Great Hotel

Lee the traveler Dec 14, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

The hotel is awesome - very clean and nicely decorated. We had microwave and a frig. It's more like a four star hotel - ... upscaled. Although it's not directly on the beach but it is right across the street from Hilton Wakiki, but a whole less expensive. Great value. It's very convenient to walk to Hilton village for shopping and to the Wakiki beach. GREAT ! We will definitely stay again next time.

The hotel was in a perfect location-walking distance to all the shops and restaurants on Waikiki Beach, they gave us a free ... upgrade without us asking (view of the beach and Diamond Head), the room was beautiful, the bathroom was very clean and had a great high pressure steaming hot shower, one of the walls was all glass made of floor to ceiling glass doors that opened up completely, as soon as you open them, the breeze from the beach fills the room, it was a wonderful experience! We waited until the last minute to book and got an awesome-unbelievable deal!

This hotel has been adequately written about by many others in the past. The hotel could clearly do with some renovations. ... The carpet, paint and furniture do show signs of wear. Surprisingly, the one thing that got to me was the loud fan noise from the AC unit. It would wake me up at night whenever it came on even after five days in the room. Location is great and the staff are very nice. You get a lot for your money. Pay twice as much and you can cross the street and stay at the Hawaiian Village. Then you get regal atmosphere, as well. Overall, it's a very reasonable place to stay for a very reasonable price.

Excellent Value

Great value - rooms were small but we weren't there much. King-size bed, bigger refrigerator than we expected, microwave, ... iron and board, hair drier, quiet rooms facing away from Ala Moana Blvd. We were told by people staying across the street at the plush Hilton Hawaiian Village that they did not have all that. A/C and Internet worked great - I didn't try the wi-fi since an Ethernet cable was available. I saw a lot of people using wi-fi in the lobby, though. NO PROBLEMS WITH THE ELEVATORS. Gym was small - one universal, two treadmills and an elliptical, but it got the job done. Very small pool, but it was never crowded the water was nice - spent most of the water time at the beach - walk through Hilton HV to get there. The Wailana Coffe House will save you a fortune at breakfast - the $5.75 all-you-can-eat pancakes is the best deal going - two eggs, two strips of bacon and three nice pancakes - more if you want them when finished with the first batch. Coconut syrup was great. Right next to the IHOP at about 60% of the price. Great spot if you're watching your budget. Many ABC stores (souvenirs, snacks, drinks) - seems like they are on every other block. If you can get out to the Flea market at Aloha Stadium (Sat., Sun, and Wed until 3pm) you will save BIG money on souvenir aloha shirts, towels, t-shirts, costume jewelry etc. I saw a specific Hawaiian shirt for $10.00 that was going for $14.99 and up in town. If I return to the Waikiki area, I would definitely go back to Aqua Palms.

Money savers tip, Short Drive

Best hint you'll get anywhere - parking is expensive, but...if you have a rental car, come out of the hotel and go right on Ala Moana BLVD. Make a left at the Red Lobster (Hobron Ave.) and drive straight back about 2 blocks. There is a marina there - just follow the road around a couple more blocks to 25 CENT PER HOUR PARKING - NO KIDDING. There's a maximum of 24 hours at a time. Find a spot, note the spot number, go up to the machine and enter the information and pay. Put the printed ticket on your dash. You can't touch that deal.

just so so, do not expect too much

May Oct 5, 2009

Basically the staff are very friendly. But the check in time is forced to be 3pm. Also their computer system seems having ... bugs, we got a room where there had been people living, which made us go up and down 3 times when we were very exhausted. Also their key card always did not work when you came back from outside. We had to go to the lobby desk to enable our cards very often. Once we were at the garage gate and found our card not work, this put us in a very dangerous position because the slope to the gate is very abrupt and very short to slip into the main street.

the hotel is kind of easy to miss. when they said it was a block from the beach, i didn't know you had to cut through the ... hilton hawaiian village property to get there. it's not TOO far, but i just thought it'd be a lot closer. i went diving with aquazone for 3 days. they picked me up from the hotel each day and dropped me off as well. the staff was very nice, and checked in for me for my return flight and weighed my bags for me to make sure i was under the 50lb limit! if you're into shopping, then the hotel is in a centralized location for the ala moana center and all the high end shops on Kalakaua Ave, being about a 15 min walk from either. the hotel is not in the middle of touristy waikiki, thankfully. i heard hawaiian hotel rooms are not typically that large, which was true for my room. i had a diamond view room, which gave nice views of the mountains, the city, and a bit of the beach... all with a big column right in the middle of the glass doors. the doors opened up but the outdoor space was only about 12" deep - not meant as a balcony unfortunately.

about 15-20 min walk to the ala moana shopping center which i'm told used to be the largest mall in the country! also, about a 10-min walk to all the high end shops on Kalakaua Ave. depending on where you're from, sales tax on clothes is pretty good in hawaii at 4-point something percent.

Nightlife tip, Short Walk

Hilton village and outtrigger hotel are right across the street from this great hotel. These areas are Las Vegas like surroundings, really upscaled shopping and entertainment. Or it's just great to walk around in these majestic settings.

--Lee the traveler, Rochester Hills, Michgan Dec 14, 2009

Dining tip, Short Drive

If you decide to dine in Waikiki, with limited parking, if you cannot walk, it is best to take a taxi.

--Holo Holo, Maui, Hawaii Dec 7, 2009

Dining tip, Short Walk

Try the Kobe steak house. The atmosphere and the food is great.

--Old Soldier 41, Marietta, Georgia Nov 19, 2009

Dining tip, Short Walk

There is a great thai plae just across from the Ala Moana shopping center near the Walmart. Definitely worth the walk.

--Conference attendee, New England Nov 2, 2009

Shopping tip, Short Walk

Ala Moana Mall is just a 20 minute walk from this hotel and the beach is equally close.

Recreation/Attractions tip, Short Walk

the nearby beach is good location as has palm trees you can use for shade instead of paying the outrageuos prices for lounge chairs and umbrella's.

--melmac, japan Oct 4, 2009

Shopping tip, Short Walk

about 15-20 min walk to the ala moana shopping center which i'm told used to be the largest mall in the country! also, about a 10-min walk to all the high end shops on Kalakaua Ave. depending on where you're from, sales tax on clothes is pretty good in hawaii at 4-point something percent.

Shopping tip, Short Walk

Short walk to Aloa Moana Center

--Paul, Seattle, Wa Aug 19, 2009

Money savers tip

Not necessary to rent a car. Walmart is not that far if you want to go stock up on food for your room. The bus will take you there and back.

--Sheila, Jefferson City, MO Jul 28, 2009

Shopping tip, Short Walk

Ala Moana Shopping Center was one of the most beautiful shopping places I have ever been to and they have stores for everyone. Everything from Prada to Old navy.

--Erich, Los Angeles, CA Jul 1, 2009

Dining tip, Short Walk

There is an excellent Sushi restaurant less than 2 blocks down the road called Todai Restaurant. It may seem a little pricey, but their buffet has TONS of food available.

--AJ, Port Hueneme, CA Jun 8, 2009

Dining tip, Short Walk

There are a lot of choices for dining just a short distance away. Jimmy Buffetts and Bubbas Gumps had excellent food and wonderful staff. Dukes awesome location good food, average service.

--Discrete Traveler, Nor Cal May 19, 2009

Entertainment tip, Short Walk

Go to the Hilton across the street for the free shows!

--Tracy, Mesa, AZ May 18, 2009

Shopping tip, Short Walk

The location is great. Good shoping and Beach is in walking distance also dining.

--Ree, Atlanta, Ga May 11, 2009

Dining tip, Short Walk

If you're struggling to find something healthy to eat, which can be difficult in Waikiki, Wailana Coffee house has a decent all you can eat salad bar. Also, if you don't want to pay the $7 rate for Mai Tai's throughout Waikiki, head over to the lounge attached to the coffee house for a tasty $3.50 mai tai.

--Holmfry, Vancouver, BC May 9, 2009

Money savers tip, Short Walk

Good value for the money

--Toby, Los Angeles May 8, 2009

Entertainment tip, Short Drive

Diamond Head hike was a good way to stretch your legs and get away from all the traffic. It was close enough. Also the Oahu nature tours/hikes was good and they will pick you up at the hotel.

--Danny, Small town, Kansas May 8, 2009

Dining tip, Short Walk

There is a nice Thai restaraunt next door with entertainment. plus a waffle house down stairs. not far from beach. The staff was really nice and very helpfull.

--world wide playa, VA Beach, Va May 5, 2009
