Met Expectations

The room was nice, and it was everything I have come to expect from the W. It's hard to say that it exceeded my expectations because I have stayed at the W many times, but I found it to be a pleasant experience as usual.

Unfortunate timing

I was in Atlanta for the Midtown Music Festival. The W is in walking distance of the event, which was great. Unfortunately during my stay a city water main broke and we were without water for a period of time, less than 24 hours. But didn't have warm water for longer than that. Otherwise, fun, funky atmosphere. Great area to sit and have drinks out front with water way running along it. I would stay here again.

Fake Plastic Trees

First impressions count right? Well, imagine the first impression I got when I opened the door to my room for the first time only to find a toilet filled with urine? Not such a good first impression. I mean, if that's dirty, what else is?? From there on out I looked at everything with a critical eye, and came to the conclusion that this hotel was a phony; a fake, if you will. The quality of construction was poor. They chose inferior materials that look all contemporary and modern, so you think it's high-end, but it's not. For example, one of the window shades in my room didn't open all the way. The others did, but the main panel didn't. So I called "Whatever Whenever" and they immediately sent someone up to repair them. (Before I go on: the customer service in the hotel IS outstanding. They're very professional, courteous and accommodating.) The gentleman they sent up tried his best for 20 minutes or so to fix the blinds, but he was trying to do so without the proper tools. He said he didn't want to have to leave and come back again. Which is precisely what he had to do. Once he came back with the right tool, he fixed the problem, and the blinds retracted all the way up towards the ceiling, as they're supposed to do. So he left. But then when I went to test them, it made me laugh that after all that, he never tested them to see how far back down they'd go, because when I did they stopped a good 2-3 feet off the floor. I was too annoyed to call "Whatever Whenever" again, so I left it alone. They provide a great desk in the room, equipped to plug in any number of electronic devices, like a computer. I found this useful because I needed to work while I was there, and have access to the internet. But the desk was worn and damaged, and the frosted glass panel that sits on top of it was the same. This reflects poor quality. And it even reflects more poorly on management for not having them replaced when they look like that. They sell Gummy Bears, Pringles and such, but they also sell CD's and W Hotel hats. When I looked at the hat I found a couple long black hairs inside. Someone had obviously tried it on, which is fine. But the cleaning crew should examine these kinds of things, because it makes you feel that the room is dirty. Like I said, if there's urine in the toilet, and hairs in hats, what else wasn't cleaned properly? The sheets? Yuk. Overall, I had a good experience with the hotel staff, and the Bliss spa downstairs. But the room felt dirty to me, and cheap, despite it's contemporary design. Three stars out of five.

Money-saving tip: In Hotel

If you call to complain about something in the room (like urine in the toilet, hint hint, they'll give you a Sip Card, which is basically a free drink at their bar downstairs. Complain about something else, and they'll give you another. :)

If you like to party...

If you are ready to party stay here. ha! If you are looking to relax and get a good nights sleep you may want to consider somewhere else. The walls seemed very thin as we could hear everything going on above, below, to the right, and left of us. When someone walked by it sounded like they were in our room. Other than that it was a great place! Staff was very nice and the room was great and very clean. Killer view.

out on the town

We were in town to enjoy a show so had chosen this hotel for it's proximity to the event. Had never used a W hotel before, but felt it was had a good reputation. Surprized by a few things. The signage at the adjacent self parking garage was very lacking in directing us on how to enter the hotel. Once entered the hotel, suprized at how long it took to check in at 3 in the afternoon. The staff were great, there were just not enough of them. The room was very nice and spacious but puzzled to find that regular king rooms have showers only, no tubs. This and no in room coffee maker were new experiences for us. (In their defense, there was a note that they would bring us a coffee maker on request). Just some things to be made aware of.
