The first two rooms my ...

The first two rooms my wife and I were assigned at this hotel were unacceptable. They were run down with chemically faded carpets, chipped paint, broken thermostats, moldy bathrooms, etc. Only after persistence on our part were we assigned a newly renovated room in another wing, but with the disadvantage of being awakened early the next morning by construction noises in adjacent rooms that were being renovated. The common areas, lobby, restaurant, stairways, etc. were also run down well beyond acceptable standards. The pool was out of order and filled with green, algae-ridden, stagnant water.

Poor Naniloa!

The last time I stayed at Naniloa (10 years ago)it was a very nice hotel. Not now. I can understand having older carpets but not mold in the tile above the bathtub. The security latch chain was missing two screws and therefore did not provide any security. The air conditioner was noisy, you cannot open the windows and the air was stale. The windows were dirty (which is terrible because the view of Mauna Kea is fantastic). I suspect the bedsheets were not changed because there were creases on it and not tucked in correctly like someone slept on it already. I feel badly for the tourist that stay at this hotel, its not what Hawaii is about. I live in Honolulu, born and raised in Hawaii and its a shame for our visitors to stay at a place like this. What ever happened to maintenance and cleanliness? You cannot treat local people like this and stay in business for long.

reomodeling will definately help

the ice machine was broken, only had one, which was on 7th floor. our room was crawling with ants on night table, called front desk, who sent two young men up, they took lamp out of room saying it had an ant nest in it. there was a foul odor in the hallways, mold in the bathroom and on picture in room. spider webs were under the furniture. the help was very polite, i had no problem with them whatsoever. they are currently remodeling, which they definately need. i enjoyed the area of the hotel and being near the ocean. it is very close to the airport, which is also a plus. the city of hilo is very nice and has alot of history. i would like to see what the resort looks like after the remodel, for it truly is in a great location.

Needs a lot of help

The first room I was given had an A/C unit that was so loud that it was not possible to get a good nights sleep. I had to set the temp to 80 degrees to get some sleep. When I did wake at 4:30AM I saw roaches run across the night stand. I requested and received to different room, which was a significent improvement. The pool and grounds of this hotel have not been kept up and are in need of improvement. The overall appearance of this hotel is run-down.

Attend to the grounds and especailly pool area, both would be improved just by performing routine maintenance. Clean or replace carpeting. Paint the exterior.

Naniloa Volcanoes Resort

Hilo is an excellent base of operations to explore the Big Island. Unfortunately, my stay at Naniloa Resorts left much to be desired. The hotel is undergoing major renovations that leave it looking like it needs to be condemned. They were also working on the water system at the time of my visit that left my room with no running water or flushable toilets for over nine hours each day over the course of three days. The hotel only had a small "Please note that we will be working on the water system..." sign that in no way hinted at the inconvenience. I cannot believe Orbitz listed this place as one of their choices, because it only reflects badly on them as well. I will not use Orbitz again.

Less than two miles from the hotel is Cafe 100, home of the original Moco Loco and it only costs $1.39 plus tax. Awesome!

Forget this place

Very friendly staff - listens to your gripes but nothing done. No where in any advertisement did hotel mention that they were undergoing major renovations. No where did they mention that only hangers were being given for clothing and that there would be NO place to store clothing. Guests must live out of suitcases. Hotel had nice sign about buffet breakfast and an area set aside for it, but they never served it.

Naniloa Volcanoes Resort

Hotel was a mess everywhere, elevators did not work all the time. cabana was totally a mess with debris everywhere and unuseable. They vaccum the tile floors in the room and do not mop. when you get out of the shower your feet get black because of this. Pool was out of order ad second pool was full of weeds and slime.. garbage everywhere and they stored old refridgerators and stuff by side entrance, looked like a [*]. not satisfied at all...

Price is the only reason one would stay

We cancelled after viewing the area and the unkept parking and landscaping at the entrance. Old run down hotels next door. Not an appealing area.
