Not bad but could use some improvement

This place has the bones of a good hotel. The staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. The actual building is older but the rooms have been updated with tasteful touches. There were a few draw backs, however. First: Kuhio Ave. is party central. At night, it gets loud so if you're a light sleeper be prepared with some sleep aids. The hotel recognized this and provides free ear plugs Second: When I was there, the building had issues with the elevators, the fire alarm and the internet. The hotel did a good job of keeping us informed of these issues and of fixing them but it would've been nice to have not had these issues at all Third: The parking garage is tight. If you rented a car get insurance for it. My car was fine (due to my exceptional driving skills :-P ) but I can see how one's car could easily get scratched or bumped in there. All in all, it was an enjoyable stay. I think if the hotel can just get some of the building's engineering issues under control it would b fine!

Kalakaua Ave. has a lot of nice restaurants but for a more authentic/island experience, head to Kapahula Ave (intersected by both Kalakaua and Kuhio). There are more mom and pop places up and down Kapahula which offer more authentic island cuisine AND are nicer to the pocket book.

the good outweighs the bad

The purpose of our trip was to visit family and friends. Our 4 year old grandson loved the zoo, the childrens discovery center, the bus ride, shave ice and pineapple ice cream in the food court at the international market center. This trip was different because we did not take any tours or rent a car. There is plenty to do in Waikiki, the buses are great and things are within walking distance, including the beach. From the balcony we could see into Duke's market place. Some people on the floors above us could see the ocean. Earplugs were provided in case the music from the neighboring night clubs were a problem but we had no problem at all and the ear plugs were not needed. My only negative comment is that at certain times of the day, there was no hot water. It seems that everyone used the hot water at the same time so baths and showers were cold. I eventually figured out that if I flushed the toilet as I was filling the tub with water, we got hot water. The same with the shower. IF you have a chance to go to Waikiki on Halloween, I would highly recommend it. The costumes we saw on the street were unbelievable. They were unique and people of all cultures participated. There were more adults than children but the adults were heading to the nightclubs.

Good service

Between Internation Market Place and Duke Market place, next to Waikiki Trade Center. Close to everything, bus (stop at WTC or front of hotel)/shopping/walking/restaurant/tour pickup, block away to DFS Gallerie center with other luxuries brand (Louis Vuitton, MK, Coach). Two block from beach. Little noisy on the weekend at night until 4am, weekday is very quiet. Free Wifi in the hotel/room. Staff is very nice and helpful. There is chinese seafood restaurant inside the hotel. Computers are available with fee.

Sightseeing tip: Not Applicable

If you spend more than 3 days then you should bought Go Oahu Card (google to find the best price, some site will sell 15-20% cheaper) and plan your day with those attraction. Here is how I spend my 3 days: Day 1: - Grand Circle island tour (from 7am-5pm, my kids doesn't like it, and ) - rent the moped (motocycle) free for 4 hours Day 2: - Pearl Harbor & Honolulu tour ('til noon) - Polynesian Culture Center (took bus #2 or #13 or #8 to ala moana shopping center, then transfer to bus #55 - about 2hrs on the bus), if you want buffett and show then you need to call in to get it reservation, (cost: english buffett is $20, Ali Luau $40) Day 3: - Makani Catamaran Sail in the morning - Go get the Waikiki Trolley pass (work for next day) - Stand Up Paddle Boarding (afternoon) - Germaine's Luau (Free as bonus) Day 4: - use Waikiki Trolley to go around the town to: shopping center, walmart, samsclub, diamond head hiking ($1 entrance), chinatown. Dining: Walk about 2 miles or took bus, away from waikiki, everything is cheaper than Waikiki. Otherwise you can choose any other buffet around area for about $20.

Aqua Wave is central to most things in Waikiki, however it gets very noisy at night if you're not part of the night club scene. Nightly shows in International marketplace were nice, and were also heard from our room on the nights that we did not watch them.

Decent hotel

Hotel rooms were in ok shape, some noticeable wear on the walls and furniture. The TV was really small compared to the counter it was on, but not a big deal. AC worked well and was fairly quiet, rooms were fairly comfortable to sleep in. The location is located right on a strip with several bars and restaurants so dining out was not a problem. It was a short 5-10 minute walk to Waikiki beach and besides the hookers walking around outside, the hotel was a good deal for someone not looking for anything more than a bed and shower.
