Great hotel & location

This hotel turned out to be the best hotel we could have stayed at in Savannah. When we entered the hotel we felt like we had come home! The staff was friendly, helpful and very efficient. The room was larger than we expected. It was very clean and had everything we needed, mini fridge, microwave, iron, ironing board etc. The breakfast was plentiful and nicely laid out. The pool was great! And we were in the best location, only a few blocks from River Street, the shopping, restaurants and within walking distance to all the squares. All in all, a perfect place to stay in Savannah. This was the best trip ever....we'll be back!!!!

Make sure you go to Mrs. Wilkes boarding house for lunch but get there early as the line is long but well worth it. It's opened from 11 am till 2 pm so we got there around 10 am but people had lined up at 9:30 am. We still got into the second sitting and we weren't disappointed.

Warm unsafe room with uncourteous employees

The employees were not very courteous I believe because I booked threw a third party. They tried charging me parking. The room temperature was warm and could not be cooled down. The door lock had to be wiggled in order for it to fully lock. At check out they would not print out my final bill. They said I would have to get it from orbitz. CAN I GET A FINAL BILL FROM YOU GUYS EMAILED TO ME? THANK YOU!

Good value for historic district

I definitely enjoyed my stay at the Hampton Inn. However, Wi-Fi in the rooms would have been a nice amenity. I think it is bizarre that you have to walk through the pool area to enter the fitness room (which is WAY too small), especially in a downpour like the weekend I stayed. Overall, a good value that is within walking distance to a lot of the great attractions in Savannah, but I might spend a few extra dollars for a Doubletree of Hilton Garden Inn.

Great location, average stay

Benefits: great location! We could easily walk to the historic district and City Market, which were only 4-5 blocks away. The Savannah Visitor's Center and museum are only 2 blocks away. You can get the on and off trolley tours from there. They had a nice breakfast spread with all the typical continental breakfast items plus hot food (make your own waffles, eggs, bacon or sausage and hot potatoes). There was free internet in the rooms, although NOT free Wi-Fi. You had to use the ethernet cable that they provided. Drawbacks: our room had a strange odor. We thought it might go away so we didn't ask to be switched. However it did not go away the whole time. Parking is NOT free as I thought when I booked this property. It is less (I think $6 per day) than hotels actually in the historic district. I was surprised that on a holiday weekend they were doing a lot of maintenance around the property, such as major painting projects. Also, many things were out of order and not fixed by the time we left. One was the main door leading out onto MLK Blvd. Another was one of the waffle makers. Another was the ice machine and vending for the first floor. Overall not bad, but the place could use some work.

Entertainment tip: Short walk from hotel

On your first day, go take a trolley tour to get the lay of the land. Make sure you get one with on/off services throughout the day. Our tour company had us call them and they'd pick us up wherever we were at the time. You have to take the whole tour first before you can use the on/off services, but it's worth it!

Savannah stay

The staff was always courteous and helpful. Their job was clearly to make our stay comfortable and pleasant: the housekeeping staff who cleaned our room, the desk staff, the concierge and the kitchen staff. They changed our room immediately because of a noisy AC fan. The breakfasts were good and relatively healthy. The only criticism I could make was that the fitness room machines were not working well. The ability to recycle paper and plastic was lacking, but this seemed to be a citywide problem. I would recomend this hotel enthusiastically!

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

The tours of the city, by trolley and on foot, are worth taking. It is a fascinating city. Bring your walking shoes.
