Not too understanding
I had to cancel 2 full days (Wednesday canceled for Friday night) before my scheduled weeekend reservation due to my father being taken to the emergency room and hospitalized (he is 93). I had to travel 6 hours to travel to the hospital (as I am the health care surrogate) and knew that I would need to stay for a week or so, so I canceled my reservations immediately. The hotel staff said that there are no exceptions to the 72 hour (not even 48 hour) cancellation and kept $211 for a room that they most likely rented out anyhow. I could get them proof of the family emergency or I would even take a credit toward another date, or pay a fee, but staff had no understanding and there was no budging. That is alot of money and I think a little unfair. Rules are rules, and I am sure that they get alot of stories, but when someone can document a family emergency, even the airlines are compassionate. Just my comments. I am sure the lodge is lovely. I had to check 1-5 so that I could write this, but the ratings are not based on actual experience.

Step back in time!
This was a prelude to a visit with family. It was the perfect place to relax and get reaquainted. Although we didn't golf, the course was beautiful. The dining room was first class as was the menu and the staff. Don't miss the beach while you're there, and the porch becons you to sit and sip a mint julep while watching the sunset. We hated to leave; an accidental find that became a favorite travel memory.

Vacation Escape
I enjoyed Jekyll Island as an escape from the normal overly developed beach communities. It was as if you stepped back in time with all the modern amenities. In our room we had a seating area and a very comfortable bed. We rode bikes, took a tour, visited the Sea Turtle rescue center, walked on the beach, saw sunrises over the ocean and sunsets on the intercostal waterway. Also, since you are captured at the club, there many dining options.....and we took advantage of all of them. Our favorite was the Rah Bar eating fresh caught shrimp, oysters on the half shell and drinking cold beer. We look forward to our next visit.

Check-in
We arrived earlier than expected (noon), we went to check in and was advised our room wasn't ready. The front desk clerk took our cell # and said they would call when our room was ready. We went and had Brunch in the Ball Room. After brunch we went back to the front desk and was told our room still wasn't ready. We then went to the sea turtle exibit. Once again when we came back to the front desk our room stil wasn't ready. So we walked around the shops. At about 4pm we went back and our room was finally ready (still no call from the desk clerk that it was!)
