The best hotel we have had in 10 visitis to Hawaii

We just returned from 8 days at the Outrigger Luana Waikiki. After going to 10 other hotels over the years and my wife and I believe this is the best hotel in Waikiki that is budget priced. It is in a wonderful location across from the Park, close to the beach, the rooms are larger than many in Waikiki and the beds a view are great. The hotel staff is willing to help you at any time day or night. The pool is small and private, not like some where everyone is walking through to the beach. The place is cleaner than any we have found, and the little cafe in front of the hotel is great for breakfast and lunch. It is small enough to make you feel like home. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to really enjoy Waikiki.

The Kapiolani Jr. College Culinary Arts serves a full lunch, soup, salad, main course, dessert and beverage for $25.00 that for taste and presentation is 5 stars. Best deal in Hawaii. Make reservations.

Peaceful Vacation

Everything was very neat and well prepared. The swimming pool was very good too. The location was excellent for catching busses and we could walk to Waikiki Beach, The Aquarium, and The Zoo. Of course we spent quite a bit of time at the International Market which is also walking distance. It was fun to come home and look at al the lovely items purchesed while in Honolulu. I would have liked to have a Microwave in the room but that was not provided unless we changed rooms. It was a very happy experience!

Not impressed

Loud traffic noise, and on the main route for police and ambulance to waikiki (all night). Noisy and slow elevators (can hear them in your room all night). Not very close to the beach...I wouldn't stay there again.

Short but good Stay

We have just returned from staying in Outrigger Luana and have to say how pleasantly surprised we were with the quality and location of this hotel. The hotel is only a short walk from the center of Waikiki and a pleasant 10 minute walk through a park to the beach. We found the staff very knowledgeable about the area and keen to help with any questions. One nice touch is the drinks machine in reception which contains iced water with fruit in which is very welcome after a day out in the hot sun.

Great value for the money & great staff

Our experience was fantastic overall. Even though the hotel isn't in the heart of Waikiki Beach, it's within 5 minutes' walk to the beach and the main strip--if you don't mind a little walk in paradise to get places, then it's absolutely perfect. The staff was by far the best feature of this hotel. They went out of their way to make us comfortable, even on our last day when we had to check out at 12 but stay around Waikiki til our 10:00 flight--they provided beach towels and then a shower facility when we got back. The area is noisy because of the street like most Waikiki hotels, but the fan/air conditioner covers the noise well. We were on the first floor facing the park in a "City Park View", so our view of the ocean was almost nonexistent, but everyone we've shown our pictures to comments on how gorgeous the view is anyway because of the park itself. The only thing we hated was the elevator service!! They are sooooo sloooooow, so be patient. Loved the tasty little cafe (wish it was open later than 2 pm!) and pretty & comfortable little pool area. Wish they would have changed the sheets more than a couple times in our 5-night stay, but I'm particular about stuff like that and they probably would have if we had asked. The room was very clean and well-equipped. Also, can't beat the free internet!

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

Go to the Hula Grill at Outrigger Waikiki Beach for breakfast--best view, great prices, and amazing food & service. It's empty before 7:45, which is a great time to watch the sun rise. Then, hit up Tiki's at the Aston Waikiki for strong drinks & a reasonable but delicious Lanai menu for dinner!

Outrigger Luana

Great location, away from the hustle and bustle and homeless/occupy issues. Very attentive and welcoming staff. Welcoming and made me feel good about being "home" in the islands once again.

My Kind of Place

I've stayed here about 5 or 6 times prior. Can't beat the location access to Honolulu city, Ala Moana Shopping Center, and Waikiki Beach proper. If you're a walker like me, the location is perfect for Kalakaua Ave. access (the main avenue that parallels Waikiki Beach), for window shopping, restaurants, and world famous Waikiki beach. Staying any closer to the "hub" of Waikiki proper can be a bit too crowded. The hotel is quiet, well maintained, staff is friendly and welcoming. Has a small pool area, laundry facilities. Free PC internet use and free travel doc printing is a plus. My only eye-opener is the $25.00/night valet only parking (includes in/out usage). However, having used their very narrow parking garage on prior visits, I can tell you that having them do the parking and retrieving of your car is worth it. In-room safe a plus.

Lots of shopping options for food/snacks/water, souvenirs, gifts, knick/knacks, you name it, all within walking distance. Bring a good pair of comfy, walking shoes.

Good Value for your money

The hotel is in a good location, close to everything. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The partial ocean view is amazing I can only imagine a ocean view. The resturant in the hotel has amazing breakfast. Would stay there again. Only downside is parking is pricey if you have a car to park.
