almost a BIG problem
Hotel did not have my reservation, made as a package deal through the internet travel provider. Luckily they still had space available. According to their records they got it straightened out through the provider and got their payment from that transaction. Had they not had any space the vacation could have been ruined before it ever started. Makes me a little wary of booking total hotel/car/airfare packages in the future with that provider (meaning you). Thank you, Bryan Stevens

Winter getaway
There's nothing really special to say about this hotel. It wasn't bad, but nothing spectacular either. The rooms are a nice size especially since we stayed a full week, with a full kitchen, living room, bedroom and bathroom. Very outdated! Not that it really matters since you're in Hawaii and not much room is spent in the hotel anyways. Location is not bad, a couple blocks from the beach but also down the street from where many homeless people like to camp out. There's a pool, hot tub, eating area with many grills that you can use for $2, a little restaurant type thing on the pool deck, a party room near the elevators on the pool deck. The staff was friendly and there when we needed them. The lobby of the hotel is very nice, kind of tricks you into what the rooms will be like though. The pictures on the website of the rooms are identical to what you get, so at least there's no surprise. There's a cafe near the lobby with computers you can use and a litle convinience shop next to it. The only thing missing was a continental breakfast, really would have liked to have that instead of having to go out for breakfast everyday.

Our biggest issue was trying to find where to eat each night that wasn't going to completely crash the bank since we had 6 nights to think about. Look into the restaurants at the hotels and the little hole in the wall places, they are usually the best and a lot of them are hidden. DON'T GO TO THE RED LION!!! Most disgusting place I've ever seen. Went into the bathroom and almost walked out of the place right then and there, thank God we didn't get food, only drinks!

LOVELY HAWAIIAN HOTEL-GREAT BED. POOL, CLEAN
FROM THE BEAUTIFUL ENTRY, THROUGH THE OLD HAWAII PICTURES, THROUGH ANY ONE OF THE FOUR EXCELLENT ELEVATORS, TO THE UNIT'S GREAT VIEW AND COMFORT, THE VISITOR WILL EXPERIENCE TRUE HAWAIIAN HOSPITALITY. THE BANYAN FEELS LIKE YOUR HOME IN HONOLULU. THIS WAS OUR SIXTH STAY HERE. LOCATION IS PERFECT, STAFF IS HELPFUL. TWO SPAS, HUGE SALTWATER POOL, GOOD SANDWICHES AT THE COFFEE SHOP ON THE GROUND FLOOR, ALL PLEASANT.

Shabby but good location
The Banyan is in a great location, esp if you're a first timer. We used to live across the street, so know the area. Garage parking is convenient and at $10/day or $60/wk is a bargain for the area. Hint: Parking takes cash only, no credit cards. Our first room was really shabby, sofa ripped, stained, and VERY uncomfortable to sit or lay on. We complained and they moved us right away, but the furniture there was just as hard and uncomfortable. Beds were fine. There is only one AC in living room, so we bought a fan at WalMart to circulate air in the sleeping area. The housekeeping staff was very nice and responsible (hint: tip at the beginning of your stay, always). Nothing very fancy here....but as I said, the location is tops. Smack in the middle of Waikiki - block to beach and nightlife.

Short drive from hotel
As you are coming from the airport, take the King Street exit off the H-1 and stop at either the Safeway or the Foodland on Kapahulu on your way to the hotel. That way, you will have fresh coffee, milk, whatever first thing the next morning. The units at Banyan have basic kitchen setup.

Overall great stay, was pleased
Hawaii is obviously a beautiful place to visit. We did alot of site seeing and visited all the so called "must see" locations like the Polynesian cultural center, dole plantation, north shore, diamond head and so forth. I recommend this place for the people who are not picky first of all. This place had all you basically need to have a descent stay. The furniture and look is somewhat outdated but that doesnt really matter. The kitchen was sufficient. What we did was our first day there we went to costco and loaded up on bare necessities and just cook it up in ur room thus saving alot of money. Buy water, beer, bread, eggs, meat and what not and live off that for your stay. Bring your own coffee and some coffee filters though. Creamer and other Lil amenities can be bought at the store downstairs. Other than that advice its up to you on how you enjoy your time, one last heads up don't count on the mattress being even remotely comfy. It was like sleeping on coral, so uncomfortable. Have fun Mahalo!! P.S parking was ok cheapest we could find at 10 bucks for every 24 hrs, just make sure you pay up on time or when you pull out they will tag you with a 10 dollar over charge fee. P.S.S Great location, about 2 blocks south of Waikiki beach everything within walking distance. Plenty of ABC stores everywhere, check out the stadium swap meet as well on weekends and wensdays cheap prices if planning on buying gifts don't buy them at Waikiki marked up prices. Same B.S stuff.

Pros: - Very nice view - quiet and private - courteous staff - convient store and activity desk in hotel was nice and helpful Cons: - Bed too small for delux room - Old-worn furniture, etc - maids kept turning off room AC untill we requested they stop - sauna-pool area needs to open earlier or close later to be able to enjoy them after or before activities - hotel should provide wheel chairs for handicapped travelers
