Ala Moana is one block from the Hawaii Convention Center and attracts groups from the mainland. The hotel's 36 floors and more than 1,000 rooms hardly keep Ala Moana a secret, but a surprising find amidst the pack.

Very Good Hotel

The Ala Moana has allot to to offer for the price. It is not in the heart of Waikiki but yet directly next to the Ala Moana Mall, which is an amazing place. I stayed in the Kona Tower and paid about $99 per night. The room is remodeled, clean and comfortable but there is no view or lani (balcony). For me, it was a room and cost which was good for 4 nights (I was on business). The staff is excellent, friendly and helpful if needed.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Go to the Ala Moan shopping center next store, which is not your average mall! You'll find lot's a excellent food choices in the food court for under $8.00 a mean, which in or near Waikiki is impossible.

Good Location Off Waikiki

I was able to walk to Waikiki and the surrounding area easily without being caught in the middle of the crowded Waikiki area. The biggest turnoff was being able to hear nearby guests closing their room doors as if the walls were made of paper. It made some nights difficult to get to sleep as I would try to get up early to catch the sunrise and some of the other guests didn't share the same plans.

Comfortable room

We paid a little more to stay at this hotel because of its location near the mall. We enjoy being able to eat at the different resturants and shop at our convenience. The rooms are comfortable and satisfy our needs for sleeping. The only problem was the TV system. While watching a show it would revert back to the main screen. This was a little annoying.

nice clean hotel, just off the beaten path.

More of a convention hotel with great gym, good pool, no drink service at pool. Not like fun party hotels on the beach a few blocks away but good value for a nice clean hotel, just off the beaten path.

Great location, kind of small rooms

I can't say I didn't enjoy my stay here. All staff I've associated with were very friendly. The coffee was decent, Lions coffee (Hawaiian). I would rather go to the mall in the morning for a cup. The room I stayed in was not as spacious as I like. Bathroom was large, with a tub and always clean towels. The bed was cleaned everyday from what I've experienced. The location was very good! Right next to the Ala Moana mall, and only a twenty minute walk from the beach. The price to stay here was a bit steep. I'd probably stay in the Waikiki tower if I ever decide to come back to this hotel. Four stars might be and overstatement, but I liked my stay.

SCAM ON BED SIZE

We just have a complain about the hotel. The package included a queen size bed in the room but we found that the bed was a full size one. It is also written in the sheet (we took pictures of it). We thought that it was a mistake and we asked the reception to give us a room with a queen size bed. The lady said that this one is considered in Ala Moana Hotel a queen size bed. She added that we can have a bigger bed but we have to pay more. I guess a bigger bed means a real queen size bed. The point of the reception was there was no negotiation, either we pay more or we stay with the full size bed. Our bed at home is a king size one so you can imagine how uncomfortable our vacation was sleeping on a full size bed for 7 nights. This is the first time that we experience this type of situation. We are not going back to Ala Moana Hotel and we would not recommend this package to anyone since there is a possibility that you do not get what you have paid and were offered using the excuse of definition by Hawaiian standards
