charming, but small

First let me say, I am aware that it is an older, refurbished hotel and it definitely has historical charm. However, we had stayed at the Marshall House once before on a whim and were in a small room with a queen bed. So upon booking this vacation, we chose the premium queen room thinking it would be larger in size, but that was not the case. The definition of a 'premium' room means that you get a claw-foot tub/shower and the room is still quite small. The tub leaned to the right and the sink was cracked. Additionally, a night club has moved across the street, so on the weekend you will hear a lot of thumping from the music and possibly random motorcyclists at 4am revving their engine outside your window. Also, due to the age of the hotel, the floorboards above you will make noise if the occupants are moving around. On the plus side, the location is great being centralized to most activities in Savannah. Still questioning whether or not we will stay here again.

What to expect from an historic hotel

The Marshall House was certainly an eye opener as to what one should expect when staying in such an old building. The floors in the hallway were so warped that one could actually hear the other guests luggage wheels creaking as they tried to manuever from the elevator down the hallway to their room. the rooms were very cramped for 2 people and the bathroom equally challenging. the staff was very pleasant and checkin was smooth, but the service in the bar was dependent upon the conversation of the bartender and his girlfriend. he was very inattentive to our needs. location was good right on the main street and close to everything and transportation.
