The hotel started off poorly for us, as we had a poorly trained, unfriendly employee checking us in. The rooms were tiny, and ... we ended up upgrading our room, a must to tolerate this hotel. While the breakfasts were a great benefit to a family, they did not offset the negatives, which included: -Incredibly expensive parking -A nickel and dime approach to fees. I never felt the staff cared if we enjoyed our stay, they just wanted to add charges to the bill -The staff was either very good, or awful. Mainly indifferent. -The pool hours were incredibly short, closed at 5 P.M. This hotel is fairly pricey, but does not deliver the service to warrant the high prices. I would nor recommend this hotel

The location is very good, but that is about all this hotel has going for it. I don't know if it was becasue I was a single ... guy, [...] or something else, but they gave me a room on a very low floor right across from the noisy ice machine. If you like live music at breakfast, you might like it here. Personally, I like to sleep in but that was next to impossible with the live music blaring from 7:00am to 9:00am. I was not a big fan of the elevator "security features" which seemed overkill and made getting an elevator a very long wait. The retro red decor did start getting on my nerves after a couple of days. The rooms are small and they nickel and dime you for everything. You have to pay to use the in room safe. You have to pay to use internet. Had I known prior I would have stayed at a nicer, more expensive hotel where such things are complimentary. There is no in room writing table either. They don't even give you towels for the pool.I definitely will not stay here again. There are plenty of other hotels that are located just as well.

The hotel was very average for the price, they were accomodating when it came to getting us a crib and extra sheets and ... towels. Staff could be a little more friendly and they didn't have much information on the area and on things to do. Expensive to use internet in room. Three activities desk in lobby(if u're renting a car go through them and rent by the day). Parking in hotel is very expensive $27 per day.

The check-in lady was very helpful. However, I was very disappointed to be given a "partial ocean view" room - even though ... we'd paid extra for a full ocean view. The breakfast is also disappointing. There are minimal seats and tables and most guests end up sitting on pool chairs. Most uncomfortable. The location is good. The hotel was located in a perfect area. Right across from the beach. We enjoyed the pool and it was great that the hotel ... offered a package that included breakfast at the beach. Even though the we could stay at the pool and have breakfast there, the breakfast menu did not include traditional American fare. We expected a little more breakfast selection (as in sausage, bacon, eggs) without additional cost. It would also be more enjoyable if coffee was provided in the rooms.

Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel (formerly the ResortQuestWaikiki Beach Hotel) CommentsAbout our stay 10-22-09 throgh 10-30-09I ... was part of a group of 4 people staying at the Aston Waikiki. From the [...] website, this hotel looked pretty good: "Breakfast on the Beach" daily, 2-for-1 luau!, ResortQuest Kids, Stay, Play & Eat Free program!, right on the beach, 2 blocks to the Zoo, and 1 block to Kapiolani Park (unfortunatly the only park that allows overnight homeless occupancy). We made our reservation about 5 months in advance, because we were going to Honolulu to attend a football game with the Univ. of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (Great Fans but we won the game). We made multiple phone calls to make sure our group of 4 would have adjoining / connecting rooms, and had specified King rooms. At check-in we were assured that the rooms were adjoining / connecting. When we got to the rooms, they were connected but with two double beds. I'm 6'5", and don't fit well in a double bed. I immediately called the front desk, who informed me that they don't have adjoining / connecting King rooms. If they would have told me this during any one of the five phone calls that I had made dircet to the reservations desk it would have been different. We ended up moving two times before we had King rooms on the same floor. PoolWhen we got to the pool in the evening after check-in, we find out that the pool is closed at 7PM when the Rest. and Bar is open, so that the party goers don't start jumping into the pool. "Breakfast on the Beach" daily. This turned out to be a grab and dash all the (continental type) food and coffee you can put into a plastic lunch bag for the day. 2-for-1 luau! a $74 valueWhen asked at the desk about this item, they said "well, it isn't really a luau, its more of a buffet", so we signed up for a luau at $80+ per person that turned out to be a 20 mile bus trip (30 minutes late) with picnic tables on a beach with a buffet and 3 drinks, that had reasonable food and they closed the bar by the time we were ready for a third drink. ResortQuest Kids, Stay, Play & Eat Free program! Didn't participate with this option, traveling without kids. Offer is subject to change without notice and is based on availability. Apparently these were good thoughts when they started advertizing them, but the follow through is less than I would have expected. OverallThe rooms were clean, the elevators are a bit strange till you get used to them, but having Tiki's Restaurant and Bar on the premises is a benefit, because their fish and chips and calimari are great.

The hotel was a short walk down main strip to get to hotels, resturants, and clubs. The Waikiki trolley stops in front of ... the hotel and will take you to the mall for only $1. There is activity planners in the lobby of the hotel to help find activities to do while in town. Breakfast is not included in Hawaian saver deal. The hotel was wonderful; however, at breakfast there were choices for Asians, lots of carb filled donuts, fruits but NO EGGS ... or BREAKFAST MEATS. So we had carb highs. It was great that we had a breakfast each morning and by the size of the crowds it was appreciated. But in the week that we were there, we heard complaints about no egg roll-ups, even from staff. We would definitely stay here again!

Waikiki on a budget.
Bruno Dec 9, 2009
Being a police officer and having traveled around the world, I try to combine budget and safety for my hotels. Due to the ... limited space allowed, I have tried to condense this trip. Transportation: Pre-arrange a flat rate airport shuttle to the hotel. Airport taxi's are expensive and can charge for each piece of luggage and if stuck in traffic on the H-1. Getting a rental car? The hotel charges $$ per day to valet park and there is very limited pubic parking around the immediate area. Major rental agencies have offices within walking distance of hotel which open at 7am and close around 9:45 pm. Great alternative for day trips. Hotel: Great views of the Pacific, Waikiki and of Diamond Head. The hotel is an older property with average sized rooms and is starting to show its age. Rooms/bathroom were clean and included a small refrigerator. If you want a Waikiki view, request an upper floor due to the bar and restaurant being located next to the pool. Both have live entertainment and can get loud in the early morning. The elevators will only take you to your floor, which for me is a great security feature. In the morning, the hotel serves a free breakfast at the pool, again saving some money. Staff: From the bell desk to housekeeping, I had no problems nor witnessed any. Location: The hotel is located at the east end of Waikiki and directly across from the beach. There are numerous Waikiki shuttle options and a taxi ride is approximately $8 to anywhere on the strip. Security / Area: The Waikiki strip felt safe with numerous tourists walking at all times. The Honolulu Police along with a private security company (bright yellow vests) both patrol the strip area. At night, use common sense if heading into the beach or Kapiolani park area (towards the Zoo). Numerous transients were camping out in the area, which is also where the majority of the off site public parking is. In the daytime, I had no problems with numerous tourists walking to the zoo and in the park. Final note, use the crosswalks and obey the signals. I was informed that there is a $$ fine for violating the crosswalk signal/light. Overall, The Aston Waikiki was a safe and clean, budget hotel. I would return, however would still shop around for a more centralized location or one with better parking.
Traveler type: Couples
Hawaii can be done on a budget. Utilize the free breakfast from the hotel and store fruit/snacks in your room (free breakfast + fruit for lunch = good steak dinner and Mai-Tai's for dinner). Your in the US, drive there. Waikiki rental car locations open late. Use for day trips and return to avoid paying for parking or expensive tours. Use local ABC stores (7-11, Circle K) for any incidentals.

Hands for Healing Dec 9, 2009
The location was great. It's in walking distance of the Zoo (nice). Aquarium also nice. Diamond head mountain, a must see. ... Shopping, shopping need I say more. The beach may be across the street, but walked the beach and I feel it was the best part of the beach, especially for smaller children. The hotel was clean, nice and the staff were very pleasant, need to have a jacuzzi. To compare this to other trips I have taken. Well I can say we went to Hawaii, but for the hours on the plane to get there I would have to say, we can go to the Caribbean Islands and have the same beauty for a lot less travel time.
