiki. Many places to eat at all price ranges. We especially liked the waterfront open air restaurant. We had rented a car and parking was $10 per night. The room was not carpeted but in Hawaii that is not a problem. Our view could have been better if we had not been on the first floor but it was OK. We had a big lanai which was a bonus. They had a continental breakfast with juice, coffee, and rolls (which were really good). The room was stocked with dishes, glassware, and silverware. Nice cupboards, counter, small fridge with ice cube compartment, but no microwave. A microwave would have really been nice. This was our third time to Oahu but our first in a hotel. Having a car I would say is a must. There are many places to go see at your leisure and nothing is very far away. A 3-4hr day trip can take you to the opposite side of the island. Just need to watch for the high traffic times and have a good map with you. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Not what we thought we were getting
The hotel was of average quality, but we were led to believe that we were staying at the real Outrigger in Hawaii. We were never told that there are many Outriggers and that the Luana is just an average local hotel with the term "Outrigger" included as part of its name, and that it is several blocks from the beach and has only a partial view of the ocean.

Wonderful hotel, would come again!
I stayed at the Luana for 8 days with my friends. We rented a car and the hotel had a fantastic parking for only $10/day! The rooms were comfortable, each with lanai and a kitchenette area which proved really useful! The beds seem to be made of the memory foam, but they were really comfy. The service was impeccable - the rooms were clean, the staff in the lobby was helpful and friendly. They even loaned us boogie boards for our trips to the north shore. The breakfast was modest but I think they were undergoing renovation. The pool is small and a bit awkward but the gym is good and there is a coin laundry in the building. The location is fantastic, right on Kalakaua Ave you are near everything. The beach is a block away and the views even from the city side were fantastic (can't bean sunrise, and full moon and the mountains) I would go there again and recommended it to all. The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because I reserve it for the Royal Hawaiian.
