Overall, great place

This was a great experience. The only negative aspect was how my friend and I were treated once they knew we booked through a 3rd party travel agency/package deal. They saw that we were young (and assumed we had no money) and in combination with the package deal listed by our name, and gave us the smallest, hidden away room possible. But was still a nice place.

Review of our staff at Moana Surfrider

The location of the hotel is second to none. It also has an amazing lobby and beachfront presence. We were a bit disappointed at the amount of 'partial ocean view'. It was hardly worth paying extra for. We seriously missed having a small lounge in the room; leaving us to sit on the bed or on the chairs provided. Our biggest disappointment was the lifts in the tower we were in. One was continually out of service the whole time. We continually had to wait what seemed ages for a lift to arrive; and then it would be full. When we were able to get into the lifts, we regularly experienced problems with all of the lift selections disappearing, meaning people had to lean over each other to re-select their lift choice or attempt to converse in whatever language they spoke to the person nearest the selection pad. The next time the lift stopped, the same problem would happen, meaning we had to re-select our choice of floor sometimes up to 5 times going up or down. These lifts were the worst I have experienced in any hotel I have stayed in.

Cheesecake Factory fills a large void when trying to find the type of western food one might be accustomed to back home. Any number of places will serve up fast food or traditional fare, but the Cheesecake Factory had great food at great prices.

A mix of good and bad

Overall, a good stay. Great to be right on the beach. But the accommodations were not worth the price. Many of the staff were very friendly. But a few were especially rude - except toward singer Bobby Brown and his family, who were there for Brown's wedding.

Unsurpassed Location, Very Good Hotel

The Moana Surfrider is a historically significant hotel, and by staying here you are following the footsteps of more than 100 years of visitors to Waikiki. As it is an older property, the rooms are somewhat smaller in area, and you can here sounds from the hallway through the doors. But, the rooms themselves are excellent an everything is new and clean since the 2007 renovation.

Great if you intend to be out

Banyan wing rooms are small. Tower rooms are a good size but most rooms have no view (looks into the next resort). Located in the heart of waikiki so great for shopping and food.

Lives up to it's reputation as the Grand Lady of Waikiki

This was my third stay at the Moana. The Moana is a historical hotel with the best location in Waikiki. Service this year was excellent and much improved from past stays. Do your homework and decide what you are looking for. This is not a huge multi-tower conglomerate with a shopping center. It suits the discerning traveler who appreciates it's old world charm along with fine dining and great beach acess.

There are times when the Moana offers it's breakfast buffet complimentary on upgrades. It is oh so worth doing the upgrade for it alone. Really enjoyed the quality, quantity, and service and the view from the veranda can make anyone's day.

Don't stay on street side

Everything about the hotel was great - if you have a choice, don't stay on the street side as it's loud at night and early morning. If you're looking for a hotel with a large pool for the kids - this is not the place. Hotel is mostly adults.

Not Worth the Cost

The rooms was tiny. Location on the beach is good and the huge banyan tree is beautiful. But, staying just about anywhere else would have been a much better value.
