Three low-key condo properties make one cliff-top Princeville resort
Castle at Princeville is really three separate condominium properties, each with its own ambiance and amenities, within larger Princeville Resort. Common to all three are stunning views of Hanalei Bay or the famous fairways of Princeville, and spacious condominiums with full kitchens and private lanais. All of the properties sit atop the north-shore cliffs of Princeville. Paths lead to a crescent of beach below that is good for snorkeling in summer and surfing during winter months. The low-rise, walk-up buildings have two to four floors.Highlights
- Views of Hanalei Bay and Bali Ha'i (made famous in the movie "South Pacific")
- Three separate condominium properties to choose from
- Proximity to all that Princeville offers, including golf and easy access to Hanalei Town
Location
The Castle at Princeville property is on the cliff-laced north shore of Kauai, high above Hanalei Bay.Rooms
Furnishings and decor at Castle at Princeville create an ambiance that is island casual and contemporary -- nicely done, functional and comfortable with tropical touches that complement the cliff-top setting. Pali Ke Kua has one- and two-bedroom condos ranging from 1,080 to 1,360 square feet. Guests at Pu'u Poa stay in 1,700-square-foot two-bedroom oceanfront suites. Hale Moi Cottages is a community of two-story cottages with studios and one-bedroom suites, from 720 to 1,020 square feet.Features
Castle at Princeville guests can choose the condominium neighborhood that meets their vacation needs. Among the amenities at Pali Ke Kua are a pool and hot tub and a private path down the beach, along with a restaurant. Tennis players may opt for Pu'u Poa, which has tennis courts and a pool and is adjacent to the stellar golf courses at Princeville. Surrounded by lush foliage and views of waterfalls and mountains, Hale Moi Cottages will draw nature lovers. Amenities here include a barbecue and picnic area for socializing with family and friends. There is no pool at Hale Moi, but the path down to the beach is close by.Dining
At Castle at Princeville, only Pali Ke Kua has a restaurant on-site, open Friday to Wednesday for dinner. However, the neighboring St. Regis hotel and nearby Westin Princeville have restaurants, as does Princeville Shopping Center. And, of course, all units have full kitchens.Transportation

Holiday in Hawaii
Better values elsewhere
While the woman at the front desk who checked us in was very pleasant and accomodating, most everything else about our room was subpar. The unit was so close to the road that we had difficultly carrying on conversation in the room with the windows open. And you have to leave the windows open since there is no air conditioning. There is no pool, the one barbeque for the development was 7 blocks away, and there was no housekeeping during our 7-day stay. The room itself was "tired" and in need of some basic improvement. There were spiderwebs in most of the corners, cracked tiles in the kitchen, and half the lightbulbs were burned out. The lobby is open and manned only very limited hours, and 2 of the 3 times we went to ask about housekeeping there was no one there during the hours they were supposed to be open. We have stayed at other condos in the Princeville area and will go back to them on our next visit.

Across the street and down a few blocks (behind the tennis courts) is Hideaway beach, a lovely place to spend the day. Although it is a steep hill with broken rails down to the beach, you will find it worth the effort.

Nice way to save money
My husband and I stayed at these condos for 10 days. The rooms are clean and have all the cooking items needed. There is no air conditioning, but I think a lot of places on Kauai do not have air conditioning. Instead the rooms are equipped with several fans. The pool is just OK. The maid only came in once during our entire stay and just made the bed and vacuumed floors. If you plan on staying a while, bring shampoo and soap - they provided this in the room, but it wasn't enough to last the entire 10 days there. This was our first time in Kauai, the island is beautiful - especially the North Shore. Kauai is super expensive, so these condos were a good option to help save some money. There are tons of great beaches close by. There is a walking path down to a beach, but the sand is coarse and the beach itself is quite small. Better option is to get in the car and drive to some better beaches.

Shop at Wal-Mart or Costco in Lihue (very close to the airport) before driving to Princeville. The food prices are significantly better.

this is not a place to hang out in all day and have a wonderful view and great amenities right at the tips of your fingers, but that's what we wanted. We wanted a place we could crash that had nice bed (the bed was fantastic) that we could come back to after a long day of having fun on this amazing Island.

Pleasantly surprised
When we first started looking for plane reservations to this area for my daughters wedding on August 8th we were looking at $950 to $1000 per person.. My daughter saw the package we just got back from on Orbitz for about $1100 per person plane, condo and car// although on the car we did pay $150 more for an upgrade to fit all of us... over all everyone was well pleased. The Manager at Peou Ka Kau was exceptional.. She change our accomodations to best fit our group.. the view were excellent.

Castle Resorts Princeville--
This condo was rented through Castle Resorts--I never saw the company 'Marc Resorts'-- they're probably some sort of intermediary. First, the good-- this was an incredible setting-- looking out on the ocean, beautiful sunsets, snorkling beach a 5 min walk away. All set in Princeville, a wonderful location for those of us who love the north side of Kauai. Also, each morning we were visited a a group of Nene, the Hawaii state bird and an endangered species. These birds are totally unafraid of humans and walk right up to you. It'd have been easy to reach out and touch them. Clearly they're used to being fed. So, what's the problem with this condo... Our unit, #115, was run down, somewhat dirty, and the furniture was in pretty bad shape. I will say there were no bugs, and the appliances, while very dated, did work. Would we go back-- probably yes for the setting. At least our condo, if freshened up, would be a real winner.

Look for Pali Ke Kua not Castle at Princ
Other than the 2 cockroaches we found in the condo, it was clean and larger than we expected. I was surprised it didn't have air conditioning. We were looking for the Castle at Princeville but it is labeled Pali Ke Kua from the road. It had two levels, vaulted ceiling, fully furnished kitchen, large bedroom and closets. The view of the mountains is incredible and the grounds are kept clean. The walk to the mountain edge was within 1 minute. It is on a cliff so it isn't "sandy beach access".

Great views
Our stay was really great. We were a little shocked that there wasn't air conditioning. But it wasn't that bad. During this time of year. The general manager [...]was very nice. We requested a king bed and she was able to meet our needs. The views were awesome. It was great to sit on patio and watch the whales. The other thing that we were worried about is the fact that there was not Internet. If this is something that is important you might be able to find a unit with it. We really liked that side of the island. We did do a fishing trip which turned out to be great. Most of the boats will not let you keep the fish you catch. But we were able to take a little back to the condo and cook it there. It is really great having a fully stocked kitchen. Also having a washer and dryer is another great benefit. We were able to take less clothes and saved on paying for a second checked bag. I would say if we were to go back to Kauai we would definitely stay here.

Outstanding Value
We were looking for a relaxing vacation and that is what we got. These condos are clean, the grounds are manicured and the setting is gorgious. We had a mountain view condo which we thoroughly enjoyed. The beach, while not recommended for winter snorking, was perfect for exploring tidal pools, meditation and was a great vantage point for the specacular Bali Hai sunsets. Found great hiking trails nearby which were not over run with tourist. A great vacation!!!!
