Delightful. Older, but charming.

We should have booked more than 2 nights! Beautiful tropical setting, spacious room, friendly staff, right on the bay! Perfect holiday for this old couple. Too bad the restaurant was closed---not that there weren't plenty of eateries nearby. The gardens near the hotel were a bonus, even in the rain.

OK for the price

This is the only hotel in the area with free wireless and complimentary breakfast. These features and the hotel's location helped us to make our decision. After being there I think that it is a good choice if your plan is to have a place to sleep which I think is the idea if you are staying in Hilo. The hotel is very old and could definitely use some remodeling (at least a change of the carpets). This change would definitely improve the user's experience. I have to say that the room and bathroom were clean and spacious, the room's AC worked wonderfully, and there was a mini fridge available. In summary, I feel good about my stay there (but I'm not sure that my standards are the same as other people's).

This hotel was great for an overnight place to stay. We've been here many times and will continue to book this hotel in the future. The staff at the front desk were friendly and the complementary breakfast is a perfect way to start your day.

Love this hotel and staff

This is an old hotel, no room service, but updated so it is very safe and the staff is very nice. Beautiful flowers all over the lobby. Like an old lady who was once young and beautiful but now is getting gray but still has her beauty and dignity.

The room is not clean. Fan in bathroom is very noisy. Window doesn't close tightly but it isn't that hot anyway. The beach view is beautiful. Wifi in room never works.

Family vacation

Would recommend Mon, May 18, 2015
Stayed two nights here. Room was clean, spacious. Hallway carpet could use some cleaning but everything else was fantastic! The continental breakfast was excellent. We had a partial view of the bay and also the Koi pond/gardens. Pool was great to have as well. We had the pool all to ourselves...and a pair of ducks lol

Comfortable and nice location, a short distance to the airport. Waterfront and watched local fisherman dive for fish. Would have loved to join them! Although rocky, the water appeared clear, clean and full of life.

Captain Obvious!

Would not recommend Wed, Nov 26, 2014
This hotel is run down to say the least. The room was dark, dingy and smelled. You know that commercial where the guy picks the bad hotel room and Captain Obvious comments? Well this was it. I did not remove my shoes at any point during our stay. We actually rented another hotel room in a different town for several days so as not to feel we were wasting our vacation. There we saw Uncle Billy's in Kona and it too was rundown but in a great location. (No, we didn't stay there). The staff were pleasant, but would not meet your gaze. They did give new towels daily and pathetically, that was luxurious by comparison. There was construction of a pond atrium area which was funny juxtaposed against the bucket in the lobby to catch the rain. The location was good. It was close to a Japanese garden and the ocean (no swimming beach). Hilo is rainy but has a more relaxed, community feel to it). My advice, this hotel may have been lovely once, but no money has gone into upkeep. Spend yours elsewhere!

Dining

Conscious Culture Cafe in Hilo has excellent vegetarian, vegan meals. I would highly recommend this restaurant!
